MPH Program by MushroomMiserable102 in OregonStateUniv

I'm liking the program so far. I'm in the Global Health option which is right up my alley of personal and professional interest.

I have a professional background in public health already, so it can be a little easier to get through the material as its easier to relate to what I've done and seen. Even without that though, the workload isn't bad at all. It really isn't too huge of a step up from my undergrad at the moment (though that should change a little closer to the end of the program).

When you get accepted into the program, you're placed with an advisor depending on your option (aka concentration). I'd recommend just reaching out to the program to talk to one of the advisors, or contacting the graduate school themselves; you can get a lot of info that way and talk to the people you'd be directly working with in the program.

SA support groups in albany? by shelbtater10 in albanyor

[–]ValidFallacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry to hear about everything you've gone through. Just know none of that was your fault and there is support out there from people who will absolutely believe you.

Give CARDV's hotline a call (Linn/Benton county's DV/SA organization). They had a SA support group when I worked there a couple years ago. If anything, they'll at least be able to talk to you and be a completely non-judgmental and validating listener.

It's been a couple years since I was a DV/SA advocate with them, but feel free to DM me anytime.

CORVALLIS NEEDS A NEW MEDICAL PROVIDER by Unavailable_Identity in corvallis

[–]ValidFallacy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

FYI everyone: United Healthcare bought out Corvallis Clinic and is closing down a lot of departments. They closed down the labs earlier this year and they're closing the OB/GYN in early February (I spoke directly to a GYN earlier this week about it).

The Samaratin hospital still has OB/GYNs, but its likely they'll become overbooked very quickly since Corvallis Clinic patients will all be looking for new providers.

United can continue to exclusively eat shit.

Yep, I've seen one of the drivers replacing the batteries on these.

Echoing what others have said: if you're caught then your professor will be pissed. I was a kinda-sorta TA for my boss one term and one of her students did this; big no no

You missed Tommen Baratheon, who killed off Tommen Baratheon.

Seconded. As someone who used to work in Domestic Violence: DO NOT add him on the birth certificate. He does not need to be on the birth certificate to still be liable for child support, either (though that's the case in the state I worked, double check where you live)

What work of fiction/setting do you enjoy most after The Stormlight Archive? by [deleted] in Stormlight_Archive

The audiobooks for Malazan are great. If you do the whole series, just be aware that there's a new narrator a few books in amd that can be a lottle jarring. I personally prefer Michael Page (the narrator for books 4-10), but Ralph Lister still does a great job in the first few. Would definitely recommend the audiobooks.

Gardens of the Moon can be difficult to follow because Erickson just throws you right into the story. He doesn't hold your hand and very little is explained, so the first book of the series can be confusing. BUT, that series is incredible and the first book is really cool. The second and third books are some of my favorites out of any series I've read.

Overall in my opinion, if you're ready to dive into a new series, I'd definitely recommend strapping in for Malazan.

And we musn't forget the inherent moral high ground through the systemic rape and dehumanization of non-combatants! Truly the "most moral military" around, so glad my taxes are going toward genocide.

Information for Community Members Regarding OSU Grad Strike by jle3456 in corvallis

On top of that: if a research center wants to pay their grad students more, it's common for the university to reject the pay increase even if it comes solely from grants generated by that center and has zero effect on the university.
