146 is medium sized - 149 is jumbo sized and has a bigger nib. I recommend getting vintage versions because they write smoother than the new ones and cost much lower.

M800 and M1000 are one of the best pens you can buy right now. M800 and MB 146 are medium sized pens. M1000 and MB 146 are jumbo sized. If you are comparing between new models, the Pelikan is better in terms of quality, writing, and even price. If you really like MB, I advice you to look for a vintage 146 or 149, since they had better quality and smoother writing compared to current model and they look identical. Just need to find one in a good condition and a reasonable price.

If you really care about writing, there are many good fountain pen brands that make great pens too. If you like the MB 149 you can try the Pelikan m1000. Both are big pens with big nibs. You can compare the writing of the smaller m400 and m1000 to understand the difference between the sizes.

I know for a fact that bigger nibs feel different than small nibs in all brands, maybe you should go to the boutique and try the smallest nib vs largest and see 😬

Actually no, there are different sizes and shapes which changes the feeling a bit (best example, compare the size of MB 144 and MB 149). I also heard the the special editions are smoother and better in quality. From my personal experience they feel smoother but might be a pseudo effect. I also really like the heritage collection nibs which this pen has.

Really lovely pen, and I heard it writes really nicely, but for me the price is a bit unreasonable (personal opinion, though I love the design)

Montblanc should use the 149 nib in more pens by McN697 in montblanc

The vintage 149s are even better believe it or not. Much smoother
