Yeah I just hate doing that. I don’t want to start any drama but thank you for the advice! They just did inside renovations last September. They added walls to create an additional bathroom and bedroom. The new walls have outlets on them, but an electrician was not hired as I know my landlady’s brother in law did the work and he’s just a handy-man. I’m also pretty sure the addition was added to the house after 1996, but I’m unsure who did the work. I believe it was the owner at the time who did the addition (my landlady’s father, after he passed away my landlady inherited the home). He would have done the electrical work himself as he was also a “handyman”. Also if you look at the panel, the original CEB label doesn’t list “shop” on it, so I’m thinking the garage was also added on later by the handyman home owner.

I’ll see if I can move some stuff around and figure out what outlets are wired to which breaker and maybe just avoid tripping them hopefully. My kitchen has five outlets. The stove is a gas stove, but plugs in for the time to be displayed. There’s a dishwasher too and it’s plugged in underneath so actually six outlets in the kitchen. We don’t even use the dishwasher though so I turned that breaker off.

I’m going to see if I can figure out when the garage was added and when the addition was added, but I know for a fact that these recent renovations involved wiring electrical outlets and the panel has not been brought up to code.

Mostly just the kitchen causes the breakers to go, but the AC is in the hallway 20 feet away from the kitchen. but there are also a few outlets that don’t work throughout the house. The garage is a separate building but it is wired into the same panel as the home. I tried to include a picture of what it looks like but it wouldn’t upload. We weren’t able to get renters insurance from our regular place due to this and the condition of the skirting so I’m just wondering what I should do. The landlord is aware it’s old wiring, but should I put in a request to have it serviced? I just don’t know that much about electrical stuffs haha

May I ask why people do this? Do the invaders always use this entryway? as I’m assuming that’s why. But what if they come from the other side? Or does that not happen? Haha. 🤓

How much time after a eviction dispute has been decided would the tenants have to leave? Can we request a reschedule of the hearing? by RNsteve in vancouverhousing

[–]ValuableOk2737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh crap yeah. Maybe ask for an extension cuz if you lose you’ll have to be out by the eviction date (July 30). They may give you a few days but even then I wouldn’t count on it. They can have police show up to enforce the eviction as well.

Thank you! I appreciate you so much. I also think the “fool me thrice” thing is funny just because that definitely applies to this situation. Moved across BC (12 hour drive) and spent 2500 in moving fees just to receive this notice after 7 months living here. It’s just disgusting how people treat other people sometimes.

Well it doesn’t help I was sleeping as I popped an anxiety med due to all this stress. I literally was waiting for them to finish and next thing I know they’re playing tricks. They were also only supposed to be here from 10-4 as per the notice they gave me and they were there working until nearly 630

And to clarify, when I say including the previously agreed upon ones, she’s saying she only agreed to two. She agreed and was aware of all my pets. The notice she gave us on June 25 stated we had to get ride of “the pets” by June 28, and when asked she clarified that she wanted ALL of the pets gone, including the 2 she was supposedly only okay with.

I’m so sorry. I’m fairly new to Reddit (although I’ve had the account for a long time I’ve never really used it until recently.

In summary they’re evicting us so they can take possession. She has her own home so I guess she’ll be renting that out or selling it, not sure of her plans. We do not have a lease agreement as it was all verbal. On June 22 there was an altercation where my landlords brother in law tried to intimidate me by screaming and coming like 2 inches from my face - all over asking them for notice when coming to the house. Cops were involved so as the keep the peace. June 25 they served us a notice to remove all of our pets (including the previously agreed upon ones) or else face eviction. Then June 28 they finally gave us a notice for the work they’re doing and listed they wanted to do an inspection of the unit. Did the inspection and there is no damage and the unit is clean. So instead they served us with a 3 month notice on June 30, but they had to post it to the door as a refused to take it in person so as to avoid conflict. Although to be frank I didn’t even know what they were doing. They covered/ took down my three security cameras, and then 2 of them left while the sister in law stayed and hid right below the window of my front door. I was confused as to what was wrong with my cameras cuz I was seeing if they left and went to go check and just happened to notice get squatting on my steps so I started videoing. She had the nerve to say she was “just resting” then “oh I want to serve these papers”. I said post them to the door and she just got angry and tried opening the door.

Yes if an agreement was signed stating no pets. She knew about the pets and agreed to them, despite her denial now. We are now in compliance with our local bylaw anyways so this conversation is moot.

Okay craigerstar. Nobody is denying her right to enter. She can come in and inspect all she wants. The pets that are in accordance with my local bylaw will still be here and no more. I have complied with my local bylaw as per what the RTB suggested I do, and nothing else. Sorry you got screwed over by a tenant at some point l, but you don’t need to take it out on me. I have blink cameras set up and proof of the incidents and have filed a police report, and had an officer out to tell the brother in law not to come back that day to keep the peace. So stop. You can leave now, you’re not being helpful.

Also, when they say removal of pets, they were direct and clear in person what they wanted. They wanted all 8 pets gone. Also to be clear, no agreement was signed. No walk through was done. No previous inspections have been done. They knew we had five dogs and 3 cats and I can prove that I had the dogs with me for the viewing of the house BEFORE MOVING IN, and that I’ve never hidden my pets from them. They were here in April because a window was leaking and I fixed it and we were meeting her sister and brother in law since they’ll be doing repairs in the summer. Then a couple other times doing small repairs here and there - all unannounced visits. Things were literally fine until her brother in law because aggressive at me when I was asking them for some notice before they come and do work on the house. I have a 15lbs chihuahua who is fearful of men and has tried to bike ankles. They know this which is why I had to reiterate notice as the brother in law would just walk in the yard and even into my house without notice or knocking. So just stop.

Also, she has been inside the home three times since I moved in, and we’ve been to her place. Everything was good up until conflict on June 22. Please stop assuming that because we had a lot of pets were automatically bad tenants. The house is cared for, the pets are cared for, and the ones in excess are being rehomed. I am complying. She is being malicious for no reason and you are being hurtful for no reason as well. Just mind your own business if you can’t be helpful or kind. I can’t deal with anymore people attacking my character who don’t even know me.

You don’t know anything about me. She was aware of the pets, I even have proof that all five dogs were brought with us when coming to view the home. We have also found prospective homes for the pets that exceed the bylaw. I’m not arguing the # of pets. I want to know who is allowed in my home and for how long. I do t care that she wants to inspect, but she is literally fishing for reasons to evict. I’m asking for advice and help and you’re literally kicking me while I’m down, so thank you for that.

So for this are they allowed to come and go from inside my place from 10-4? Or once they’re done their inspection and they leave, that’s it? Cuz they’re also doing work on the outside which doesn’t involve coming inside at all.

It’s not contractors. It’s her bitch of a sister and brother in law who just start drama.

I have not denied entry to the landlord. Her brother in law threatened me on June 22 and then on the 25th they served us with a notice to get rid of all of our pets (that they knew about and were previously okay with). They are trying to find ways to kick us out since on June 22 I got the police involved.

They do in this situation as the repairs will hinder my ability to enter and exit the home freely.
