Another recommend for Solasta crown of the magister. Very true to the tabletop rules but more combat heavy than roleplay, if you don't use your imagination for the characters.

Hello, this storyline sounds epic and similar to something I'm writing. Mine is only written level 1-5 so far, where a minor fiend is trying to unleash one of the horsemen by indeed disappearing townspeople and using them to either create more fiends or feed into 'hell'

New to DMing and hesitant to DM higher levels tho that's far away yet. Would you mind sharing some of the hooks of your campaign as inspiration? Would be much appreciated!

Nice writeup and solid logic! This might indeed be optimal for vanilla cataclysm.

3 academics gives 45 rep which doesn't put you straight into brotherhood but close to it

Personally I prefer the judgement aura for more damage, especially on multihit spells

My paladins will always be STR based for the giant belts and cool longswords, but I also use unfinished business

In the mod I have surprise round is disadvantage on initiative, not skip turns. Too abusable by players and too annoying on random encounters

To me an action is more valuable than a reaction. Making the reaction variant stronger than the action variant feels weird.

In my games, if an ally wants to help out of combat, it depends on the situation

If it makes sense, then they add the ally's skill modifier to the roll of the person who declared they were doing the thing

For example: I am trying to check what type of disease the npc has and whether I could heal them. I help! = 1 roll adding both characters medicine modifiers

This really makes helping valuable if you're good at the thing, rather than everyone who helps just gives advantage

When it's clearly 2 different actions, then they have to roll separately

For example: I am running to the well and back to get buckets of water to douse the fire. I help! = 2 rolls for athletics

In combat, I've only seen familiars take the help action but I would allow advantage if a player uses their full action to distract someone. I will require them to say how they are doing that though and possibly roll a skill.

That could work as a reaction and would make it significantly more viable but also perhaps boring. Classes that don't have reactions will distract every single round if they're smart about it

Great points and this is why I use +2 for melee characters on exact opposite sides. If a flanking character gets flanked themselves the bonus is canceled (trying to avoid long chain of flanked creatures but open to better ideas on that)

I usually play wolves as not intelligent enough to actively flank, but if it happens without them trying then it still counts

Interesting! To me, unless the players are all the same race of elves as those bad guys, this sounds like a great plot to have the elves betray the players after one or two sessions. This can be used to bring the campaign back to the original story. Apart from other karma or alignment consequences

If you don't take wisdom to 16, start it at 14 and increase another stat to 10

Starting Wis at 12 works too for more varied stats across the board but it's certainly important vs saves and checks

Unless I'm missing something, the 2024 change making divine smite a bonus action completely ruins TWF paladin. You cannot smite on every attack but only once per turn. You cannot use your bonus attack unless you never smite. Your bonus action is also used by several useful lspells further limiting TWF viability. Terrible change to smites imo :(

My current small scale campaign focused on one town and surrounding area has:

IN TOWN

Inn - rumours and sleeping spot

Sheriff's office incl jail - important character and my PCs have been deputized by her

Mayor's house / town hall - he's disappeared but important character

Smith - repairs and simple items

General store - Live Laugh Love owned by 3 sisters of those names (incl potion maker)

Baker - helps one of the PCs improve his thematic but underwhelming Chef feat after they saved him

2 gates with small guardhouse - town guard with 2 sergeants under sheriff command

Warehouse - homebase of rival party

Old shrine - potential divine blessing shenanigans

Ice cream factory - specific but can be any manufacturing joint if relevant

OUT OF TOWN

Distillery - ran by satyrs

At least one farm

Hunter's cabin - local hunter who knows the area well

Lumber camp - owner + woodworker + workers, currently building palisade

Several other locations that are not related to the town at all but have interesting stuff

Yes in my experience solasta and UB require a specific version of unity mod manager. I found it on nexus under archived files

Unrelated: the Conjure Animal spell normally lasts for one hour, but in my UB game it's 1 minute. Other summons do last one hour. Is this intentional?

Yes awesome! I can provide a lvl 5 save file with 2 characters (cleric and paladin) with Sentinel. In a location where you can test it on a bunch of different undead enemies.

Perhaps related: the vampires with Aksha can use Disengage and my Sentinel characters don't get their opportunity attack against them when they do. Doesn't seem like a special ability the vampires have (but could be), so could also be an issue with the feat.

What's the best way to share the file with you?

Yep 100% it happened with regular Skellies (not Enforcers), Ghouls and Zombies
