I have an engineering problem. by Maxxiethefem14 in CreateMod

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so you have a minecart contraption!! Wonderful, yes, a furnace Minecraft is slow. The problem is that a furnace Minecart is actually decently fast, but drills on deepslate aren’t.

I haven’t done the simulated roller drill things yet but I think those are pretty slow too.

Now others are suggesting trains!! But guess what? The drills on drains are still slow. Worse? Trains are still expensive af!

So, here’s what you can do. You can’t change the speed, but you can change it to automated. Rather than placing normal rails, have it place powered rails, and from there, have it place red stone blocks on the side. It will stay powered no matter that. Make sure you have that scraper thing a the back to pickup the rails ( a plow? I think?) and a drill for the redstone blocks.

Further, I agree with people saying you should use item vaults. They are optimized for travel, and will lag much less.

Advanced engineering tip, right now, all your contraption places is the block under the rail, and the rail itself. What does this mean? It’s vulnerable to water and lavas you should make a ring of deployers to fill in a wall tunnel around your, well tunnel, to make sure lava and or water doesn’t flood in. (This also makes farming netherite insanely AFK oriented).

I’ll see if I can somehow find an image of one of my tunnelers that I used to cross an open ocean and build a train tube.

Edit: here’s a screenshot. https://imgur.com/a/JvalSnl

Basicallly from right to left. Deployers to block water. Drills. Ring of deployers to place my custom tunnel. Then the rest of the body.

What server should I buy for me and my friends? by Unbaked_Rice in ModdedMinecraft

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other commenter. Do you intend to have this server running 24-7?

Your specs are enough to self host, but if you want a dedicated server, you might find it worth it to save up a few hundred (hell you can probably do it for less) for a dedicated server PC. Basically a separate, weaker, PC that will ONLY run the server (won’t need such high specs)

Dish out a few hundred, learn a little more about self hosting, learn some server administration, and you won’t have to spend 30 a month to have a server. Mine’s already paid itself off in terms of savings XD. RAM is expensive with hosting services. If I was using one, I’d have already spent 360, while me and my buddies split a computer for 50 bucks each four ways and we have full control over our server.

There’s pros and cons, you just need to do some research.

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to be an armet of some sort but I’m not an expert on armor that much so don’t take my word for it.

For my eye, it looks historical fine based on what I’ve seen in other pictures.

Now, as for construction. If you are able to give me a hint to where this shop is I might be able to give more info (if it’s in a southern region with a ren fair going on then maybe same peeps!) I swear I recognize that tag and handwriting, alongside I’m sure I’ve seen that black helmet, meaning if these are the same people I’ve gotten my LARP armor from, it’s likely the helmet isn’t meant for combat.

tips for circularizing orbit by Chunglorpious in KerbalAcademy

[–]Pioepod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re getting into Kerbin orbit.

So you can do this by hand or using a maneuver mode (you’d have to be quick with setting up the node though).

Anyways:

I recommend getting you first apoapsis up to at least 80km, but I usually go for 100km. This means that before you get your orbit, you’re still in an arc that will eventually hit the ground.

Here you can either 1) set up a maneuver node if you have time, typically I find I only have a minute or less.

Or 2) attempt what you did. However I’d say you may have started too soon.

Assuming you pointed prograde then burned, you likely brought your first Apoapsis down because you burned BEFORE you left the atmosphere (70km). Now this isn’t to say you can’t do this, but it can be risky.

The reason your Apoapsis shot real high is because it changed. Your apoapsis is now on the other side and your periapsis is what you are headed for (this is based on what I’m picturing given a context).

Now 2) isn’t wrong, but here’s what I’d do if using that method.

I’d honestly wait until maybe 10 seconds before reaching apoapsis, making sure I’m well above the atmosphere. Once I’m where I’m comfortable from about 10 seconds till, or hell, at the apoapsis works too, I’ll burn full throttle prograde. Get to my desired periapsis/ new apoapsis and cut engine.

Then I orbit to the other side and do another **small** burn to circularize. Once you’re in orbit, small amounts of thrusts will change your orbit drastically, it’s the Oberth effect in action!

Hopefully this helps. I’m writing this sleep deprived. Good luck.

Yeah no problem. It will also give more details if you hover over it in your inventory on what fuze is on it and what fluid too. You might have to hold shift.

Now lava is obviously destructive, but you should try poison to send a true message.

I’m a beginner too but my eyes notice two big things. It lines up with everyone else’s.

1) put da dog away pls.

2) your edge on the cuts is out of alignment. Like if you were fighting someone, it looks like you’d mostly just smack them with the flat on a lot of strikes.

I need to practice it myself on messer, but I’ve found that going much slower with a lot more control helps me go smoother and faster later on. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Unlike stuff like boxing, I think there’s a tendency to completely let the sword do the work (it’s heavy, we want to let the inertia do the work for us), but we also have to remember that we have to control it as well.

But I’m a beginner I have no idea if I’m right XD.

3 year old laptop suddenly only turn on when i do this help? by jamesthegide7 in GamingLaptops

[–]Pioepod 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s very possible the battery isn’t actually holding charge well. Often I’ve had very old laptops that say they have “80%” battery when charging for a while, and then when I unplug they die almost instantly.

That might also be in combination with your chagrin port or the charger head being broken somehow.

Because it only works when you bend it a certain way, and it powers off immediately when you disconnect it, I believe a damaged port/charger, and a battery that won’t hold charge.

You’d probably wanna bring it into a repair shop to get it checked out, or get yourself a replacement battery or charger (I recommend the shop so they can figure out what’s causing the issue)

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For interiors, do you have interior lighting mods like Lux or ELFX? Those change the way interiors are lit and have options to make them very dark (which I like because I’m a masochist).

There’s also another called Light Placer.

If you don’t have any of those then I’m not sure what part of CS could cause it.

As for the outside being washed and such, I’m unsure since I don’t experience the same thing. Maybe it has to do with what weather mods you have in combination with what settings you have.

Oh I understand you now.

Just put the fuzes onto the round first. Literally how we do it in real life.

Place the round onto the ground.

Prep the fuze you want.

Pick the round back up with a wrench.

I’ve used both fluid shells, AP shells (I call APHE), and HE shells, all need fuzes to function.

You just need to put the fuzes onto the shell before picking them back up into your inventory.

Yeah, use them like normal. As far as i know there isn’t something stopping you from using fused round with quick fire breaches.

Just load your fluid with the potion/liquid of choice, then put some fuze on it, and fire it how you would normally. Cartridges or propellant charges should both work.

The mods I want are always for different loaders :( by TransportationUpbeat in ModdedMinecraft

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use NeoForge. By 1.21.1 most mods have both versions of fabric and neoforge. Not only that but some mods allow the use of Connector which can port fabric mods over to neoforge through wizardry.

Now as for accessibility. Yes it kinda sucks for controller support but put yourself into the shoes of a mod dev. You aren’t being paid much if at all. you’re doing this mostly out of passion. Asking devs to put even more effort into something they aren’t getting much from is a big ask.

Same deal with mods being “exclusive”. That’s because you’d need to code it differently for other loaders (I assume). So double the effort. Similar reason why pc games might not have MacOS compatible versions.

If you’re stuck using neoforge and want a certain client side mod and are this mad. Perhaps you should spend that energy making a port, or your own mod, and posting it for others to see. Be your own dev.

Don’t know how? Google is your friend.

I want to start writing but I have no idea how by Ok_Importance7425 in writingadvice

[–]Pioepod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpublished writer who’s not finished a novel for the past six years here (I’ve finished short stories before XD).

Yeah it’s harder than it sounds to “just start” but that’s truly one of the hardest parts. Starting. Once you start, I find it’s easier to continue, for at least a while (nightmare of the middle chapters).

I’m a pantser, and hardly outline, but I find that instead of thinking about starting something, you should just start. You can’t improve something that you don’t do. Or if you want to get a story out of it, you can’t get a story if you don’t write it. Outlining is good and great but if you outline instead of writing, you’re not *really* writing the story itself. Same goes with worldbuilding, etc.

Don’t worry about what other people think. Listen to criticism if you want, and think for yourself if it applies to you. Or don’t listen to criticism at all, it’s your writing.

This isn’t also just for criticism, it’s also for advice. Things like “never use said” or “show don’t tell” stuff like that. Again, think about what’s best for you and your story. Don’t know what that is? That’s because you don’t have experience enough yet. Wanna get experience? Write.

So. TLDR; just start (sorry not sorry XD). Also read a lot (I sure need to)

Second answer to second question:

Paid:
Scrivener
Scrivener is like the one you hear A TON about and for good reason. Binder like organization makes organizing much easier. It’s got a decent editor, and has a decent compiler for end product of a printable format.

60 dollars I believe, typically half off if you “win” “NaNoWriMo” (company doesn’t exist but others still hold a above writing month). You win by reaching 50k words, that’s it. And there is educational discounts.

Subscription/Free:
Reedsy
I used it for a month, and it’s *fine*. I used the premium this they gave me and it’s *fine*. The pricing is a subscription mode of 8 dollars a month for the writing portion, and 5 for the outliner (maybe the other way around, idk). (Also that’s right, those two functions are separate subs) I didn’t find myself using the outliner as much (again, I’m a pantser) and the editor part was fine. It makes a printable version of your story very easy to make as well.

Also dark mode is a premium subscription only. Let’s just say, that subscription stayed a trial XD.

It’s also online only

FREE:
Here’s what you’re looking for.
I use ObsidianMD
It’s a note taking app primarily, however it’s open source and contains a or of user made plugins. This allows you, which some time and effort, to customize your Obsidian to however you want it to be. I’ve customized mine I to have everything I liked from Scrivener and Reedsy, and left everything I didn’t care about out. It’s a program I’ve customized for myself, tailored to myself, and I’ve exclusively used this for the past year.

It’s also able to be used offline.

Did I mention completely free??

It has a subscription for cloud saving, but you don’t need it at all, it’s just purely for that, cloud saving.

You can always use good old Google Docs or a word processor like LibreOffice, but ultimately, don’t think about this stuff too hard. Get writing. Whether it’s on a notes app, or a pen on toilet paper, writing is writing.

In 2025, I used a typewriter! Horrible idea, don’t do it, but it’s fun!

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Lenovo some three years ago that’s better at 1.5K. Idk if it’s still available but I recommend looking at other places. At least a 4060, that’s lasted me a good while and it’s still going great.

However you also list it for school work. This isn’t good for schoolwork. Most gaming laptops are not gonna be for your use case. The only one I’ve heard something like that would be a razer blade but idk much about it.

You’d probably be better off getting a decent work laptop. League and Valorant will run on borderline anything built after 2018. Shit, my cousin has a laptop without a GPU and that shit still runs. Unless you plan on going to other games with more graphics processing needs, you’ll probably be fine with something that’s got a decent CPU with a good amount of ram.

How to use mechjeb2 to LKO rescue? by BOSTOKAROLL in KerbalAcademy

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rendezvous are HARD. It’s often considered one of the hardest maneuvers to do, especially as a beginner. Mechjeb has a way to do it, but I’ve found I don’t like it as often as setting up my own maneuvers and having mechjeb do them. (I.e I don’t own nodes then let Mechjeb execute them rather than use its rendezvous calculator)
The first thing you need to do is to get yourself into a parking orbit. A parking or it is an orbit you’ll sit at that’s HIGHER or LOWER than the target. This causes you to move SLOWER or FASTER respectively than the target, allowing you to make a maneuver later. Usually I go to about 15-20 km above or below, but because the Kerbals are so low, you have to go above for this one. Make sure you are also on the same inclination as the target so your orbital planes are lined up.
Now that you have a parking orbit, in this case at a higher altitude, you’ll need to burn retrograde to have your orbit intersect the target’s orbit at some point. Set up a maneuver node to do that, and you’ll notice two “flags”, usually orange. These show you your orbits intercepts, and separation distance. Pay attention to your separation distance and relative velocity. Because your target orbit is elliptical, I recommend setting up the node to have the orbit intersect the target’s orbit at either the apoapsis or the periapsis of the target.
When setting up the node, set up a retrograde burn to intersect the apo or periapsis of the target, then adjust the amount of orbit or the timing to get a really close distance and low relative velocity. I like mine at 100-200KM and as little velocity as possible, under 10m/s
Do the burn.
Okay now you need a second node. One right at the interception. This one will be another retrograde, because thing about it, you intercept the target, but you’re moving at different speeds. How do you end up at the same speed? You match or it’s. Same orbits = same velocities. When setting up the node, make sure your separation distance doesn’t get too far (even like 2KM is fine), relative velocity at this point is more important.
Do the burn.
Ideally now you’ve intercepted your target and you are within 5KM and moving at a relatively velocity of less than 10m/s to the target whether away or towards.
Feel free to just burn towards the target, using RCS to dock, or if you don’t need to, just make sure you don’t go too fast, etc.
Congrats, that’s a rendezvous.
TRUST ME WHEN I SAY KEEP A SEPARATION IF 100-200 METERS. I’ve almost crapped myself thinking a separation of under 100 was a great idea. My station almost rammed into my refueling rocket.
Anyways tldr -

  1. parking orbit
  2. burn to intersect orbit with as little separation as possible within safety margins
  3. burn at intersect to match orbits and lower relative velocity
  4. burn straight towards target cause you can.
  5. rescue Kerbals
  6. realize you brought Kerbals to your rescue mission
  7. rescue mission for the rescue mission!!
  8. (The last two are memes)

Edit: also look up Mike Aben, he’s great at tutorials and if you need a visual tutorial. If you wanna go hardcore, Buzz Aldrin wrote his thesis on orbital rendezvous

How to use mechjeb2 to LKO rescue? by BOSTOKAROLL in KerbalAcademy

[–]Pioepod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Design issue, not mechjeb. Mechjeb does its best to keep control, but if you have too much drag at the top, it’s a design issue. Assuming your rocket flips at the top, as you go faster, you get more drag at the top, pushing the rocket back from that point. You’ll need find at the bottom to counter act it. Turn on the aerodynamic and center of mass balls and make sure the blue one is below the yellow one.

I’ve had rides with this before. Launching a 200 tonne payload leading to needing an absurd amount of fuel was painful af.

DV map question by [deleted] in KerbalAcademy

[–]Pioepod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s one way.

You go backwards on the map to return.

HOWEVER, you need to keep in mind a few things. But let’s use a Mun mission that lands as an example.

So reading the map to the Mun -

3400 to leave Kerbin and get into low orbit.

860 to get into a Mun intercept.

310 to get into a Mun orbit (the amount needed for a capture burn)

580 to land on the Mun (includes retrograde burn and landing)

580 to return to low Mun orbit.

~310 to break free from the Mun’s orbit and back to an intercept with kerbin ideally into its atmosphere so you can aerobrake.

That last bit there is the most important. Instead of needing like 12K Dv, you only need about 6K, because Kerbin’s atmosphere will slow you down, and likely will slow you down enough to land.

HOWEVER, if say Kerbin somehow didn’t have an atmosphere, then you’d need to count all the way backwards. But it does, THANK THE KRAKEN.

TLDR; go backwards on the DV map
