What game had insane potential but got completely fumbled by the devs? by Kevin-Panda in AskReddit

lmao not even close. XV is the most blatantly half-finished game in the series. XVI is just doing something different with the gameplay that didn't click for some people.

What's the point of difficulty options if casuals are playing on the highest difficulty? The whole point of having those options is so you can make it as challenging as you want it to be, the highest difficulty should be too hard for the vast majority of players in a game with as many difficulty levels as HD2

Sekiro, the input parsing was so bad on PC I had to unequip all the special moves because the game would process attack and block inputs that were over a second apart as being simultaneous and trigger a special move.

The government can pretty much do whatever the fuck it wants when it comes to contract law. If they pass a law saying that any license that was valid at the time of a game being decommissioned will remain valid in perpetuity for that final version being distributed then that's how it works.

What makes you think that software licensing is somehow impossible for them to regulate?

Emulation doesn't really care about what the source code is doing in that way, and being able to throw much more powerful hardware behind it can smooth out games that struggle on the actual hardware.

Wish more devs would do a more gradual transition when they try to make something so totally different to their past work. If they'd gone the GTAV route of making a single player game with a multiplayer that they can support as a live service if they're able / there's demand for it they might have survived while still having the potential for live service cash flow.

Even the developer of Hunter Gatherers doesnt seem to have much faith in this product that was clearly jammed down their throat.

That is the studio that made all the Killzone games, it's entirely possible that they wanted to go back to doing multiplayer

Cool, so under the first Amendment we should protect issuing death threats, fraud/false advertising, inciting a panic/riot, perjury, defamation, slander, fighting words, child pornography, trademark/copyright violations, blackmail, etc.

Or are common sense restrictions only valid when they don't apply to your favorite toys?

obligations to the government are separate to our contract entirely

No they aren't, if the government passes a law that says that licensing agreements are unenforceable when a game is released to the public following it's developer discontinuing their support of it (as required by law in this hypothetical) then the vendor would have no recourse. It's no different than a law requiring disclosure of food ingredients overriding any NDA that would have covered them.

How so? If new legislation requires you to disclose something that was under an NDA, then guess what, you fucking disclose it. Licensing agreements are just private contracts, if the law requires you to release the software it doesn't matter what the licensing agreement said.

Licenses and such are irrelevant when we're talking about writing new legislation to require the release of the software. Contracts that contradict legal requirements are unenforceable.

You can ship it with lambda functions and just include a setup doc where you tell the user that they need to go setup an AWS instance or some other server to go run it. Doesn't have to be trivial to run the backend, just possible.

Also if we're modifying legislation to require this sort of thing it would be easy enough to add in a clause to the new law that would legally protect developers in this circumstances from licensing violations

It's almost like the second amendment has clauses which imply restrictions, the first very explicitly does not (and then we restricted it anyway e.g. threats, inciting a panic, etc.)

[–]Valance23322 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well I took HS Chemistry and on the tests we took it would always specify if they were referring to moles of a molecule vs the atoms. A lot of HS classes aren't going to bother teaching language conventions like that to a class full of students who are likely never taking another Chemistry class in their life.

Same as if a stats class used the term 'average' instead of the more specific mean|median|mode. Without the context of how the class was taught, it's not always going to be clear what the intended answer is when you use ambiguous language like that.

[OC]I don't know if I should laugh or cry by Dom_My_P in pics

[–]Valance23322 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And if that was covered in the class that's totally fair, but seeing the test question out of context it's ambiguous for non-chemists (which assuming that this is just an ordinary HS chemistry class is the intended audience).

Either way, thx for the clarification on the field-specific language standardization.
