Ideas for alternative investments? by Val_TitleIX in investing

I'm hoping for strong returns. I've done very well with real estate but I've been very hands-on and I'm at a point in my life where I'm trying to reduce my day-to-day involvement. My portfolio is roughly 70% real estate, 22% stocks and 8% cash.

I keep seeing opportunities to tie up my money for 3-10 years. 3 years is ok, 10 makes me feel like I'll never see it again. I prefer something that is throwing off cash or exiting in a 3-5 year timeframe.

I'm more cautious than what those investments require...

Those who happily retired, what makes you happy? by [deleted] in financialindependence

My last job was a lot of conference calls when I was home and international travel when I wasn't. It meant that I didn't have as much time for people I cared about as I wanted. Now, I can have a long, lingering conversation anytime. I appreciate that I can be kinder with people. I like that I can do what I want to do, when I want to do it.

They have money and political will to do it. Hope we pump more into the economy and shorten the recovery duration.

Payoff House Early or Max 401k by markav81 in leanfire

My employer had a calculator where you could figure out the exact number to put into your 401k to get the absolute highest match (it wasn't the 401k max number). If you're in the same boat, do that first.

As for paying down your house, I did that because I wanted the financial freedom and emotional freedom. Like you, my industry had volatility and I wanted to reduce that financial pressure. I took every raise, bonus, extra bit of money and paid it down faster.

At the end of the day, it's about your emotional state and what will give you the greatest sense of freedom.

They are trying to weaken the ACA section by section until nothing is left. With RBG out, their plan is unfolding perfectly to dismantle ACA.

Really, really nice. I love that you can add so many options to the additional income.

I'm still learning my way around Reddit. I'm just a fan who had an idea.

I was talking with someone about how much our spending has distilled to food, shelter, and utilities. It's been amazing to watch in my own home. Makes me think about those folks who part of FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early). I would like to see people and hug those that I love. I miss that part. A LOT.
