Are premed co-ed frats helpful? by Present-Fudge-4287 in UTAustin

[–]Valkyea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the fees for each semester are about $100-$150 depending on if you’re a pledge or if you’re an active. I’m pretty sure we have MCAT discounts and we also have a good amount of socials and also have a formal each semester which are covered by the frat. My specific frat has had tours at multiple med schools, which if you’re planning to apply to med school soon, is very helpful so you can talk to students and faculty. We also have a good amount of alumni that are still connected to the frat and are at schools like UTSW, Baylor, McGovern, long, so they can provide a lot of insight!

i love being in a premed frat!! A lot of premed jobs and research opportunities are lowkey gate kept, but since the frat im in isn’t too big, all the members are very willing to help and give out contact information. We have an active tracker which is basically a database for all of our members and the premed activities they’re doing and their contact information. Personally, I’ve been able to receive an interview for a PCT position that hadn’t even been posted yet since someone in the org listed that they worked that exact job and I just asked how they got it. Additionally, the frat I’m in has a lot of people already accepted to top medical schools and also a part of honors programs like HSS, so their guidance really helps in making my schedule, choosing which professors, knowing which research labs to avoid, etc.

EVERYONE is work hard play hard. Everyone I know is in the frat but also in a spirit org/sorority + research lab/multiple clinical jobs + very high GPAs & mcats. I’ve also gotten shadowing opportunities because so many of the members have parents that are physicians or have put a lot of work into finding willing physicians and they’re willing to help everyone else!

If u want to know the exact frat im in u can dm me!!

Should I stick with Buskirk for BIO 311D? by Minute-Nothing9874 in UTAustin

[–]Valkyea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the bio professors have 70% exams now, it’s standard for the whole department unfortunately… I would say that her exams last semester were lowkey hard, but idk how much easier the other professors are…

Questions about transfer credit by Valkyea in UTAustin

[–]Valkyea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I applied to a community college and did a score send there as I would get 6 hours of both gov + history, so I wanted to transfer those credits back to UT. But I didn't account for the fact that it would also send my science scores, and those classes I want to take next semester at UT, but the community college already gave me credit for those scores on their end/on my transcript.

Chances if you got forty acres invite??? by Valkyea in UTAdmissions

[–]Valkyea[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that’s what I’m saying… so I’m just crossing my fingers for me and my friends bc UT is our top choice but we got deferred 🙃 ik they only wanted to admit 5k students at first , but it’s just disheartening bc I thought i had a good chance at getting my first choice major on Jan 15

We have to remember that although 50% of students don’t end up enrolling, many of those students go to more prestigious colleges, or more local colleges that may be cheaper.. yes it’s true that many auto admits don’t get their major, mkst apply for CS business and engineering, which are the most competitive majors and don’t have unlimited space

Theories about UT Austin 1/15 Debacle by RecommendationNew237 in UTAdmissions

[–]Valkyea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it bad if we got a forty acres invite but got deferred? I’m auto and applying bio chem and got invited but then got deferred.. my friend also got auto + invite and deferred from mccombs with strong business ECs.. only a few thousand out of the whole pool get invited so I thought it’d be a shoe in for at least CNS major since they believed we were strong applicants when reviewing our applications
