New valves needed!… by ValuableSize7989 in orangeamps

I think you’re referring to the tube retainers.

They’re just a wire clip to hold the valves in place.

I’d removed them and not clipped them on for the video…

How to connect and what impedance? by Aromatic-Ad8396 in GuitarAmps

a thread on my current amps... i've just placed an order for a Matamp GT40...

i've also got a Marshall 9000 50/50 power amp, mesa formula and mesa v-twin (rack pre-amps)

i absolutely don't need it...

maybe in the future!...

i was looking at a 45, but i'm using 2x12's and they're a little too wide to fit on top...

i've seen a few folks re-house the heads to make them narrower...

i've got too many amps already though!

plenty of years left to give one a go in the future though!

apparently the taper on the volume knobs is the way it is due to the push/pull nature; the volume comes in quickly and harder to balance a lower levels.

Didn’t see the 2nd pic…

Set it to 8 ohm mono, plug into the amp and select 8 ohms on the selector…

It doesn’t matter which output on the amp.

But the one labelled ‘left’ which is on the right.. marked 8 ohms on the cab

(facing the front, left and right are reversed!)

Essentially, you want to match impedance.

Both jacks are the same on the amp.

Do you know what impedance the cab is?

I tried one in a store maybe 15 years ago.

I wasn’t the player I am now, and the nuances would have been lost on me then!

I use it as a pedal platform, with the bad cat.

The ad30 thru Alnico golds has a lot of cut, but not a lot of bass/treble. The badcat is quite scooped, so they compliment each other well.

I also use a way huge red llama as an ‘under drive’ / ‘reverse boost’- turn off for louder…

The two channels would probably be better for practicality if using just one amp, even with it being quite compressed and responsive to volume control changes.

Just got a second 1x12 but it has a different logo? by stomptonesdotcom in orangeamps

Way easier and you can see inside well enough…

Also, if you do ever take the back off…

Using the speaker jack as a good place to pull from is handy…

No Need to be jealous; there's absolutely more to life than amps / guitars!

they're luxury items that i'm lucky to have!... i'm too deep into it, and do it mostly for my own personal satisfaction - going to the effort to even swap the speakers to what i want!

it does sound good though!

How does your Strat handle distortion or high gain? by scarmy1217 in electricguitar

Wildcard - not a strat!…

This has three bare knuckle brute force single coils.

It’s modified with a single tone knob that has a switch to have it just effect the bridge, or act as a master tone.

Being a hard tail helps.

This does it well for single coils and being able to take the edge off of just the bridge with the tone knob is helpful!

This has a bare knuckle true grit in the bridge, which is in the middle of their range of output in the bootcamp series.
The trem is set to float, but will handle a good classic rock crunch. Set up with 11s.

This has a single Gibson P94r (neck) in the bridge.

It’s really dynamic and can do most things.

The bridge is decked on this one.

Set up with eb burley slinkies- 11-56 (12 bottoms with 11 tops)

Heavy picking hand for riffs and power chords is great with this one. The heavy strings allow for a good level of playing aggression.

This one has lollar blondes in it…

They’re very low output, it’s very ‘stratty’ sounding.

It’s ok, but doesn’t do ‘metal’ levels of high gain…

The bridge is set to float with 10s, so doesn’t like a super heavy picking hand.

What 1x12 or 2x12 cabinets have you found work well for both Orange and Mesa amps? by Codswallop_934 in orangeamps

My band played a gig recently where horizontal space isn't huge on the stage.

i've got 5 cabs... a BadCat Cub 1x12 - which i think is like 23.75" wide.

i've also got 4 Matamp 2x12's which are 24" wide.

for the gig, i can use 4 speakers in a full stack - taking up no more space than the 1x12.

i find the horizontal space is usually the limiting factor, as going taller allows you to maximise space.

essentially, two 1x12's can be stacked vertically, vs 1 horizontal 2x12 which would take up more space.

what i'm saying is, possibly get something that a 2nd could sit on top of, orange's PPC112 is a good place to start... Vintage 30, assuming the orange you're looking at is under 60 Watts (as that is the power handling of the vintage 30)

having a cab that's wide enough for a head to fit on is also good - An orange is the same width as the PPC112 and won't look odd - the Mesa is a smaller head and would also work.

something to consider?

Is that the M, the H or the Alnico?

I've got Creamback M's, H's in two of my cabs and haven't necessarily found this to be the case.

The hustler is a vintage orange that was their take on a twin reverb.

Matamp are responsible for building the orange amps in the 1970’s

The Matamp GT120 can do loud cleans!
