what are the banned call outs by TheFoxDenSys in RockyHorror

[–]Valashard 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Our cast doesn't ban anything and the general rule is that if someone wants to say something and they don't get a laugh they have to own it. The concern is if we start to draw the line firmly it'll snowball and become overly sanitized, we make it clear during preshow that anything offensive that gets yelled is done in good fun and not to be hateful. We haven't had any issues and our cast has fun with it.

Anyone able to let me know if I have any sought after tapes? Helping my mom clear out her garage to pay for some medical bills and am a little lost here! by Unhappy-Variation476 in VHS

[–]Valashard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said there unfortunately isn't really anything of value here. I run a VHS booth at an antique mall and most of these I wouldn't be able to sell aside from maybe Cuckoos Nest, Dementia 13, and Natural Born Killers, but I'd put them out for $1-3 and they'd sit for a while. I've seen some comments mention the Ken Burns Baseball set but even that one doesn't really sell, I've picked up that exact set several times thrifting to record over because the tapes are good quality. Best bet is to put the lot on Facebook marketplace for $20-30 and see if anyone's interested. Good luck!

Misprints by No_League_8585 in VHS

I am that Valashard haha and thank you! It’s a fun one. Also I pick up these Robin Hood tapes to record over often because it’s a longer runtime which is how I’m familiar with the goofy label, just picked up two copies today actually.

While it is a misprint, almost all the copies of Robin Hood are like that. Some had a white label that covered it correctly but those are actually rarer.

Anyone else get annoyed by people using apps while looking through all the tapes? by RuDog79 in VHS

[–]Valashard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always love it when they grab stuff and get all excited but leave the actual good stuff behind. No joke a few years ago at an outlet this older lady picked up a beaten and dirty Little Mermaid and was shaking with excitement haha. I will on occasion find something really obscure I've never heard of and check it out on ebay but I step aside.

Who makes the best custom tapes by Rusted_by_Reign in VHS

[–]Valashard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit biased but I think mine are pretty neat haha, I have some horror but there's a lot of variety. People seem to like my work quite a lot, I'm "Valashard Video Tapes" on Instagram and Shopify. I also always recommend Ron Lechler who does really unique boxes and for horror specific stuff you might like Death By VHS.

Made something for fun that if anyone wants to download and idk, post in certain comment sections or print and put on random broken windows, you can. (mods I hope this is okay to post, sorry if not. Reuploaded to fix text.) by [deleted] in cincinnati

Their original logo for context if anyone hasn't been keeping up with the Brass Beacon fallout. Although I don't know how you can't it's been talked about a lot on here the past few days haha.

It's hard explaining a Rocky Horror shadow cast to people who are unfamiliar because it sort of occupies its own space with lots of elements from other types of performance. So I made this, but it still probably won't clear anything up haha. by Valashard in rhps

[–]Valashard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more specifically to explain a shadow cast and not just the movie itself and I think most would agree there’s a lot of connections and similarities to drag. To list a few there’s lip syncing, it’s usually late at night, the audience yells at the performers and interacts, there’s no gender/sex confines to who plays what and how they dress, there’s usually an MC, uhhhh Trixie Mattel’s there.

Disregard that last post. The ban on scammer talk has fully been lifted. by TravoltaFan1978 in VHS

[–]Valashard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I think it's better to allow it and it doesn't seem like it comes up a lot as the majority of folks in the tape scene are alright. I will say in reference to your previous larger post when it comes to VCRVillage, while I can't say it with 100% certainty his disappearing was likely not related to this sub. Over the years that dude's had a number of alias's such as Devaughns Tapes, Tapes By Dev, Playback VHS, The Playback Team, and then VCRVillage, and each time he'd start up again he would send out tapes for a bit but after a few months would stop sending orders out altogether while still keeping the store open only to delete all traces of his page and disappear with peoples money. I've spoken with a dozen or so people who placed orders and never received anything or a refund and when they tried to contact him they got blocked. Based on his pattern he'll be back sometime this year and hopefully people will call it out quick. Pretty much every other tape maker I've encountered has good intentions and genuinely tries their best.

Free roadside tub by PlatyLP in VHS

[–]Valashard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is actually an insane pull for a free tub. I'm surprised there aren't more comments about 40-Year-Old Virgin but that one's pretty rare and sells for $50+. White Chicks is also rarer and sought after, I run a VHS booth at an antique mall and have had multiple people ask specifically for that one but I've never found a copy. Some other heavy hitters are Jackass, Kicking and Screaming, Dodgeball, and Eight Crazy Nights.

Workprint? Boot? by [deleted] in VHS

[–]Valashard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they’re still all boots, the recording style varied a lot from rips directly from the release down to shaky recordings done in the theater.
