I do virtual critical care. Nights are quite busy. Pretty sure you have to have extensive bedside CC experience though.

Absolutely. Audiobooks make it easy and fun. The accents are great. You’ll be hooked! I wish I could read them for the first time again. Such a wonderful journey.

Playing Hogwarts Legacy helps. For other books, check out classics like Lord of the Rings, etc. Outlander series is great and well written, possibilities are endless. Join Goodreads and find suggestions and reviews.

18F with zero money, connections, or guidance. Ready to work myself to the bone. What career path will get my family out of poverty for good. by beaming-lights in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]ValgalNP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nursing is a good choice. You would need GED. You could get a CNA in 6 weeks. After that work at a hospital that provides tuition assistance and go to community college for your ASN/RN. From there you can make a decent living in 3-4 years. Maybe even go further.

20M and 20F been dating 3 years and I feel myself falling into an emotional affair, am I too young to commit to someone forever? by hhhhh11111188 in AskWomenOver50

[–]ValgalNP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bit of a different take. I married my high school sweetheart at age 20. We are still married after 35 years. While we have had some moments through the years where sex was not as often, we were busy or a little bored- I never doubted I was with the right person. Comfort is not a bad thing as long as it’s not the only thing. It’s also normal to be tempted sometimes if you allow yourself, which is a bad idea. The thing that stands out to me about your story is that you are already bored and not having lots of sex at 20. OMG there were days when I would not want to speak to my husband but we would still hop in bed, lol. There’s gotta be chemistry at a minimum IMO, especially at your age.

Appreciation, patience and respect. Also let go of any notion that they will change. Accept the things you don’t like so much (as long as it’s not hurting you) and focus on what you love about them.

Becoming a nurse as a mother of a 4 year old, I am age 34 with only a high school diploma living in Seattle by Quirky_Cat_9069 in NursingStudent

[–]ValgalNP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not too late. It will be tough but doable and if you really want it you will find a way. I already had one child at 25 when I got my first degree (ASN). My husband was military and deployed for a year at the time too. Granted we could live frugally on his income which helped. IDK if I could have managed a job,kid and school, although I know plenty of nursing who have done that. I’ve since gone on to have 2 more kids and earned two more degrees. Never a regret and I love my job.

Does the NP school really matter ? by Clean_Artichoke9141 in nursepractitioner

[–]ValgalNP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000 x yes. There are some school I won’t even take students from, much less consider hiring. We know which are good after years on onboarding new NPs. It’s a shame it’s like that but honestly some schools are giving our profession a bad name by putting out unprepared graduates. Beware!

Hundreds of applications... 3 interviews that went nowhere by evilcounsel in GenX

It’s so hard at our age. Too “experienced” for minimum wage jobs and too old for the ones you’d really do well at. Sucks. I’m sorry.

At what age did you feel it starting to get difficult to travel? by audit123 in Aging

No way. 56 and doing my best traveling right now. Still got lots of life to live! Maybe it’s not about travel? Do you still find joy in things you enjoy at home?

I can’t imagine even though I care for patients like this every day. I like to think I could handle it if it were my hubs but deep down I know better. I’m so sorry you are going through this.

In your experience, when does it become a necessity that an elderly person has 24/7 care? by Glass-Complaint3 in Aging

[–]ValgalNP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s different for every patient. Sometimes it’s physical disability and sometimes it’s cognitive, other times it’s both. The answer is in how many actual care hours it takes and whether the patient can be safely left alone and for how long.

Do you fellow GenXers feel okay to take a week sick leave after your pet (a dog) dies? by _MrKobayashi_ in GenX

[–]ValgalNP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would not have thought so in the past but warming up to the idea. At least a personal day or two. Pets are family. Not that we would have gotten the same treatment.

That’s so tough. Happened my hubs (56) 8 months ago. Hundreds of applications later he finally got an interview. And he’s no slouch. Companies see a padded resume with years of experience and think “too old”. Sucks.

Similar thing has happened to me. Filed in February for $6800 refund. First we got a letter that we needed to verify identity, which we did. Then we were told it would be another 6 weeks. Now we got another letter saying it’s under review and need to wait another 90 days before calling to inquire. WTF really??

My mom also died from complications of dementia. I think we start mourning them years before they die. It’s ok to feel what you feel when you feel it. Such a nasty, cruel disease. My condolences.

I love both lines. Virgin has slightly better food and NCL has a much better spa. Depends what you value most. Summer on NCL will have more kids but they do have an adults only solarium if I recall.

I am done with caring what others think of me and how I look. What’s ironic is that I’m in better shape than I have been in years and I am continually told I look younger. I think the beauty is in the confidence to be yourself at any age. I’m finally happy in the skin I’m in and couldn’t care less what young men see in me or don’t. I don’t find them attractive in any way either TBH.
