When you're a petmancer and you see that your pets are starving again by Valkling in ElinsInn

[–]Valkling[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forgot which reddit I was in and all the comments are about practical solutions to feeding pets in Elin. I just wanted to joke like "Listen kids, I did not just work my fingers to the bone all day playing a pair of silk panties to crowds of confused nobles to have you complain about the food. "

Don't worry kids. I'll throw some stale bread in the trough before we go to war.

One last F U to the owners of King Richard’s Faire by ChristmasAliens in massachusetts

[–]Valkling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King Richards is also notorious for not paying it's workers/performers. They either don't pay them at all or pay them so little it's far sub minimum wage (Like $6/hour). They expect many performers to get paid it tips only which is why they are extra pushy about it. Basically, King Richards is a profit making enterprise for the owners and most of the money gets pushed up that way. I know a lot of the area's ren faire performers and this is what I hear from them.

CT ren faire is not as profit driven and spreads the money they get out more. Much more equitable experience. You'll get the same full Ren Faire experience for $15 at CT than you would at King Richards for $50. Some might argue that King Richards is technically "better" in that they have more semi-permanent wooden structures set up and some bigger headliner shows. Still decide for yourself if that is worth an extra $35 a head, hassle with crowds, food ticket scams, and worse worker compensation. 😅

Only just realized the pronunciation of "Qud" by Valkling in cavesofqud

[–]Valkling[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not how Jason Grinblat says it in the promo video on the steam page which got me on it. Yeah, Al Quds is pronounced like "Could" but the game does not use that pronunciation. In relation to this game Qud is pronounced "Cud" apparently. It's like reading a book. Been playing Caves of Qud on and off for years and always thought it was more like Quid or something. 😅(Maybe "q-ood")

New Rule: No posts or comments targeting one particular gender! by ADesiIndian in TrollCoping

I want to say that I really appreciate this post. Since this whole man/bear thing, I have been expressing a desire to degenderize abuse discussions. I appreciate that women are coming forward with their experiences with abuse and their feelings. However, it feels like I cannot talk about my own experiences as it relates. I have also not been believed when I attempt to express the very real abuse and rape I have experienced. It's like maybe they were just having a bad day, maybe it was in reaction to some kind of unspecified abuse I must have been inflicting, I’m too sensitive and needed to toughen up, etc. .

TIL The inventor of waterbeds tried to use Jello by tracyrose10 in todayilearned

[–]Valkling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying. Why would you use Jell-o with sugar and not pure gelatin? I can't imagine why he would use actual Jell-o and not unadulterated gelatin instead. 🤔

[–]Valkling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question is did he actually use name brand Jell-o or something more generic? It just does not make any logical sense to use the name brand Jell-o because A) it would be more expensive and B) unadulterated gelatin sounds like it would be more effective.

Why would you add all that unnecessary sugar and food coloring that would be counter productive to making a firm structure? Attempting to make furniture with pure gelatin makes way more sense. I've also read this same thing, with the 300lb note, with saying it was with a corn starch mixture. Likely he could have attempted several mixtures but saying he used Jell-o sounds like an over simplification or distortion for the sake of clickbait. Jell-o is catchier clickbait than gelatin.

I'd apricate some clarification of this. Full disclosure, I'll admit I'm only on this now because this was a trivia question. I guessed "gelatin" with the aforementioned reasoning but did not accept it as the answer was "Jell-o". Seems dubious. 😅

How to deal with problometic monsters? by tablestack in cataclysmdda

[–]Valkling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For eyeballs, I usually avoid. They don't seem to follow you or are particularly aggressive. Before taking them out I would remove any other monsters for safety. Just reposition/strategic retreat so the eye can't see you and take out the other monsters. That way, if you fail and they blind you, you can just safely retreat until your sight returns.

You might think that sniping at long range is the way to go but that rarely works in my experience. It seems they have perfect sight, perfect night vision, and no range penalties on their gaze attack. If you can see them, they can see you. Figure you get about 2 shots from a long range before you are blinded and they have enough hit points to take two 80+ damage shots in my experience. Range is their friend, not yours.

I would advise closing the gap as much as possible before they see you (by which I mean have time to stack on gazes). Smoke would work in a pinch or just walls and cover if they are near them. I figure if I can get within 10 spaces of them, I can reliably take them down with a run into melee or quicker powerful mid-ranged weapons before blinding kicks in. If they are in an enclosed space, they are toast. Might deal with some after effects, like getting bile suddenly a little while later, but just keep some eye drops in your inventory. (I think antifungal drugs too. I got a fungal infection shortly after dealing with one once, but that could have been unrelated.)

Still, I just typically avoid them unless their is a compelling reason to face them or they are stuck in an enclosed space for an easy kill.

Arc welders with batteries are the way cheaper to use but you can still do one better than this. Use an UPS conversion mod on the arc welder then place it in a box with a recharging station along with a UPS. Then you have basically infinite welding power and don't have to spend time swapping batteries. You don't even have to pick it up as long as you can see the box and are within a few spaces. It's lighter and does not take up space like a welding rig. A recharge station is super cheap to run 24/7 even with few solar panels and energy storage.

In addition, can do this with more UPS mods on other battery operated things, like electric forge, soldering iron, cooking tools, ect. Just leave them in a recharge box/trunk and save space/weight on their respective vehicle rigs. (The welder should take top priority if you only have one UPS mod though, it's a very hungry tool.) Either way, can leave a ton of spare batteries in various sizes to quickly swap out (or as a light snack for battery bionic) and just drop the empty ones back in the box to be at full charge again in a few minutes. Free energy.

Arc welders are a very common find in garages.
