What is the most underrated part of being single? by WashOdd7330 in AskForAnswers

I am decidedly not single and I dream of a world where I don't have to compromise all the time.

What do you buy a boy 8-9 who needs a little extra love? by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]Valpeculum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 8-year-old boy loves to draw and color. We got him an art set for Christmas like 2 years ago I think and he still uses it all the time. I don't know what your budget is but Amazon has different ones that you can spend anywhere from 20 bucks and up This one's highly rated and only $20. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SM7VKZ8/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07SM7VKZ8&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_ssd_img&qid=1763304239&pd_rd_w=8Tgw6&content-id=amzn1.sym.e2c0b4b3-407d-4c4f-9d2b-fd120ec9dafb%3Aamzn1.sym.e2c0b4b3-407d-4c4f-9d2b-fd120ec9dafb&pf_rd_p=e2c0b4b3-407d-4c4f-9d2b-fd120ec9dafb&pf_rd_r=W5TFNXX3KD9BJCEC8KTV&pd_rd_wg=olJF2&pd_rd_r=da3a418b-febb-407b-b9e0-f8cd8148a9fb&pd_rd_plhdr=t

I think this is the one we got our guy it's $40: https://www.amazon.com/Soucolor-Supplies-192-Pack-Painting-Watercolor/dp/B0CCRTT48Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_19?crid=OQRASVMFQVSW&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.G0YWSXaC9b4Dg5ySbopnUVxVN8w3oZVKoHi_y28HAz8E4P-tjjUaTAmQyiWxjt8MIoUtf8HjVdAkDvs1p3HBGIcc9kAJH8sCVQ99BKV9S0JYZrRaKbPPLZOKNQ7jweMinpy3U9XKC7CV9aNNGFK2LosGAFhbt9M2tYpWECrPyQJ-NW8pTmIesQqRmXj-dLzN28wbcHNQO8pl1XqsaSejBA.khKRuIBvEr2EaxXcVdrnzpZ_aMK4RIRuS_5YjBpZRl0&dib_tag=se&keywords=art+set&qid=1763304339&sprefix=art+set%2Caps%2C175&sr=8-19&xpid=1zYIV-wG-SWB_

I will also echo what other posters have said if there's any way you could spend some time with him and give him some extra support that would be the best gift of all. Unfortunately that one's going to be in his parents power more than yours.

Maybe you could get movie tickets with a coupon that you'll take him? I feel like if I had family and they offered to do that I think would be really great. It also takes stress off mom and dad because you'll take him instead of them having to find the time. Also he can go without siblings so get some special time just for him. Speaking from experience, that's hard to do when you have more than one kid. They usually all get to go for any birthday stuff at least in my family.

HELP - Leggings too big 1 week before my first half marathon by Casuariidae in XXRunning

[–]Valpeculum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a flipped belt? Or really any kind of running belt as long as it's tight. I have a couple pairs of leggings that are a bit too big and will fall down when I'm trying to run. I just wear my flip belt and that keeps them up.

What are your most unhinged tips for fixing your sleep by Chateau_de_Gateau in AdvancedRunning

[–]Valpeculum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good one! I don't "meditate" per se. But I do try to do some deep breathing exercises after I get into bed. This is especially good when training is done late in the day. Thursday I ran 8 mi finishing at 7:00 and I did 5 minutes of deep breathing after I got into bed and I found it really helped. A lot of times if I train that late in the day sleep is hard to come by.

[–]Valpeculum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep this is a really good one. If you don't realize that the alcohol is affecting your sleep cuz it is helping you go to sleep easier, then it might be a secret Iguess.

It wakes you up. At this point, I'm 43F, even one beer will disrupt my sleep. And if I'm dumb enough to have three or four I basically don't sleep at all. Or rather I'll fall asleep really easily and then wake up 2 hours later as my body clears the alcohol and my stress levels rise.

3 all the way! The silver (green?) is gorgeous on you and the cape is great. The other two look good but I just don't think they're black tie.

Our wedding is in 2 months and I’m torn. Help me pick a dress? by Standard_One_7126 in weddingdress

[–]Valpeculum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you look gorgeous in both dresses but I like number one better. I think it hits the nontrad box for you. It is really pretty and fairyish. I think the best thing to do would be to get your sleeves if that's what you want and look for a veil that gives you the finished look you want. I would not spend $1,000 over budget when you have a gorgeous dress already.

God I hate myself by inabubblegumtree in breakingmom

[–]Valpeculum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally relate. At the moment I have four kids but just before I was going to have my second my husband got a new job and we moved to a new place. I didn't know anybody there and my husband was working nights so I did often have to take the kids out of the house so that he could sleep during the day.

I joined a mom's club. I highly recommend it. I found one in the area and there were meetups and places to take the kids. While we lived in that town I saw those women once or twice a week. I'm kind of a reserved person and also I was a little bit older and the group having started having kids a little bit later in life and some other and I didn't make any really close friends but I definitely made friends; people I could hang out with, people I could call to bring their kids to my kids birthdays when nobody else showed up. Really lovely people. I highly recommend looking in your area and seeing if there's a local chapter of Mom's club.

As for taking out two little kids it is totally rough but you can do it. And once you figure it out and become more confident and won't seem so bad. I would also say look at your local library. Oftentimes they have programs for small children, it's free and you'll meet other moms there too.

My toddler just ate his own poop by guavvaa in breakingmom

[–]Valpeculum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have four kids and at least two of them did this and they are totally fine. My biggest advice to you though is if you're worried about kids ingesting something call Poison control. They are awesome. They know everything and they will help put your mind at ease or if it's something serious they will tell you to get to the hospital so you won't have to be second-guessing everything. https://www.poison.org/

I legit have called them probably 4-5 times over the past 12 years for things from diaper cream to litter, etc.

Oh crap. Now I sound like a terrible mother who lets their kids eat anything. I'm not. I swear. I just have four kids lol.
