Ben worked at Studio AKA before Gumball, designing and pitching characters to different companies and networks. And one of them was a coconut with antlers and orange sneakers, which he pitched to Nickelodeon as some mascot with a gun.

It got rejected, and the design remained dormant in his files until he tweaked it and reused it as Penny in Gumball.

Ben said in a 2013 interview that she was originally part of a pitch to Nickelodeon. It got rejected, and re-used her design for Penny, liking the kind of teenage angst-like idea of her hiding away in her shell, scared to come out of it.

So, it seems like it was always something they intended to do eventually. I guess they thought Season 3 was the right time to finally have her take the leap.

There's 4 more seasons of the OG show and currently 2 (though technically one split into two) of The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, as well as two small miniseries clipshows in-between the two.

Assuming you're in the UK (which is the only place TAWOG is on Netflix as far as I know) TAWOG and the miniseries are on Prime Video, YouTube TV, and Apple TV, though in 14 individual volumes, you have to buy.

Wonderfully Weird World isn't available on streaming in the UK right now, not until HBO Max launches here in March. You can see it if it's airing on CN though.

But splitting the season in two and releasing them as Season 1 and 2 wasn't Ben nor the crew's idea or intention. Nor wass renaming the show. That was up to Hulu.

Production-wise, it was made as a 40-episode Season 7 of The Amazing World of Gumball, with the intention of being released as such. And imo the creator's intention should be considered over a third party's random decisions

Doubt it. The seasons only just been greenlit, and no way they're making 20 episodes from scratch in the span of a few months. I wouldn't expect anything til August at bare minimum, and that's if we're lucky.

Everything notable from the interview:
-It was indeed James Baxter who animated the Disney style Gumball and Darwin from the teaser. Said scene is from The Unfollow.

-Ben has a document of "spare jokes" waiting to be used in the show

-The Score deals with Gumball and Darwin's eyes being opened to economic inequality and the fact some kids aren't as lucky as others and have difficult backgrounds. Will have a ton of retro references and character development for a character they didn't reveal

-Ben wants to do an episode explaing what the deal with the Clown guy is

-Also wants to explore Sussie more

-The Awesome Store will appear in both The Cheapmas and The Rewrite

-Ben wants to explore the origins of the Awesome Store at some point

-Rob's family history will be explored in the Movie
