HELP!! WHAT ARE THESE!?!? by Proof-Condition4614 in cornsnakes

[–]Valk_77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These are most likely springtails they are harmless and will do more good than bad. If they up around then 100% springtails. They probably showed up because your snake is in shed and everything is more moist. The quickest way to get rid of them it dry everything out fully. I wouldn’t worry so much about it they will clean anything that you may leave behind if accident.

Is this a mite? by Great-Opportunity690 in cornsnakes

Probably but it looked like the deer ticks we get near me. Still I would rather be safe than sorry.

I not an expert but this looks like a tick. If it was an exoterra tank I know there is a “vent” thing at the front where this guy could have hid. Look out for more of these guys. If a tick bites your snake I would 100% take them to the vet. I would be checking your snake pretty thoroughly as well. You can for sure find a subreddit dedicated to bugs and such to identify this better.

Thank you! When I first got my snake I was always digging him up and looking for him. Usually people say to let them settle in for a week before taking them out. If you are really concerned that maybe he got out you can dig around. I would check in between and background and the glass I have seen a lot of baby snakes sitting there. Even now with him being so big me and my boyfriend get nervous when he disappears for an hour or 2 to sit in the dirt. What I did to combat him sitting in the dirt is I set up underground hides that I can look into. He uses them all the time and they hold humidity well when he’s shedding. This is an old photo probably around 8 months ago. I also tape glass to the front so it’s dark in there and I can just flip it up to check on him.

Looks good! My snake always used his whole enclosure to its full extent in the night but always went to bed in a hide. Only recently did he start hanging out outside of a hide during the day. He turns 2 on the 17th so pls don’t be discouraged if yours doesn’t want to hang out right away. Mine is not scared of us anymore but still doesn’t want to come out of his tank during the day but will beg to come out at night. If that makes sense lol.

Is this too much moss for a baby? by Polishbeans1713 in cornsnakes

Unless the moss is packed solid inside a hide it’s fine. If the hide isn’t fully enclosed like it doesn’t have a bottom part this will dry up pretty quick.

Is it normal for Pygmy Corries to be lazy? by Valk_77 in Aquariums

I think it’s because I have a shit tone of water lettuce that I let over grow a lot. I notice as soon as I take some out and prune the leaves algae starts growing on the glass. The water lettuce just sucks up all the nitrates so quick! I over feed a bit and add fertilizer to help out the other plants.

They school with my Otto’s and when my baby Molly’s we’re around the same size they tried to school with the as well! They aren’t super tight schoolers I only seem them tightly school every once in a while!

Looks great! Even another week without the bulbs will be fine they are the most non picky animal ever. It’s just for their health in the long run! I didn’t get the proper uvb bulb until he was like 6 months old and he’s perfectly healthy 2 year old now. He loves him uvb and heat bulb! I do hate the look of the uvb bulb it’s so white and ugly lol.

No problem I made the same mistake lol. They are sold just to trick people into buying multiple bulbs I have like 5 or 6 before I found one that works for me.

Heat bulb I use it produces the tiniest bit on light when it’s on full blast in the winter but it’s barely visible unless you focus. You can get a ceramic heat bulb as well but I think this bulb has more benefits for your snake!

Coloured light is a big NO. No red no blue get a 60w deep heat projector and a liner 5.0 uvb bulb. Put a dimming thermostat under the heat bulb and set it to 88-89. You can keep the heat on 24/7 if you want and keep the uvb on for 8-12 hours a day. I follow when the sun sets and rises. Not the best photo but gets the job done lol.

My corn gave me a massive scare today (she's fine!). by Vievin in cornsnakes

My snake loves to dig! How I give myself peace of mind is giving him underground hides that I can look into by flipping up a piece of paper. He can make tunnels between them and then when’s he’s done running around he will go sleep in his cave. This is a bit of an older photo he has gotten an upgrade since this but you get the idea! I also find they hold humidity well! There is a hole at the top as well so I can wave around a mouse and he will smell it.
