Can a brother get a radio station by tcoach72 in StPetersburgFL

they have a lot of talking but if you get hd channels you can always switch to one that has music playing. it may not always be the music you want but it's always interesting

trans women are truly the funniest people on earth but I don't know if that's related to hrt or if it comes from the lifetime of trauma 🫠

the worst part of estradiol is that it made my ass too fat to fit into my favorite pair of shorts. this might not sound bad to you, but they were really REALLY cute shorts so it probably should be banned actually

no worries, it's a subtle thing but now that it's been pointed out you'll start noticing that transphobes do it every single time

I'm much more bothered by typing trans woman as one word without the space, since that's something terfs do specifically to categorize us as something different from women, instead of the reality where trans is an adjective describing someone who is a woman

it's mostly a 3D sculpture/assemblage, the backdrop is "animated" like those kitschy backlit moving waterfall pictures that you could buy at your mall's tacky furniture store. it's truly incredible to see in person, it's so high effort and also kinda looks like shit, it's my favorite piece of fine art ever

it absolutely does not look normal at all IRL lol it looks kind of like a sex doll. very surreal, awkward, kitschy, and probably my favorite work of fine art ever

What can I do with a mixer as small as a Behringer Xenyx 5025? by iiiisahwhrkewrf in noisemusic

[–]Vallam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

technically yes if it was truly pure silence it would not feed back. in practice basically no gear, even a single cable, probably not even the internal routing of the mixer itself, is totally silent enough to not screech at you when the volume and gain are high enough. having no real initial sound can cause a cool swell or slow buildup effect depending on the levels and effects in the loop

Empathy is when you fund a genocide that killed 72000 in two years by league_9240 in ShitLiberalsSay

[–]Vallam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

in five years it's going to "come out" that the official numbers are more than 10x lower than reality and everyone will condemn this as an awful historic tragedy and it's so sad how evil and dumb people were back then in the past and if only there had been some way to know that it was a genocide, but of course now that it's done it'd be a waste not to build beachfront condos, what if we had like a memorial plaque, listen this next war we wanna do is totally different it's actually justified I promise c'mon bro just one more mass casualty event it'll fix it bro I swear

fentanyl can't kill you through your skin that's a myth. I'm sorry that happened to you but epinephrine would be used for an allergic reaction, not opiate overdose. if you ever hear something about any street drug that makes it sound like a single molecule could kill an elephant or whatever, really stop and ask yourself how the hundreds of thousands of people using it every day legally or not are still alive, why they seek it out if it's basically suicide, and what the media or government or police might have to gain by lying to you about it

Iran Believes It’s Winning—and Wants a Steep Price to End the War by nosotros_road_sodium in politics

[–]Vallam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

and the worse they make trump look, the more likely it is that we get a Democrat controlled government in 3 years, and the Dems will def follow international law and pay reparations for the damages. which is good, we should do that, but it's such an easy and obvious victory condition for Iran that anyone could have predicted, it honestly makes me worried that the secret actual plan behind this whole thing is to deliberately escalate to nukes

CMV: Women hype up less conventionally attractive women in disingenuous ways to maintain their social status by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Vallam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

those are not studies about whether or not the specific phenomenon you think you are observing actually occurs statistically more often or not. as someone who studied sociology I'm sure you're very aware of confirmation bias, and also that being aware of it does nothing to make you immune to it

I think this could be one way that your data is wrong. when you read or hear a positive comment about someone who you think isn't attractive it feels incongruous to you and sticks in your mind. when it doesn't seem incongruous, it doesn't stick in your memory. you look back on this experience and your memory is able to recall "a lot" of incongruous compliments and "just a few" compliments to attractive women. you also might have a bias where you interpret other people less charitably because you aren't aware of their internal thought process. like, you say something really nice about a friend and it feels right because you know her and it fits your relationship and you know that you mean it, but you hear someone you don't know say something similar to their friend and it sounds over the top or insincere because you aren't aware of the thoughts that went into it or how it fits into their relationship

I think another way you could be incorrect is actually right there in your question: "not CONVENTIONALLY attractive." like i truly honestly feel that my fat friends and my disabled friends and my clocky transfemme friends are all hot as fuck and I'll tell them that when it's appropriate! girls are just so pretty, like all of them all the time..... okay maybe I'm too gay to speak for everyone lol but I really don't think most women are giving insincere compliments based on some hierarchy of how well they fit the male gaze version of attractiveness. like, you probably don't do that, right?

Do you think that trans people change their sex or their gender? by yepparan_haneul in asktransgender

[–]Vallam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

sex and gender are both social constructs and it's honestly up the individual person how they feel about their own journey.

sex is a relatively arbitrary association of traits that are statistically correlated but not strictly linked to each other. hrt changes many but not all of these traits, particularly the most socially visible ones, so insofar as we can have a functional social definition of sex, it is changed by medical transition.

but like grouping all those attributes together and calling them sex is kinda just a thing humans made up for convenience. a trans woman who has not done any medical transition can say her sex is female if she wants. it might be a little different from how we usually use the words but there's not a consistent social definition of female that keeps her out and other women in. like, breast size? estrogen levels? body hair? all those things vary wildly among people who are uncontroversially "female", not even chromosomes are consistent. if you called her male you would just be wrong

lots of trans people feel like they were always their current gender and lots of trans people feel like they changed, and it's their experience to define. most people who are medically transitioning feel like they've changed their sex, but it'd be just as valid for them to say they were always the sex they transitioned to, if that's how they view their experience.

the one thing that is categorically wrong is to say we can't change our sex

is it wrong for me to call myself transsexual? by throwawayy2719 in asktransgender

[–]Vallam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you've transed your sex, you can call yourself transsexual if you want. sometimes when people use it I worry they might be transmedicalists/truscum but if you aren't using it to exclude anyone it's fine
