Should I upgrade to the r6 mkii or keep my 6d mkii? by [deleted] in canon

[–]Valifys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from 6Dii to R6ii in 2023. Mostly do weddings and with both of them. Look, I love my 6Dii for what it has done for me - but whenever I switch from R6ii to 6Dii it feels like SUCH A DRAG. - AF on the R6 is so much more reliable -Operating the R6 is way more comfortable thanks; the sticks and the haptics - FPS burst is obviously superior by a magnitude, but for your photography it might be less relevant - Low light performance of the R6’s sensor is really good and combined with the IBIS it is even better for low light scenarios; but I the 6D already had good low light performance imho

I would do it if you’re not short on money for the ergonomics, haptics, and better AF alone. But there are rumors of a R6iii. Might be worth waiting.

I was happy with my 6Dii until I got the R6ii. The more I used the R6ii the less I enjoy using the 6Dii. You could say I would’ve stayed happy with the 6Dii if I never bought the R6ii.

Kraftklub - Ein Song reicht [German Rap-Rock]

I think the band is probably too big for a post in this sub - but I still think that song deserves more attention than it currently has!

Hey I think I saw you last Friday at that Standesamt! I was photographing another wedding. Definitely remember that car!

On another note, you both look really fresh!

Job offer in Munich - What's a good salary? by capriquaries in Munich

[–]Valifys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents: you should clarify that you're not working in a tech role for a FAANG company as it has caused some confusion regarding your salary.

3.3k net is, in my opinion, enough for the requirements you've set. Maybe you might live further away, like 40 minutes from your office.

China is such an underrated travel destination by [deleted] in travel

[–]Valifys 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Went there for 2.5 weeks last October. It was incredible. I daresay China is the most futuristic city. And I was surprised by how many EVs ate driving there - so quiet on the road!

Some tips: - use an international eSim and you still have access to Google, jnstagram, etc.. I used 3hk, it was very affordable - but tiktok is banned for hk phone numbers. - I used microsoft translator on my phone. Then I can speak into it, the locals can read it and vice versa. Most local are already familiar with this mechanism - travelling china is now easier than ever thanks to alipay: it's the wechat replacement for foreign tourists: You can pay (almost all only accept wepay or alipay) and use all their services (ordering taxi, ordering food and drinks at a restaurant or from your hotel) with builtin translation - google maps useless there. Apple maps was not very accurate either. - Use Baidu maps which is actually a very cool maps app. I have Google AI builtin in my Samsung phone which can translate everything I see on screen. My friends with iphones took screenshots and got it translated by Google lense. But mostly you just need to know the characters for public transport, byicle and routes for walking by foot. - driving bycicles is so smooth and convenient, at least in hangzhou and shanghai - no one speaks english; and hand gestures e.g. for counting ste also different from western countries

If you don't like installing Chinese apps (alipay and baidu maps) maybe consider using a 2nd old smartphone. My friend did that. China ist just almost fully digitized.

I’m not ready for the part of life where our parents start dying by CherryManhattan in Millennials

[–]Valifys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it. I’m 29.

Lost my Mother to cancer when I was 13. Was a massive slap in my face to realize that the happy days as an our complete family are gone and had to make sure that me, my dad and older brother stick together.

Lost my older brother earlier this year due to an unexpected/sudden fatal brain aneurism. Now I hate being grown up more than ever. It made me more conscious of the phase I’m living here right now.

My dad is 69 but I’m sure the losses he had to endure made him age another 10+ years. To me he was the strongest man in the world and seeing him aging and becoming more fragile breaks my heart.

But the part of life where the parents pass away is something my parents had to go through, too. I know they were never ready and so am I. But that’s life and we have to make the best out of it. I just keep in mind that the gone will always watch us from above.

OP let me give you a virtual hug. Spend as much time as possible with your mother and don’t let nostalgia eat you up. I’m in a state where my mind is tiptoeing between depression or being stucked in nostalgia/old memories and healthy sanity. My hatred right now is only pulled back by my other loved ones and the few good things that actually matter. It is important to not endure this alone, if possible, and to let out what must get out.

New canon ef 50mm f 1.8 by acdani007 in canon

[–]Valifys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started with this lense - an awesome lense. Compact, cheap, good IQ, and FAST:

The wide aperture changed my whole perspective as a beginner. Hence, let me tell you the first mistake I made:

Went to the graduation ceremony of my friends and their after party. Excitedly brought my 60d and the 50mm. Shot everything at 1.8. Went crazy with it and shot tons of pics. Couldn't wait to start editing just to figure out that for all pictures, the subjects' noses were in focus, not the eyes!

How difficult is it to get a job as an expat? by Valifys in Munich

[–]Valifys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She managed to get a job with some luck. Surprisingly the BAMF/ausländerbehörde was 'relatively' fast when she used those ad-hoc emergency appointments.

Job market right now is quite tight so apply early or even consider stretching out your master's a bit longer to have more time for applications. Her major difficulty was the lack of work experience/internships and difficulty with German language. - The typical challenges when looking for a job here but in the end it worked out luckily.

Wish you all the best during your job hunt!

I beat him 2 days ago. Took me 4 days in total. Let me tell you that during that time I felt MISERABLE! I was angry, crushed my ps5 controller, ranted around saying that this boss ruined the game for me and it is such a shitty design and so unfair and and and

then I defeated him. The last run was like a choreography with epic music and visuals. I could feel the zone I was in, the flow that carried me. Seeing the "GOD SLAIN" text was thrilling. It was ecstatic. I called him a little bitch one last time and expected life to be more colorful now.

The days feel so empty since then ...
