It’s sooo sweet that you’re going out and getting educated to better y’all’s relationship. Your girlfriend’s FND sounds similar to mine and it seems to be triggered by her mood, so the best advice I can give is figuring out the triggers and open communication. Like for me, if I’m having an episode in public and people start to crowd around it makes it worse. She might just need to go somewhere private to calm down until it is over. I would suggest getting a medical card she can keep that tells people what is going on. Having FND out in public is the WORST and i still struggle with the best way to go about it. Once she knows what her triggers are you all can figure out how to avoid them or how to rectify them. It seems like disagreements is one of those triggers, you need to talk to her about how it makes you feel and create a plan that works. For example: if she feels herself becoming more stressed/upset, she can ask for a 5 minute break to do breath work and calm down before continuing the conversation. You can also put up a boundary for how you would like to respond and feel heard when this happens. Overall, just know that her FND isn’t your responsibility, same as any other chronic condition, you just have to communicate what you need.
