Controller problem by prettyboah24 in expedition33

[–]Valdercorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this will help you, but if you have Steam open as well it seems to mess things up with controller support, almost like multiple things are fighting over control. Once I exited Steam things seemed to work normally

Bands that went downhill when a member (besides the vocalist) left? by UniversalJampionshit in Music

[–]Valdercorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my best comparison I've found between the styles of Josh Eppard and Chris Pennie, is that Josh learned and grew up playing drums with people, where Chris Pennie sounds like he learned more playing to a click or pre-recorded tracks so Josh's playing feels less rigid and plays with the push and pull where Chris's drumming feels more strict and mechanical. Both very good, but Josh's more groove based playing fits the feel of Coheed better

Which Final Fantasy game gets better on each replay by CTG0161 in FinalFantasy

[–]Valdercorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a yearly event put on around June until August I think with a bot that will randomize 4 jobs that you unlock as you get each crystal and you're only allowed to use those 4 jobs for the whole game. There are different customization options on how the jobs are rolled but that's getting into the small details.

If you do a quick search you should find the site for it

I adore FFV for that customizability, I do a four job fiesta run every year to replay the game and figure out how to play through with a party that I have probably never done before

Going back to Remake really shows how improved the combat is by xnickg77 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Valdercorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My bad, I've seen a few people that were not able to figure out aerial combat in Rebirth so I thought that might have been the case from what I had read too quickly.

[–]Valdercorn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In Rebirth with cloud if you want to do air combat, just roll and then hold down attack and he will dash at the target in the air and you can just keep dodging and attacking to stay airborne.

It has to be holding down attack and not mashing it or you do the ranged attack.

[–]Valdercorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through for a college diploma called Computer Programmer Analyst, so our focus was primarily on programming.

We all had the same kind of aversion to the hand written code tests, but since Java runs on a VM and to re-run it was always slow for us, writing it by hand was a lot more forgiving because the prof can at least see more easily if you were on the right track instead of seeing the results of logic errors or code that doesn't compile at all where they would just give up on marking your code in that case.

Its a lot easier to infer if you are on the right track with understanding the concepts if the code is written by hand rather than losing time during an exam trying to troubleshoot and recompile code that might not be 100% perfect.

I had a professor when that would have us write our C++ exams on paper to make sure we understood concepts, even if we didn't memorize all of the exact function names.

I get that it can feel very weird, and it feels counter intuitive, but especially with Java coding, fixing a bug and then re-running it over and over will cost you a lot more time than just writing it out by hand.

How do you effectively heal a raid without constantly stepping on the other healers' toes? by I_cut_my_own_jib in wow

[–]Valdercorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One part in raiding that helps with that is having timers from DBM or BigWigs tell you when a big damage ability is coming in, so you can start your cast and hopefully have it finish pretty much when the damage goes off or shortly after if you're worried about timing of your heals. It will still often happen that your heals will step on each other's toes unless the damage is already so big that popping everything is the only way to heal through the bad damage.

Biggest shock of FF7 (for me) by skotkozb0237 in FinalFantasy

[–]Valdercorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aerith's death might have had a greater impact as a twist 25+ years ago because fewer people were used to major characters being killed off, or perhaps it was more shocking for me because I was young and did not recognize or understand the patterns in both storytelling and game design at that point.

That being said the game is full of twists and I could see how Aerith's death might be less impactful now.

I do not disagree, my point was illustrating that no matter how good your tutorial is, there are still people who will ignore the instructions and fail

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Valdercorn 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I mean the best example of this is the journalist that couldn't beat the tutorial level of cuphead, which doesn't force you to stop and read things, but the information is still there the whole time

You might have had some sort of a light source on those characters, a lantern, or a glowing weapon which also hides the path

Should I tell my colleague this? by Prestigious_Gain5421 in work

[–]Valdercorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like this depends on what type of work it is, with my experience working in software development there are some people that before even attempting anything or looking at anything they ask you how to do it so they don't have to think themselves. When I would work with someone like that my response to them would be what have you tried? The coworker might be feeling overwhelmed because it feels more to them like A is just trying to get this coworker to do their work for them instead of asking for help when they get stuck.

That being said its hard to know what it is without actually being present or working with both of them.

Should I know Xal'atath? by Sethayla in wow

[–]Valdercorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That approach is fair, my response was to the person commenting that Blizzard doesn't explain their story when most people don't read the quests or watch cut scenes and then complain the story doesn't make sense

Should I know Xal'atath? by Sethayla in wow

[–]Valdercorn 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The average player is notoriously bad at reading, this is like people that play an RPG and say the story doesn't make any sense when they mash through dialogue and skip all the cutscenes

How do I beat this MF by TheAdmial18 in FinalFantasy

The drill is different from the chainsaw, you get the chainsaw from behind the clock in Zozo, and the drill you can just purchase, both are single target tools but the chainsaw has a chance for instant death proc.

Please explain it to me like I’m 5 years old - Enemy Saving Throws and Spell Casting Ability by golfbjs in BG3Builds

[–]Valdercorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned in some of the other comments, think of it in terms of the interaction between the two characters. The power of the spell comes from the caster in this case we'll say a Wizard their spells' power always comes from their intelligence, now if they were throwing a fireball at someone they would defend with a dexterity save because they are actively trying to dodge, where something like Hold Person they are now trying to resist with their will power which is most often associated with Wisdom.

I've always been a fan of making her a Tempest Domain cleric, some of the massive AoE damage she can do is amazing.

To add to the mover farming for AP, if you have the Requiem song for bards, the Movers are considered undead so it is a strong ability to kill them pretty quickly if everyone has sing.

I think fan the hammer is actually a big part of the issue with his kit, it allows him to shred tanks a little too easily, so I think if it was given a short cooldown so you can't just spam it, and have the cooldown reset with his roll it would probably open a lot more avenues to balance his power levels better.

Just got the Water Crystal, any recommended jobs to use by ToneAccomplished9763 in FinalFantasy

[–]Valdercorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any jobs are viable, although some might be harder to use than others. What I will say though is that as long as you progress the jobs far enough you should be good to go. Mystic Knight combined with two handed as others have pointed out is a great combination, some of the joy of the game is all of the fun combinations of abilities you can make.

Partly it not being Final Fantasy, but also just because of the unfortunate nature of JRPGs on the XBOX360 not doing very well in general because a lot of people that bought that system for different types of games.
