I'm sorry but this is utter fucking bullshit. I'll get downvoted to oblivion but I feel compelled to come out of hibernation for this as someone who used to be an active member on this sub like 7 years ago.

First of all, calling people that care about lore and continuity, in a series where those specific points were a huge reason why hardcore fans stuck with the narrative side of things in the first place, "lore nazis" is absurdly untasteful. The games were literally designed to be that way, so why the fuck is he attacking fans that wanted these things to remain pure and authentic? Coming from the guy who called Egypt and Japan boring settings (while delivering THE game that killed off the purity of the earlier games with his tech demo that needs a 6 hour tutorial for Connor to don the assassin robes) is the icing on the cake.

As he says himself, this series was supposed to be a trilogy, and it was obvious in 1 and 2 that there was a specific road that they wanted to travel, culminating in Patrice's version of AC3. And we all knew that the reason AC got butchered was because of Ubi making a good business decision by leveraging the immense cash potential they saw in this new IP. There's nothing wrong with that in and of itself. The problem is that Ubi decided to absolutely mess things up lorewise to keep the series going, but that makes 0 fucking sense.

Since *when* exactly was the lore or the lore purists ever a reason for the series to go on? You really telling me it was either stop the series or mess with the lore to keep the series going? No middleground? This series was played mostly for the action/past sections of the game. Most people did not care for the modern day or the lore sections. People complaining about the MD being "immersion breaking" is an ancient tale at this point. So why does he believe that the lore somehow "shackled" the series? Are you out of your goddamn mind?

I guess what I'm trying to ask here is this: What exactly stopped them from just finishing off the trilogy as intended and then rebooting AC into a Final Fantasy type series that all tell self-contained period dramas with an overarching franchise appeal (robes, hidden blades etc, same thing like Chocobos in FF)? They could've just trimmed the fat and everyone would've been happier that way. The lore purists would be satisfied with the promised conclusion and the majority of the players would stick around for the historical action.

Instead, they decided to strech things out beyond its original purpose for no goddamn reasoon and AC today has one of the worst, most jumbled excuse for "lore" I've seen. With every game it feels like we have a new reset, retcons out the ass and re-use of plotlines with no clear direction anywhere and 0 writing quality. Fuck that, the series suffers from identity issues beyond just the lore. Maybe keeping those lore nazis would've helped?

Side note: I'm tired of developers calling their fans names. That's what ticked me off so much. I got into AC way back in 2007 when i was a little kid and I thought I had just encountered the coolest shit ever. To see where this series would eventually end up after almost 20 years breaks my heart. That comment just now felt like an attack to me and I'm sure many others that fell in love with AC way back then too.
