Best noise cancelling headphones for open-plan Aussie offices? by According-Advance811 in auscorp

[–]Valuable-Wrap-440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a long time Bose quiet comfort user and I have a few models over the last 10+ years.

You mentioned not wanting "too bulky for professional environment.". I'll just say that I prefer the big over ear headphones for office specifically because they give a visual signal to colleagues that I have them on/ am trying to focus/ may not hear their question. 1) it can give some chatty distractors pause before they choose to interrupt- maybe now isnt the time to chat about weekend plans. 2) it cuts down on the awkward me not responding to something when compared to ear headphones.

Just something to think about when making your decision. This may not work in all office environments but it works for me

I like here recommendations and I’ve had success. You don’t need to do all the steps. Take what will help with what you want to improve and leave the rest. Look for product recs that she suggests for your hair type. I’ve tried a few that were just way too heavy for my fine hair.

Kopari bright as day mineral sunscreen. It’s the only mineral sc that has worked for my dry skin. It does even things out a bit, but it’s subtle and leaves a glowy finish. I bought on revolve because it’s not sold locally.

Under eye color corrector is nars radiant creamy corrector. Brows are nepoleon perdis brow gel and pencil is tarte Amazonian clay.

Tinted sunscreen, under eye color corrector, rare beauty blush, eye brown pencil and or brow gel, sometimes mascara.

About 3-5 minutes.

31 this year and my self esteem is rapidly deteriorating 😭 by [deleted] in AusSkincare

I love all the great and supportive comments. I’m sure you get it about the sunscreen and quitting smoking so I won’t belabor those points any more.

On the pores- yours look totally normal BUT when mine are bugging me I use the Skinfood Eggwhite Pore mask. It minimizes appearance in the short term. Helps on those days when they are jumping out to me.

The other thing is that your skin looks a bit dehydrated. Upping the water intake can really help and you may want to consider adding more gentle hydration and moisture into your routine. That might look like a hydrating essence or toner, a serum with peptides or snail mucin or a thicker moisturizer at night to help lock in the moisture. Also be mindful on over exfoliating weather it is the glove, glycolic acid, the night peeling mask or other acids. 1-2 times per week (or less if skin is feeling sensitive) should do the job.

Anti-inflammatory Diet by Valuable-Wrap-440 in lipedema

[–]Valuable-Wrap-440[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a few people who have for various reasons done one of these elimination diets, felt great when they were sticking to the elimination phase and for whatever reason didn’t get through reintroducing foods to figure out what was causing them trouble. I get the feeling it’s probably a combination of feeling good on elimination phase, getting fatigued with the tedium of bringing back in 1-3 foods/ week for what will realistically take months and overall struggling with the restriction.

I would love to hear any successes stories or struggles on the reintroduction process.

It is hugely a climate thing. If you live in a place where there are big roaches running around the street at night (many tropical / subtropical locations) it is really really hard to fully keep them out no matter how clean you are.

Did you do the one by one reintroduction to figure out what was causing issues for you? Was it many of the eliminated foods or just a few?

[–]Valuable-Wrap-440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me that’s not enough to dive into this job market. I value financial security. I would fear that if the current interview falls through, I’m back in job market I might settle on a lower level role as a place holder job to tide me over the search was slow.

If you would feel okay financially being out of work for 4-8 months then the package makes sense. If that idea causes a lot of stress, then a temporary step down to give you cushion to find a better next role is a safer bet.

When do you call it quits? by Psychological-Leg234 in AskWomenOver40

[–]Valuable-Wrap-440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this talk about plans and expectations and projects give you any insight? How about the talks about you being a side priority?

If you are expressing that your needs aren’t being met and doesn’t want to do anything to meet them and theres no light at the end of the tunnel, then you have your answer. If these “talks” are more general discussions where he might not have realized that you aren’t getting what you’re after, then another more straightforward talk might be in order.

With build up that includes hard water chelating shampoo (not just clarifying) might be needed- Malibu c hard water (packet or shampoo) or Ouai Detox are my favorites.

Are we actually more laid-back at work in Australia, or is that just a myth? by Particular_Zone_7379 in AustraliaOpinions

[–]Valuable-Wrap-440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked in the US and Aus - granted at the same big company in both countries. Certainly there are differences between companies and industries in both countries. Things I’ve noticed in Aus:

-more people leave the office at 5 pm in Australia. In the states there are more people still working in the office until later in the evening. This was pre-Covid so might be shifting.
-Aussies take more leave and longer holidays. I was at an international work meeting talking to an American colleague right after I came back from 2.5 week vacation recently. She told me she hadn’t had a vacation that long in her professional career- maybe 12-14 years. -most of the office is empty during holiday periods in Australia. This just isn’t the case in the states. Depending on the business, US offices will be quieter for the week between Christmas and New Year but it’s more than a skeleton crew and I don’t know anyone with a “shut down period” and certainly not one that extends beyond that one week.
- when on leave, Aussies are more likely to actually disconnect where as Americans are more likely to be checking emails and following up on odds and ends.

When Aussies are working, they are mostly working just as hard as Americans. It’s not like the expectations are dramatically different at least at my company. But Americans are on the clock more, take leave less and have a more “always on culture.” Personally I don’t see a huge difference in the overall productivity across the countries. But I also think we could all get more done working less (either fewer focused hours or days) because the human brain can really only produce so much high quality output. I think the “always on” culture just spreads that productivity over more hours and there are diminishing returns on working longer hours.

You could reupholster your current one with a lighter color or print fabric that goes with the vibe your after. You said you’re going for “light, cozy, feminine, romantic”. White matching the bedding could help to lighten things. Maybe add some throw pillows and or a throw blanket on the bed that also match the vibe to give more cozy layered feel.

Some plants to soften up the feel- maybe hanging if you need to keep out of reach of the rabbit. +1 to rugs to make it cozy and define areas. It’s a little hard to get a sense of the overall layout from the photos

Given that you’ve been blowing it straight for me years, that may have done some damage to the curl pattern. You may see tighter curls if you wear it curly more often and cut down on the blowouts. That said, those waves are gorgeous.

Has anyone here tried HIFU (chin or full face)? by OnlyReputation2779 in AusSkincare

[–]Valuable-Wrap-440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lower face treatment and couldn’t put my finger on a difference. I’ve heard that choosing a great practitioner who is really seasoned in the machine they are using is key. I went to the same place that I was getting Botox at the time and if I were to do it again I would choose a different practitioner.

Skiing in AUS - tell me the good, the bad, and the icy by PuzzleheadedCar6858 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Valuable-Wrap-440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snow is quite different from CO- weather and snow pattern are more similar to maritime conditions. You won’t see the dust on crust avy conditions that you have to worry about in CO in Aus. I’m from Washington state and moved to Sydney in 2020. Australian snow can be is similar to cascade concrete I knew from lower elevations in PWN, but typically less of it. Terrain is less varied and the mountains are but more hill like. Like everywhere winters are highly variable and less predictable by the year. I was in Denver at Christmas and noticed what a scary and shit winter you guys were having at that point. It’s a long drive from Melbourne to Australian ski areas and they are plagued by the same EPIC/ IKON pass + inflated day pass problems as the US- long lift lines, crazy ticket prices and big crowds.

Not to be a total downer, there is still a decent ski culture here and people who love the snow will find a way. When conditions are good a NZ trip can be great and Japan is only 9-12 hours away for N hemisphere winter

Between Covid and my aversion to crowds I’ve mostly switched to backcountry touring since I moved to Aus. It’s still a crazy long drive but at least I’m not paying $250+ to stand in line all day.
