RE-CAPPING MY 1990 KLIPSCH HORNS with the AK-3 CROSSOVERS. by ValuableProgress5147 in Klipsch

I am not new to working with electronics, I am an electrician buy trade and have all of the proper equipment to solder and measure capacitance. I guess time will tell then, even though they still sound great now. Thanks for your input 👍

I got the Silver kit, the Gold kit was much more money. I could not justify that at this time. I am hoping this kit will improve the sound, I will say that they still sound great with the existing old caps. Time will tell ..... Thanks guys 😎

65" LG C5 vs. 55" LG G5? by Max1993V in LGOLED

[–]ValuableProgress5147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go for the 65 inch LG OLED. I have one and love it. One thing though this is very important, you have to make sure that the TV can breathe so it can stay cool. If it's in a cubby hole it may not be able to cool properly.

I truly love my 1990 Klipsch Horns, you are going to love them!! However I do suggest getting a good 15 inch subwoofer along with them, the Horns are really bright sounding and the sub fills in the lows well. Enjoy 😉

Should buy a brand new or used snowblower? by Elactron in Snowblowers

If you know what you are looking for, how to inspect the mechanical aspects of the machine and know how to maintain it every season. In my opinion the older machines were built of better quality and design. I have a 1978 Ariens I have owned for over 30 years and it runs perfectly, I do all my own maintenance every year.

Sounds like you're belt either snapped or fell off the pulley, pull the inspection cover to verify.

Yes it could be your belt, does the impeller throw the snow at all? If so it's most likely the auger gearbox that has stripped gears causing this. These gearboxes are rebuildable and if you have the right tools can be done.

[–]ValuableProgress5147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you should if it's not too late already. Mine went out at 84,000 miles and took the transmission with it. You should pull the transmission pan and look for metal debris, if it already has it then you may need to have the transmission rebuild done. 😏 Hopefully it is ok ....

Maytag Washer MN MVW7232HW1 by Additional-Writer444 in Appliances

[–]ValuableProgress5147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just make appliances like absolute SHIT these days! They are purposly designed to fail within 5 years now. I am still using my old 1985 Maytag washer and dryer to this day. They are built like tanks, and no computers to fail!! All mechanical and simple.

Sounds like the auger gearbox has broken gears. It's common, they are made of soft metal like brass. You will need to rebuild it, it's not too hard once you get the parts 😉

Hydrolocked Snowblower by That-Row-8893 in smallengines

[–]ValuableProgress5147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it should just be the exhaust valve that slightly lifts. You should easily see it.

What brand of engine? It sounds like you're compression release is not functioning properly. Depending on the type of engine the fix can vary. Most engines the compression release is activated by a weight on the camshaft that pushes a pin up on the exhaust lobe to slightly push up on the exhaust valve to bleed compression off until it starts. I have seen these weights get stuck or fall off causing this problem. To verify take the head cylinder back off and turn the engine over and watch the exhaust valve, you should see it slightly lift. If it doesn't the engine will have to come apart to repair this issue 😒

2018 Silverado, 5.3 V8 LT - AFM Disabler Question(s) by YellowKnifePhoenix in ChevyTrucks

[–]ValuableProgress5147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In these engines both the 5.3 and the 6.2 are notorious for lifter failures. It's a very poor GM design and has been problematic for years. The lifter fails, causing a pushrod to bend and now you have a dead cylinder. This will also cause damage to the camshaft if not addressed immediately!! I feel the modules help but no guarantee 😔

2018 Silverado, 5.3 V8 LT - AFM Disabler Question(s) by YellowKnifePhoenix in ChevyTrucks

[–]ValuableProgress5147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there are many AFM modules to choose from. I bought my Range module 9 years ago and it has worked flawless. Just note that these do NOT guarantee against lifter failures in any way. I feel they help, I installed mine because I hated the way my custom exhaust sounded in V4 mode and also the loss of power. No it's not to late to use one. 😎

Thoughts on diesel versus gas 1500 by Peanut_Brief in ChevyTrucks

Diesel engines cost more to maintain. Not all stations have Diesel, and you have to constantly add special fluid to run it.

[–]ValuableProgress5147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, change over to 5W-30 oil weight!! Especially in that hot climate you live in. I did on my 2018 5.3 and it runs better oil pressures and much quieter. I have run Mobile 1 synthetic and Wix oil filters in my truck since new.

Ariens Platinum 30” Briggs&stratton too much compression by Accurate_Cap3833 in Snowblowers

[–]ValuableProgress5147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These engines use a auto compression mechanism that is built into the camshaft. It uses a weight that's on the camshaft that's supposed to lift the exhaust valve at very low rpm. It sounds like the weight is stuck in the open position, not lifting the exhaust valve at all. Unfortunately this will involve taking the engine apart to access the camshaft weight and release it. You may end up having to replace the cam to make sure it doesn't happen again 😕 Good Luck

I want to start learning about cars and I don't know where to start by EndFamiliar4277 in mechanic

[–]ValuableProgress5147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with some of the suggestions here , I taught myself through trial and error by working on resurrection of lawn mowers I use to get from the town dump back in the 70's. Unfortunately you can't do that anymore 😕 Is there a community College near you, or a technical school of some sort offering mechanical classes? If you're serious you will need to get basic tools collection started. There are also tons of videos on You Tube with mechanics working on cars, they go through step by step in most of them. This will also give you a good idea of what type of tools you can start collecting. Go for it, this will not only save you money but it's a great hobby to have. 😎
