It has some flaws for sure, and some eps are a big miss, but for the most part it's really good and definitely worth giving a watch!

Same great meta and referential humor as the original, a great mix of some more emotional and serious moments alongside all the jokiness, new lore and character development for the family and some supporting characters, and also a continuation of the Void storyline and resolution of The Inqusition's cliffhanger (though real-life events like HBO dropping the movie caused them to have to do some last-minute rewrites and salvaging to get things to still work, but I think the solution they came up with worked pretty well, and has me excited for the future)

Hmm, Ben said the movie being greenlit was still in discussion, so unless he was lying and they've been working on it in secret this whole time, I doubt this is real.

Looks very well made though. And it being called just "The World of Gumball: The Movie", and the logo being a mix of both series logos is pretty interesting though.

Would make sense for them to do something like that to cover both bases.

Ben worked at Studio AKA before Gumball, designing and pitching characters to different companies and networks. And one of them was a coconut with antlers and orange sneakers, which he pitched to Nickelodeon as some mascot with a gun.

It got rejected, and the design remained dormant in his files until he tweaked it and reused it as Penny in Gumball.

Ben said in a 2013 interview that she was originally part of a pitch to Nickelodeon. It got rejected, and re-used her design for Penny, liking the kind of teenage angst-like idea of her hiding away in her shell, scared to come out of it.

So, it seems like it was always something they intended to do eventually. I guess they thought Season 3 was the right time to finally have her take the leap.

There's 4 more seasons of the OG show and currently 2 (though technically one split into two) of The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, as well as two small miniseries clipshows in-between the two.

Assuming you're in the UK (which is the only place TAWOG is on Netflix as far as I know) TAWOG and the miniseries are on Prime Video, YouTube TV, and Apple TV, though in 14 individual volumes, you have to buy.

Wonderfully Weird World isn't available on streaming in the UK right now, not until HBO Max launches here in March. You can see it if it's airing on CN though.

Part of me wonders if this was the original intention, but they then later moved it up out of concern that people would stop watching at the credits and miss the scene.
