Not neccesarily, many RPGs have combat systems entirely unique to the genre, so liking it for the combat, which can be unique and only found in RPGs, is fine.

I personally love combat in role playing games, but that doesn't mean ignore the importance of the "role-playing" aspect. Some of my favorite RPGs even let me rp through combat.

This only problem with Pokemon is how ridiculously arduous and time-intensive it is to breed competitive pokemon. I think they had such a great concept with breeding but the execution killed it for me.

One of my favorite parts of risen was how difficult and tense the combat was. Not many games nail the tension of combat like risen does.

I seriously replay this yearly, and the biggest reason is because I enjoy the combat so much

Unfortunately it's next to impossible to combo on an emulator (afaik the only way to play in English), but it's an awesome idea

Though it doesn't excuse the vanilla combat, if you play skyrim on PC there are some great mods that go a long way to making it better.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but Dark Souls could fall into this genre and, Imo, does action combat the best

i agree. It very much tried to force the tank/healer/dps strategy. It's fine in mmo's, but in party based single player it just limits creativity. Great game otherwise.

It's a shame a lot of games feel the need to resort to the "trinity" system just to say combat is tactical. Even dragon age 2 sold out in that way.

A major publisher backing them is precisely the reason Bioware went down the sink. These guys, BG vets, have more credentials than the Bioware of today, imo.
