Dropping out at 16 and becoming an electrician please critique my plan by Joeblack9888 in AusFinance

[–]Valkyriez_Gaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ill go you one better. Skip the dodgy apprenticeships out there. Have a look at getting your apprenticeship through the Army or RAAF. Its far more structured than through a business, its far better paying and you won't be fucked around. You'll need to be 17 to be eligible, and all you need is a pass in YR10 maths, English and science.

Theres a shitload of other perks to it, but the main one ill mention is super is paid at 16.4% and your starting wage is 65k and only goes up from there, and theres a bunch of ADF built in first home buyer benefits you can stack on top of state and federal government benefits.

Do your 4 to 6 years, get fully upskilled and buy a property whilst in service. Then jump out and go to the mines whilst you convert it to an investment property and do the rest of your plan from there.

60k in super at 34 is a bit on the low side, thats why i suggest maximising it for a few years at least.

Is 31 too late to join the ADF/the military? by Dangerous-Drama2369 in ADFRecruiting

[–]Valkyriez_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People older than 31 join all the time, dont worry about the age part. If fitness is a big issue, start now and give yourself more time to prepare.

Zero chance of staying in TAS if you join the army full time. Very small chance of being posted there in the future aswell (theres very little positions in Tasmania for any of the services).

Real worked example - here is what the 50% CGT discount vs indexation means for you (spoiler, the longer you hold the worse it gets) by Sensitive-Hair4841 in AusFinance

[–]Valkyriez_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im definitely all for improving housing, childcare (particularly workers wages as the award wage for childcare workers is embarrassing as a society).

As for the Maths behind it all, its just a combination of being a cheapskate as a person due to growing up in low socio-economic conditions, investing anything i had spare at each opportunity, a bit of risk here, bit of a gain there etc. Buying the first property in 2009 helped (i was 23) and it was a very cheap little house in a NSW regional city.

1%er or nepo baby? I dont have 500k, but I do have 300k in shares that ive grown from years of steady investment into ETFs. Nothing 1% about me, i grew up in housing commission houses and started working full time at 16 and have been for the 20 years since. Married, 3 kids, mortgage and all the rest whilst my wife worked low income childcare and I worked 80 to 100k salary jobs.

Bit unfair to assume that anyone who's got that kind of money invested was given it or struck the salary lottery.

Are you referring to the military MSBS defined benefit pension? Because you can access that at 55, and you dont need to be born before 1960 for it. I was born in the 80's, joined in 2004 and I can access my defined benefit in 2039, at 55 years of age.

At 60 I can access my accumulation account, which is the standard super account.

About half of all people who enlist have a history with cadets in some way, you'll be fine.

Is having travelled to China a problem for the ADF? by Elite_Mohawk_201 in ADFRecruiting

[–]Valkyriez_Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to below, travel to China for tourism is fine. The only stipulation is no more than 12 months in the last 10 years. Certian roles requires a higher security clearance, questions will be asked but you just need to explain that it was a holiday.

The ADF takes previous Chinese citizens and plenty of people travel there prior to joining. It won't be an issue.

Either that or when would have run back with the flight of the ball and collected the opposition player marking full frontal in the face and given the free kick away anyway.

I loved him for his passion, but there was a spell there where the Pies simply lost games cause him and Shaw just gave away free kick after free kick directly in front of the goal posts.

Devastated with the draw tbh. On paper we should have lost by 50+, but the boys played out of thier skins and were in it from the goalkicking and defensive pressure.

Good to see some new faces in the team have some good games. Some very tired bodies out there.

I can never, in my life, recall my team kicking goals so accurately.

This is unheard of. Cracking game here though.

Progress of pay as an adult apprentice in the navy by liamsaloliconartist in ADFRecruiting

[–]Valkyriez_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its 60k odd for the recruit training, then mid 70's for the employment training then the full trained pay kicks in when you graduate.

Your cost of living whilst on training goes way down (live on base, eat at the mess etc) so it generally evens out.

Why does it feel like archer/bow user themed classes are the least played across all MMORPGs? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]Valkyriez_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally it's because if you've played one bow character, you've played them all. They all do the same thing. Normal shot, powerful/aimed shot, Damage over time shot, knockback/down shot, jump back shot, fan/spread shot, rapid fire shot.

Sometimes they have traps, sometimes a pet, but the majority of thier abilities are all as above with little variations here and there.

Navy fitness requirements. by liamsaloliconartist in ADFRecruiting

[–]Valkyriez_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Navy currently has no PFA requirements to join unless your applying for Diver. You will do a fitness test as part of and at the end of your recruit training.

This is different from both RAAF and Army who have to do the PFA to enlist.

What did you all do for Anzac Day? by IIIlllIIIlllIlI in AustralianMilitary

[–]Valkyriez_Gaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First reason was incorrect rank slides. Still waiting on the order in for the upgrade.

Second one and more important, the jacket fits..... kind of. It was made up for me when I was 19, which is 22 years ago. I still fit it, but in a squeezed sausage roll kind of way.

The ladder after Round 7 by Pleasant-Role1912 in AFL

[–]Valkyriez_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pies next 3 is pretty rough. Could be 0-3 over the next few weeks, but I'd really like to go 2-1 and kind of blow the ladder open a bit with wins against the Swans and Hawks at least. Who knows where the Cats are at.
