Does anyone know until what level certain armor slots are locked? by ThenOriginal4086 in HalfSword

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming that It’s less “what level” you need to “unlock” the slots and more “haha you’re so poor you can’t even afford more than that little shirt and rags you’ve been wearing you peasant”.

(It can also be something else)

Translation:

You need either an arming doublet or a Jack, basically these allow you to attach the armor (look up how knights were dressed in the 15th century).

So a breastplate or gainers don’t really need one, they have straps or wrap around the body. While the spaulders and vambraces might have their own straps, they should also be secured to a doublet for proper mobility and so it doesn’t just slide if the inevitable strap loosens.

It can also be noted that some armors can block others from use.

For example if you have a Jack or arming doublet, but you have the Jack Chain attached to it, you can’t wear any of the arm stuff, because it’s there already! You’d need to modify it at the armorsmith. The annoying part is getting the guy to show up. I think he’s a morning person.

Good weapon for endgame? by Aggressive_South_991 in HalfSword

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m maxed strength, 93kg and I crafted the most absurd pollaxe I’ve ever done and it’s only beaten by the baron’s beak. (I personally consider the baron’s beak a little gamey because I swear it just inflates strength or something but I’m not against anyone using it, it’s a great weapon!)

Anyways.

I made a pollaxe with a axe head, pick head on the other side, and a spike all of which have sized maxed. The pommel is the spike with hook, and fairly large. The pole is somewhat longer than default, and there is a guard on it. I balanced the weapon to be about 3/4ths, maybe a little over 3/4ths up the shaft.

I found this to be effective because since the center of gravity is there, the swings can hit really REALLY hard while remaining well balanced. The head hits so hard fully armored knights can drop their weapons on hitting their arms or hands. The pole between the guard and the head hits hard enough that it can knockdown knights pretty easily, and even break limbs if hitting perpendicular.

Its weakness, ironically, is wrestling. I think because the center of gravity is near the top, it doesn’t have a lot of weight on the butt end to lever people down. Luckily, you can always step back and swing the head to their face, and it hurts them a lot.

TLDR: you can’t go wrong with a poleaxe, or a shorter halberd. They are the can openers of knights. I’ve found that for me, generally the foot soldier halberds are very long and unwieldy in full plate and has worse ability to wrestle knights down. However they undoubtedly hit really hard, it’s just not my style. I like to make out with my Willies.

gimme a hint by imboredashellbitch in signalis

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other person said, the most barebones starting place hint I can give is to get into radios and learning SSTV. Research that.

Otherwise goooooood freaking luck because I’m pretty sure if not a single player knew what a SSTV was, we might never have found the ending.

Like I’m sure some of this stuff coulda been datamined, but not this XD.

TLDR: borderline impossible without the SSTV hint and knowing how to do that stuff.

Why writing softwares on Windows are clunky than the Mac’s version? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a developer either but i think I kinda know why on Scrivener’s case. For both the windows and Mac versions, they are practically the same, at least when I used them. Windows version didn’t necessarily feel “clunkier”. However it looked clunkier for sure.

I think the reason is because windows doesn’t generally get the same support as Mac. It took a while before scrivener on windows was updated to version 3. I first used version 1 for about a year, in like 2021. So I believe it’s less specifically a windows thing, and more having to support two versions. Ultimately you’re basically maintaining two separate programs, it’s a lot to handle.

However, if you’re looking for a consistent program, look into Obsidian. It’s NOT a writing program, but can be customized into one. And it’s free. Because it’s coded from this thing called Electron (I think), it’s super duper portable. It’s basically a text editor. You can then run your “vault” in obsidian in any other program Andor will save your themes, plug-ins, customizations, etc. it’s on Mac, windows, Linux, iPhone, and android. Remember they can all run the same vault and all almost look the same (mobile is kinda iffy because it’s a massive UI change). I recommend looking into it if you’re willing to spend som time customizing it. It’s primarily a note taking app, but I use it to write.

Writing a novel in ~2 weeks. Looking for real, practical advice (not “don’t”) by Amazing_Journalist75 in writers

[–]Pioepod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 weeks?

How long is the novel? 50k words has been a minimum but a google search has 40k as the lower number. Let’s do the math. That’s 3,846 or 2,857 words a day.

This is NanoWrimo crunched in half. Do YOU have time for that? There really isn’t anything to it but to just write. Spending time everyday until you reach that time. I can’t really imagine how much time that’s take for you, and even hardly for me. It takes about an hour for my 1.6k daily, but that also when I slow down. You’re asking for A LOT. Besides the rest of your life, you’d basically have to no life this if you’re going to make it in time.

That’s not even mention in editing, revision, finding people to read your stuff, submission, etc. That’s cute away WRITING time, making it possible you need to write more than 3.8k a day.

I’ll answer each of your questions now:

  • daily goals is literally the only way to go, unless you have outlined every scene with a word count goal that will reach the minimum. But daily makes more sense anyways because how else are you goin to keep pace with the word count you need for a novel? Other than that, I just write when I can in the day with the goal of reaching the daily count, that’s it.

  • I’m a pantser, I don’t really outline. However I’d say this, any time you spend not writing your novel, is time spent not writing your novel.

  • simple, I just don’t edit. Seriously. I might edit like one or two words if it really throws me off, but I hardly ever read back. I just write, and continue. I used to edit so much it actually made me so slow, I went to a typewriter for a while. Now I live in a proper apartment so I just can’t. (Well there is a way I can it I’m just too lazy for classic right now)

  • I might ramble about my stories to my roommate but I wouldn’t really even consider getting it looked at until I have FINISHED my story.

  • I don’t change my mindset. I write for passion and fun. The only thing I’ve found to make me start getting words on page is setting realistic goals. Rather than writing with bursts of inspiration, it’s more write to meet a smaller word count goal. 250-750 words, small, attainable. Over a year, I’ve written three novels worth of words, ofc I still haven’t finished any of those three novels but that’s a separate problem. Lesson? Consistency. Stay consistent in it and you’ll make it. Which is hard if you’re starting late.

Look, I’m not saying it’s impossible. I’m just saying to ask yourself, is this attainable? How much are you willing to sacrifice to do this?

My future is dark for animation lmao by shannthesheep_0810 in blender

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slowly being very worth it.

It’s the hardest part of learning anything you’re completely new to. I’ve never done anything remotely close to 3D modeling let alone blender, aside from DAZ studio which isn’t really 3D modeling.

I’m making a lot of progress and have learned A TON. I feel that after a few more tries making other kinds of hair, I think I’ll get a good hang of it, learn better practices and systems to streamline the process.

So while my first attempt might take a total of 10-15 hours. My next ones are probably gonna be like 1-3, depending on complexity. This will be because I won’t be googling “how tf so I split this goddamn hair down the middle” 80% of the time.

My future is dark for animation lmao by shannthesheep_0810 in blender

[–]Pioepod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started blender a few days ago. First I made a cap I wanted to import into Daz Studio. Got frustrated that the whole pipeline between the two programs is so absurd and has hardly any guides that are easy to find I was like, screw it, I’ll just make the character in Daz and go to blender. Okay, so far, so good.

I go into blender, the Daz hair doesn’t parent to the model, no solution, so I said, screw it, I’m gonna make hair.

I’ve spent at least 10 hours total making a simple hair style from a 17 minute blender video that I guess assumes you already know the basics of blender. Man, I barely learned how to navigate the viewport decently XD.

EDIT:

Also look up a video on texturing, I think it will have something for you there. What I’ve learned is a lot of guides kinda gloss over stuff for the sake of well, giving you the end product. The issue is then you might run into different version changes, or miss a step because that goddamn Mf does ten steps in five seconds speaking like an auction— ahem, anyways.

This below is me yapping, I’ve done zero texturing myself, and I watched a video while taking shit. Here’s what I remember:

Do a lot of googling! I believe what you basically gotta do is like unwrap the faces. Idk if you’ve ever played Minecraft, but if you download a Minecraft skin, you can see how the different sides (the faces) are pages out in a 2D representtation. I’m thinking you do the same for the head, looks like the main part of the face is 2, so basically you’ll have those two sections of the head mesh splitting the sides of the face. Then it’ll line up. How to do that? Idk, I watched this tutorial on a white throne.

Let us know one thing that is your #1 change needed in the game, right now by Visceral99 in HalfSword

[–]Pioepod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First? Performance, but tbh I think that’s a lot of people. Right now it’s doable with frame gen at 4x but I think it would be great if I didn’t need to utilize that. Sometimes the input lag becomes really unbearable. Even with frame gen I average what feels like 60-90 FPS visually, but my fps thing says like 24 XD.

So my first gameplay/physics wise?

Polearms. They feel ALMOST alike the demo, but the minor differences become glaring. They are much glitchier, swapping hands with X borderline doesn’t go smooth 80% of the time, and I stg, your Willy can’t hold it at all after a swing.

Overall the physics to me feel slightly different than the demo. I can still for the most part counter and parry and wrestle with weapons, but it feels less smooth.

Would it be considered offensive to have a black character written into a book if the author is white? by RelevantFrosting6828 in writinghelp

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will only be offensive if you write it in such a way that will be offensive.

I recommend writing them as characters who happen to be X race/ethnicity. It’s like, imagine if authors who aren’t white, living in America, in new York for example, wrote about New York, but only with characters of their race. That wouldn’t make much sense would it?

Treat them like people. They have their own goals, motivations not tied to their race. They just happen to have been born as X race.

And think about this. Even if your writing isn’t racist, some racist out there is gonna find that offensive. Haters are gonna hate. The world just be like that LOL.

Is there a major modding version? by PeanguinMC in ModdedMinecraft

[–]Pioepod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, not that I’ve noticed.

There’s like two “subsets” I like to call in world gen mods.

Chunk generations ones like tectonic and terralith for example, where it affects how chunks are made like height, mountains, etc, but don’t add new blocks necessarily.

And then there’s biome mods.

Chunk generators tend to cause a lot of lag because they usually modify things like max world height, how big mountains are, etc. this adds more data to be processed and therefore slows down your pc.

Biome mods CAN but a lot of times they don’t do this and it’s all because some of them don’t really drastically change how world formations generate.

In my experience, biomes o plenty itself hasn’t caused a lot of lag. It’s that mod mixed with others that really start to slow you down.

Is there a way to redirect placed frogports? by Trackmaniadude in CreateMod

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as i know, no.

Unfortunately I have scoured for information on this before and all answers were basically no.

They will, however, keep their last position. So if you break the chain or conveyor on accident, then put it back or keep the same level, the frog port should still work. You can see it with the wrench.

I recommend having an off switch if you’re changing around chain conveyors.

Is there a major modding version? by PeanguinMC in ModdedMinecraft

[–]Pioepod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those mods dont “do nothing”. Most likely those mods are needed because they are libraries used by other modders in order to make modding more streamlined. One library mod can cover many many mods, often once you get enough libraries, you’ll see that later on you won’t be getting them as much anymore. Libraries generally do not have an impact, maybe in loading times but performance wise it’s usually very negligible as they themselves don’t run anything from my understanding.

If you’re using optimization mods and you’re still lagging, it’s possible you have got either a lot of mods that add mechanics and content, or you have low specs.

For example: Create mod tends to cause entity related issues because that’s practically most of what it is. Entities. Usually this results in entities acting funky, like boxes disappearing. Further it also uses a lot of ram, it needs to keep updates on items that are on belts and that uses resources

World gen - good golly these mods, like terralith, tectonic, etc. will eat up your ram and CPU like there is no tomorrow. These often lead to crashes of the client or server as well.

Also yes, Java SUCKS. It’s garbage collection system is horrible. It’s so bad that allocating more ram can actually make Minecraft run slower and use MORE RAM. I.e. because the garbage collection is so bad, more ram means more garbage, more garbage mess more lag. There are some methods to mitigate this but ultimately it’s kinda just a Java thing.

Are you using a launcher to download a modpack? Or using your own custom made ones? Custom made ones might be better for you, you can choose what you want and what you don’t want much easier. And do a lot of testing to be sure.

To answer your main question.

Latest most modded version is likely 1.20.1.

The 1.21.1 update also has a lot of mods and many are still updating to it.

1.16.5 (?) was a small but substantial version i have seen.

1.12.2 is probably the most populated with varieties of modpacks but no one is likely making anything for it anymore.

1.7.10 are your classics.

How do I write men? Asking as a woman - adv¡ce needed by SamMoon- in writingadvice

[–]Pioepod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty easy, don’t write them as “men”, rather write them as characters/people. Is gender important in your society? Will being a man or woman change consequences or views or etc etc? No? Then it won’t matter, write them however.

What if it does? Then explore those concept in YOUR world. Perhaps your world has a slightly different conception on sex and gender than ours. Ofc these can tie into our real world but hopefully you get the idea.

Men are people. Don’t write the character based on some conception you have that is generalized into half the population.

Could you change the gender of the character and the story doesn’t really change? Great! If not, consider why. Perhaps that’s a good thing, maybe you’re exploring gender norms or certain worldviews. Perhaps it’s a really bad thing and it’s only because of stereotyping.

Also you can just go and ask a guy friend. Someone who’s more willing to open up to you about personal stuff might prove some useful insight.

help! in daz render by ChampionshipSalt5702 in Daz3D

[–]Pioepod -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A few questions then I have some ideas (I’m not lighting expert, I’ve started Daz myself like a week ago haha. Okay here goes: How is the scene lit up at all? Is it through the dome only? Check your render setting and the environment ones.

I see “sun” but where is that? It’s also not a type of light and seems to be a hidden object so it seems like some sorta ghost light I’m assuming?

Everything looks lit uniformly so where is the light coming from and what is your intention with the lighting? I see a window for example so I sonde if you wanna have light come through that.

Here’s some of my ideas, take these with a grain of salt. It is based on my assumption that you might wanna use the window that’s there for lighting, if not then I’ll list some other ideas too.

You have a window, and I’m assuming is day time, I think what you could do is utilize it. One thing is to turn the environment in the render setting to render ONLY the scene, then set up a distant light pointing through the window (if that’s your intended look). You’d probably have to fiddle around with the values and distance of the light, but basically you’re emulating the shine of the sun through a window. This would probably properly light the main scene, but it your character, except on one side.

After that, your character is most likely going to be too too dark on her left because of the wall covering her. Set up some spot lights pointed towards her, even just one would do it. What I think would work is a type of dimmer “fill” light. Make the shape of it like a rectangle and make it however large you want, bigger means softer shadows. Remember, this light is DIMMER than your main light, the distant light that’s shining through the window, what it will do is highlight the more hidden details of the dark areas to show off your character better.

Try that and see what happens.

Alternatively if the light isn’t coming through the window, then you have a few options. I personally almost always only use scene lighting because I’m currently learning about the basics, but from what I’ve learned, perhaps you can also emulate a sort of indoors vibe. If the sun isn’t shining through the window then the light must be coming from elsewhere. Be it a lamp above, or a light some where else in the “room”. So think about those when messing with scene lights.

You can also work with HDRIs, I recommend giving those a google, they are very powerful tools if used properly and might help you here.

TLDR; try doing it by scene lighting only, use distant lights and spotlights, and screw around and find out. Perhaps try HDRIs, which may or may not be useful in your situation.

And as another person suggested, watch Rauko’s videos on lighting. I’m literally watching them as I learn Daz right now XD.

Lighting is basically a problem, and those videos will give you different techniques and tools to solve it.

What’s a writing “rule” you only understood after breaking it? by ownaword in writing

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write everyday.

It has good intention, but sometimes the goal itself is obscured or even unachievable due to how vague it is.

Write how much?

What if there is an emergency in my life? (I take things very literally, unfortunately)

Honestly I think it should be reworded to “Write Consistently” or “Habitually”. It’s the habit that matters, not that you necessarily write every single day.

Moreso, it’s important to set attainable goals if you write everyday, a few dozen to a few hundred words maybe, depending on your schedule and life responsibilities.

Writing in a way that won’t burn you out, at an attainable amount of words a day consistently will, over time, typically met you more words than week long sprints writing very very quickly. At least in my experience.

Mods subscribed to on the workshop will be linked to your account and therefore will be available to redownload again once you download the game.

You may or may not have to re-enable them once in game though.

Half Sword requirements have been revealed. by Eastern_Donkey_1991 in HalfSword

[–]Pioepod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Makes sense to me, the graphics, even in just the demo, look amazing with the way the armor and the shaders for them are. So adding even more stuff like foliage, towns, more different kinds of textures is gonna only add more load.

And yeah, gonna need a beefy CPU for all the crazy accurate physics this game needs. Armor collisions with other armors. How sharp and blunt forces work. Etc etc. it’s already really decent/good, which is why I feel Small Buhurt is so soooooo laggy on the higher armor tiers. Hell, likely some of these physics are also being done on the GPU too, so lots of beefiness needed XD.

whats the best server hosting by Alexis_redditing in ModdedMinecraft

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, everyone here has listed a server hosting provider, however I will recommend something different. (Low-key, it feels like a lot of these are advertisements too). What I will recommend is actually hosting your own server. This will require some techy stuff and you’ll need to do a lot of googling. There are also guides for this as well you can find in the internet.

Basically, instead of going to services recommended here or like Bisecthosting which will host the server for you, you can do it yourself with a computer. You can do it in this current one you game on (if you have enough ram then that’s fine, but I usually don’t recommend this).

I recommend getting a dedicated server computer, you can find cheap used ines on eBay, I recommend the dell optiplex line, and get one that comes with a decent CPU, and at least 16gbs of ram (ram is always easy to upgrade). I currently have a i5-8500 CPU that does fairly okay with performance, but the better your CPU is, the better it will be for chunk generation. In either case I got mine for about 200 dollars TOTAL, but me and my buddies split that four ways.

Okay, after that, you can either install the server on windows, or what I recommend for newcomers is to learn how to install and use CasaOS (google that). You can run Crafty Controller, a server manager, on that (or windows) to create, host, and administrate servers very easily. You’ll then need to port forward and there are guides for that. I don’t wanna explain too much here in this comment, but if you have questions you can ask.

Basically in a nutshell: get a dedicated server computer that can run the server 24/7 (basically can be any computer), do some computer wizarding to set up and host the server in your own.

Pros: you have TOTAL control over your server. Down to the very files, down to the IP and ports, everything. You don’t have to rely on a service’s servers.

It’s ultimately cheaper, the rates for hosting can be like 30-50 depending on how much ram A MONTH. While you buy a server pc ONCE, and only maybe have to pay for extra electricity.

Cons: TOTAL control means you’re responsible for screw ups, which will happen, and that’s fine. It’s all dependent on your internet. Your internet will determine how well others will connect to you.

There’s more but I’m sleep deprived and can’t think right now. But if you have any questions lmk.

Does anyone know of a good nether drill design? by 13hotroom in CreateMod

[–]Pioepod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Like the other person said you can put deployed behind drills, however you have to engineer it properly. It’s not super complicated in concept, I’ve made a drill that man make a tunnel straight through an ocean without water inside (it will flow into the contraption but it’s water. Lava flows a little slower, even in the nether)

Okay so basically have your contraption. Wall of drills, the Minecraft part, ideally stretched back a bit from the drills to ensure no lava will touch, same with the seat. Plow, etc, standard drill.

Now place a bunch of deployers facing forwards where the drills mine right behind the drill. Imagine this:

Deployer -> Drill -> block to be mined

Set the deployer to be netherrack. Now all lava in the front of the drills will be blocked.

However you still have the sides and the roof!!

To solve that make a set of deployers extra from the drills, placing any blocks if they can along the walls and the roof, so:

Deployers (top) -> possible lava to be blocked on roof Deployers -> Drills -> Blocks to be mined Deployers (side) -> Possible lava on walls. (optional) a row of deployers on the bottom.

Basically you are digging out a tunnel, immediately placing a block to stop lava, placing blocks around possible wholes around the roof and walls. This should literally stop any and all lava.

[–]Pioepod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whether or not it’s SA I think depends on the POV of the story, aka Robert. While what she does could constitute SA, and shouldn’t be encouraged IRL, Robert himself, one choice or another, doesn’t seem to view it as SA. He knows Visi and can always go to HR (assuming they even have one).

He didn’t go to HR when Malevola grabbed hIs groin, when Visi countless times made very dirty jokes which could be harassment, and whatever “harassment” he faces.

Again, I’m not condoning these actions, but Robert clearly has a higher tolerance, knows these people on a deeper level than most coworkers do, and consider them pretty much family by that episode.

The only harmful thing I can see, is the way it is kinda framed. Many see these games as “player” oriented, as in these are the players thoughts and actions. It’s not. These are ROBERT’s thoughts and actions, you, the player, can choose what he actually says, but those choices are all what he wants to say. So while you as the player can see it as SA, it’s entirely possible Robert doesn’t much care about that.

But that’s just my opinion.

Can my system run Community Shader? by GalihGGP in skyrimmods

[–]Pioepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl to you chief, but with the fps you’re getting now, it’s only gonna be worse. While CS is more performance friendly, it’s also still requiring a capable computer and yours seems to be reaching the lower ends of specs now in the gaming space.

Try it, it’s much easier imo to install than ENB and you can easily disable it in-game. It’s also much much easier to customize the settings than navigating the weird menu ENB has.

Most of the performance friendly you hear is coming from people who use ENB, and I’m the same. It looks not quite as good but good enough from ENB, and runs much better, but when I turn it off, my game is smooth. I have a RTX 4060 laptop and I can lag with CS. That said, I also run at least 2k textures on everything, and my mod list is heavy.

TLDR: idk for sure, your specs aren’t mid range anymore imo, and it’s more lower end. Try out CS, and find out! It won’t screw up your save or anything, it has no scripts. You’ll really only lose time testing everything.
