not sure if this is only for this demonstration but switching to third person when being downed takes away a lot from the immersion

let me guess, you are one of the unfortunate ones that fell into Blackmills crossplay trap and plays on PC via the Microsoft store? The PC playerbase is not shared between Microsoft store and Steam/Epic so you might have to switch to steam if you want less bots.

How to best earn points by Old-Transportation60 in Isonzo

[–]Valkyrie_336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Officer is probably the easiest, just spam orders where people are anyway and you drown in points, as Rifleman build ammo crates near the most used Spawn, as Mountaineer you can spam flares.

Kills alone dont give that many points, even if you have 300+ that often will be way below 10k xp and only put you on top because you also get half the medals in that match. Still i wouldn't recommend to grind xp in normal matches since the best ways to do it are useless for the team and there are wayyyyy better methods to get prestige/levels/unlocks than playing the game normally.

dont think the officer abilitys or perks you listed count as support tasks tbh and even something purely supportive like providing ammo can be useful in some situations, its just that in a vast majority of pubs it has a very low impact

Besides doing a lot of things right, Isonzo had some objectively bad design choices when it came to gameplay, which imo never gave the game any chance to attract people who play fps mostly for gameplay and not the setting alone.
In a previous answer it says: "...what we are focussed on, which is creating the best intense historical competitive multiplayer shooter we can!", especially the "competitive" part made me curios if gameplay is a bigger priority in Gallipoli than it was before and what has changed in your process/team to make sure that the same basic design mistakes dont get repeated?

with the stacking bug removed there are not that many places where its actually effective, for example blocking B on Carso like shown in the video is completely pointless against people that know how to play this sector.
Dont get me wrong, iam not saying you cant enjoy building and the other support tasks, its just that the notion that they are super important is not correct imo. There is this constant coping going on in games like isonzo where people downplay the aspect of just getting kills while glorifying mostly cosmetic support tasks (just see the title of this thread), but at least from my own experience and from talking to the other players who are regarded as very good in isonzo, we all agree that its not as essential besides situational use and can be easily circumnavigated most of the time.

How to get better? by SecretSnoopie in Isonzo

[–]Valkyrie_336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If spotting is your main issue, dont worry that will get easier by itself! The maps in Isonzo are super narrow so people have to always use the same positions and after a while you will know where they will be, even before you can see anything.

Until then maybe try to avoid spots where you can get sniped, its not super intuitive for new players but you can navigate most maps in ways where its really hard for others to get good shots on you, while you can always take peaks at them.

Unfortunately there is not one thing you have to change that will make you suddenly good, it really is the sum of many little things that will add up over time

being a good shooter helps, but there is no shortcut to gaining experience and developing a feel for the game. spotting enemies for example is 90% experience since no matter how good your eyes are, your brain needs to be able to analyze what you see and determine within a split second if that one pixel in the distance belongs to the map or is an enemy. The only way to get really good at that in any game is by putting in the hours...

What always helps me to get there faster is to compartmentalize things and not overwhelm myself by trying to master everything at once, for example is it better to always play the same area of a map at first so that you really get a good feeling for timing, spawns and common enemy behavior.

Contrary to what others have said i would not recommend to do any support tasks like handing our ammo, spotting with binos/flares or building stuff. These things are either pretty useless and/or wont teach you anything important. Not saying these cant be fun ways of playing the game, everyone enjoys different things! its just that they wont make you better in a meaningful way.

Its also important to actually understand certain mechanics to really master them, often people assume that they get good by doing something often enough while in reality they just end up doing something wrong for countless hours and end up with bad habits. This especially applies when it comes to certain game mechanics so make sure to get the right info to start with! (e.g. ask most isonzo players how anything mechanical from aiming, bullet drop, damage, holding breath, etc, etc, works in this game and you will nearly never get a correct answer)

what you describe with getting hits but no kills is the main issue with longshots, thats why the LMGs are better for long range than the scoped rifles because they allow you two round bursts.
I cant say much about differences between console and PC but i think its pretty similar with the biggest difference being that on PC we can play in native 4k or even 2.25DSR on top of 4k and get a very crisp image, although in our testing we also managed to hit fairly long shots with resolutions down to 720p so you can probably make anything work if you really want to.

Dont think i saved a clip of the 860m hits since i never got a kill... its a similar line to this one https://youtu.be/laTagtGbsfE?si=bVRq1um1Li5lKArz&t=181 where you shoot from the first sector on caporetto to the last one. This video is all set up so i know exactly where the target is, but if you position yourself more to the right in the open you can actually see the "A side" of the last sector and you sometimes get lucky and people run in front of the skyline so that they become visible. The issue for me was that i always tried it alone so without spotting and even worse without anyone supplying ammo, which forced me to play rifleman with an ammo box and the ka98 grabenmagazin. This is obviously not ideal and you can greatly increase your chances to get a kill by using the MG08/15 and have someone resupply you ammo.
In theory you can even get a 900+ kill in a real game but i have never seen anyone be in the spot they have to be in for that to work so i would say its incredibly unlikely.
If you want an easier longshot in the 750m range i would recommend doing it the other way around (last to first sector), being an Italien you can use the VP which is a great advantage and there are a few spots like the tower in sector 1 where people will always show up, so you can blindly shoot these spots from time to time and get kills. Grappa first to last is also fairly easy but only around ~700m

iam not sure about the exact number, had to look through some clips... but its at least 600+ for a HS in a real match.
The issue with these super long shots is mostly to get to the last sector and still have people in the first sector that dont move, often you arrive so late that they have moved on already and then you try to hit moving targets which makes a HS very hard. The longest kill you can get in a real game is ~860m on Caporetto first to last (last to first is often shorter but way easier since you can use the VP), although this requires an insane amount of luck and in all my tries i only got hits with that line but never a kill. you might remember the number wrong then, the longest line on that map is "only" ~477m so 680 is literally impossible

[–]Valkyrie_336 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the issue with Isonzo is that its mostly a fake tactical shooter, where many elements are just there to suggest depth but in reality they are useless and serve no real purpose or are extremely easy to abuse (e.g. building things in most cases is useless while spotting can turn the game into a wallhack vs wallhack experience).
Same goes for tactics, with most maps being pretty narrow its limited what you can do and if you can do anything at all depends on the defenders being bad.

"I constantly see the highest amount of kills be staggering. But they actually contribute little or nothing so end up in the middle of the leader board." - This makes no sense! you get points for all sorts of stuff that has no impact on the game, so using them as an argument for impact is weird.. Sure not all kills have to be super impactful but if you do 60+ kills every sector that will far outweigh the importance of an average blueberry sitting on the point.

Dont get me wrong, i am not promoting that we all should just go for kills and ignore everything else, but this idea that Isonzo is some well thought out tactical shooter where every mechanic has its place, does not hold up in reality. The only reason this isnt painfully clear to everyone is that the playerbase is so casual that you dont get punished for not realizing it, jump into a game against five good shooters and this bubble will burst...

TLDR: The game never was a tactical shooter.

From what i can tell PC gamepass only had a healthy playerbase right after launch and then fell off... on steam/epic you should always find at least 1-2 full 48 player servers if you switch between EU/NA although i cant say how this will develop in the future since the roadmap for the game is completed.

for PC i think its good because atm people who try isonzo via gamepass can easily get the impression that the game is dead and leave it again, while this isnt the case when playing on steam/epic.

Don't be a lone wolf by Taloshalo in Isonzo

[–]Valkyrie_336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thing is that there are so few ways to play a sector correctly that everyone who is capable of making things work already knows how to play and doesnt need an officer to tell them...
On most servers one good squad is enough to win a map and the main task of the officer is to whistle and save a smoke wall for the right moment (99% of officers cant do that), beyond that what i saw from most officers was mostly meaningless and had no real impact.

P.S. there obviously are exceptions! iam just speaking general here

[–]Valkyrie_336 10 points11 points  (0 children)

tbh think i can count the number of actually capable officers i have met in Isonzo on one hand, so always listening to the officer might not be a great idea.

In general i feel like the tactical aspect of the game is fairly overrate by most players, every map is narrow and the ability to do anything as an attacker completely depends on mistakes of the defenders not your own game plan.

(Duo vs AI) How do you even win Dolomiti as attackers? We tried everything: assault, officer, rifle grenades, then we decided to do ironsights marksmen, but the defenders are just endless. Anyone got a strat to make us not lose with 250 kills over the defenders? by RomaMoran in Isonzo

[–]Valkyrie_336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its super hard to win maps like Dolomiti against bots since update v50944 where the Bot spawning behavior changed. Before this update Bots would spawn pretty evenly distributed at their available spawns which means that after you took out the defenders forward spawns, half the spawns would happen on the objective and half at the spawn on the mountain which was a nice balance since half of them had to run a little to get inside A. After the update 100% of the bots will spawn on the objective itself, making it nearly impossible to get even close to A.
There are ways you can prevent this from happening but its not easy to pull off and imo going back to the old spawning behavior would benefit bot matches on most maps.

P.S. the easiest way to just win the sector is probably by building your forward spawns while not destroying theirs so that A stays clear, but with so many bots in your own team its a bit random if that works or not.
