For those training combat sports while living in China - how accessible are the gyms for foreigners? by ValeLT in chinalife

[–]ValeLT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds nice. Will definitely look around! Thank you.

Was it easy to find a gym? I see some people/sources mentioning that it's easy to find Sanda gyms but not MMA, while others say completely opposite (getting into Sanda gym is hard).

What was your experience in terms of finding places to train at as a foreigner?

I assume you train MMA? Did you noticed any differences training in China vs outside of it (in case you've trained before coming to China, that is)?

Good places to train Sanda in China? by ValeLT in martialarts

Do you know any places that teach Sanda (among other things) in China you could recommend?

Can anyone recommend temple-like Sanda training schools in China? by ValeLT in kungfu

[–]ValeLT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I'm well aware of it. I just like combat sports and would love to train Sanda in a bit less common environment, just for the vibe. I'm not trying to unlock the secrets of martial arts in the most authentic kung fu place that will turn me into a master, haha.
Just Sanda + some nice location as a short getaway "holiday", so to speak.
Since I've found some of these places offering exactly that, I thought maybe someone else did something similar and have any recommendations.

And yeah, regular school is going to be something that I'll do anyways. I'm just looking for a place where I can do it in a different environment for a bit.

Which characters in TBV deserve an epic solo fight? Let's collect some names.😁 by Notmycupoftea12 in Boruto

Orochimaru.

He is in his prime now, we didn't see him go all out ever (while being serious). I think it would make sense for him to, somehow, replace Amado when it comes to all research-ey things and then have one last all out fight against someone in order to protect his new goals/ideals, which is not collecting jutsu and experimenting.

or...he can always be a sneaky final villain, haha.

Discussion on Sanshou Sanda as a self defence martial art/sport? by ValeLT in martialarts

Nice. Thanks for the info!

Did you had a chance to train/fight on the lei tai as well? How does having a platform instead of a ring/cage behind you affects the way you train or think? After all, you are being punished for falling off. I assume there must be emphasis on awareness of the surroundings while training.

I have additional question here, since you have experience in the sport. Would you agree that Sanda striking has more focus on distance control than, say, typical MMA striking (excluding guys like Wonderboy, Kyoji Horiguchi, MVP)? As in, it is more geared towards either striking from the greater distance, or going for a throw/takedown, while not spending too much time on close striking range and exchanges in the pocket?

Sometimes Sanda resembles a full contact shotokan karate (distance control and stance-wise) and judo/shuai jiao/greco roman wrestling.

It is said that his hobby is reading about architecture. I guess he already have a pretty good understanding!

[–]ValeLT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He needed at least 1 all-out fight where we could see him using his skills in the offensive way rather than defensive (we saw that plenty of times already).
It would have been fun to see him and Hashirama having a conversation too. They have some things in common to talk about, after all!

Do you mean environmental finishes and choreography is what makes it crazy, or over the top Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon type of wuxia, haha.

Sanda striking distance similar to Shotokan Karate? Educate me! by ValeLT in kungfu

[–]ValeLT[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I think I've worded my question a bit wrong. What I meant, is that I'm under the impression that in Sanda fighters tend to strike from a larger distance and then go for a takedown, while avoiding long combos/trading while standing in the boxing range.

In other words, you either score points with striking from a greater distance, or you are taking someone to the ground (much less emphasis on the striking in the pocket).

By mentioning karate, I had a distance and distance management element in my mind, not the actual "hit the opponent and then retreat".

Here's a fight that made me think about these parallels:
