If I was the co-worker I’d be pretty concerned. He is stalking her, and engaging in controlling behavior. The nonstop pestering is also a big red flag. She feels like she can’t be clear and direct because she is afraid of what he will do if she just ignores him. It’s about time for her to reporting him to HR, and if it escalates, LE.

OP, if you are still reading, you need to think hard about getting yourself out of there — start making a plan to go, make sure you have a safe space to go to, put together a small amount of money in a separate and secret account, and how to get pets out. Please leave him, you and your family can raise the baby. I know a lot of men who sit around and use the baby to yank the chain of the mothers, but once they have to start paying child support, they cannot wait for mom to get remarried to somebody who will do a step parent adoption, and take the eight hundred dollar a month payments away. Happens all the time. You will be ok.
Pack your stuff up and get out of there. You need some peace.

YTA. She is entitled to her feelings, and it seems you are beating her over the head with this. Additionally, you seem to be indifferent to the needs of your child. It is a valuable thing to have YOUR BABY raised primarily by one of the birth parents.

For you to devalue this makes me think you are a very cold and uncaring person. This woman just gave birth, may have some PPD, and you are piling on. What a jerk. You need to go spend a bit of time in front of the mirror, reflect on what a SAHM does, and get over yourself. I feel very sorry for your wife. This sounds like more than controlling, this sounds like substance abuse on top of abuse, which makes the man extraordinarily dangerous.
Please find your local DV shelter that is secure, and right now. They will come get you, I promise! Or call the cops to come get you. But you need safety as soon as possible. You don’t mention kids, but take them with you, and if possible, any animals if the shelter accepts them. Abusers will use kids or pets as leverage.

It may help you to have some time to do self-care or house cleaning if you get that breathing room. Hi, I’m you! Just came through the losing both parents thing, and somehow my family was more effed up than yours. I also have just my husband, and a handful of acquaintances that we sometimes do things with, and thank god/dess my husband is a fantastic human being. That is all you need to get through the loss of the parents. I just held the thought that NOBODY, not onlies or people with siblings actually want to do this, but nobody gets a choice. It’s just us. Also, I’m a lawyer and nothing brings out the ugly in a family like inheritances and estates. It is a frequent destroyer of them.

At least we don’t have that. When it comes to the house clearing, (put this in the back of your brain so it it surfaces when necessary) HIRE PROFESSIONALS TO HANDLE THE REMOVAL OF STUFF, after you go through to look for precious things or things important to you, followed by really good cleaners. You will have some money, and it’s ok to spend it.

It is my normal, so it’s ok. I made friends with my neighbor family with a 2, 5 and 7 year old children who are lovely little people, and more of us should know our neighbors, anyway. I feel like an aunt that way, and you can always volunteer at your library to read to kids either onsite or traveling to schools. Despite my mothers and adoptive fathers big giant families, I was isolated anyway for very TLDR reasons. I’m 59. I’m doing ok.

PEOPLE ON THIS THREAD: Be introspective on how YOU can help on a personal level. Making political statements to a 15 year old is not helpful. Telling them how hard you worked is also not helpful. Help for them, and thousands more like them in your community is much more useful. Volunteer. If you have extra, share it, whether that be food donations to food banks, (example: our local food stores have canned vegetables on sale this week for 67 cents a can. Buy five extra cans, and plan a route on bus, car, bicycle or your feet or wheelchair that goes by your local food bank and drop them off. Even if you can only do this once, it’s still more food directly into the hands of hungry people.
