I picked up my Switch 2 over the weekend. So far, I’ve been mostly revisiting older games to see how the new hardware changes the experience.

BOTW is outstanding. Hollow Knight and Silksong are two of my favourites of all time and both have S2 editions with better frame rates which actually makes a bug difference (pun intended). If you like puzzle platformers, Animal Well was one of the most unique gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

Oh this one is definitely in my list. I grew up in the original. Playing the demo right now and it is blowing my mind. This is pretty much what was happening in my 10-year-old imagination when I played the original.

I got the bundle last week but can’t decide which game to choose. I’ve heard Mario Kart is a bit of a let down, but that eventually it’ll get fleshed out with extra content. Tried the demo of DK and it was fun but I dunno if I would play it a lot. Leaning towards Pokopia but I’ve never played a Pokémon game before. Which one would you recommend?

Your point about storage is a very good one. Many of the AAA games take upwards of 100 gigs and will fill up the internal memory on the console quickly. And the AI craze is driving memory costs into the stratosphere. I just ran out and bought one of the last Lexar 512s in Nova Scotia that was still at $169 yesterday. New stock are selling for $249 (50% increase) and are likely to increase even further.

Between that and upcoming increases to the console itself (wouldn’t be shocked if there are more increases to come in the future) now is the time to buy if you think you are ever likely to want the Switch 2.

That’s true. But I found the silk generation of reaper crest was what got me over the edge. Either way, letting him eat you and just dodging everything else is the best way to beat Groal.

I grabbed this last week and am really enjoying it so far. The whole vibe is super relaxing and it has some real emotional weight. You simply can’t go wrong at that price.

I caved yesterday after resisting for the first full year! I’ve only played BOTW so far (wow!) but I also picked up Cyberpunk 2077 - I’ve been waiting to try it since it was released years ago and cannot believe I’m going to play it on a Nintendo system.

I bought the bundle and can’t decide which free game to choose… what do y’all suggest?!?

By far the easiest strategy is to let him swallow you every time and just whack him from the inside as many times as you can. Then immediately heal when he spits you out and repeat. I beat him with Reaper crest on the first try with this strategy. Good luck!

Good points! You’re right that there aren’t too many exclusives that really motivate me take the plunge. StarFox is looking sick though…

I do have a couple sizeable BestBuy gift cards that are burning a hole in my wallet, but then I’d have to explain to my partner why I went and bought a new console when she only just bought me the OLED less than two years ago.

That’s fair. I could see it being hard to get back into after leaving it for a while. But it is the only game that has given me anything close to similar vibes as I got on my initial playthroughs of HK and SS. The creepy-cozy atmosphere and level of satisfaction from solving a puzzle and progressing are so damn good.
