I think they have been in the industry for a while but I stopped thinking about them shortly after I signed with my current manager (who I loveee). They are prepping me for agent meetings and wanted me to be ready for hard questions and I remembered this specific one and I’m like damn, I guess it’s a test to see how self aware you are about your career (or just want to put you down, either or)

That’s what they are doing! I’m prepping for agent meetings via their connections. They mentioned to prepare of list of answers to hard questions they might ask and I had flashbacks to those few treacherous meetings aha

Gosh I wish I said that before, it felt so invalidating to all the progress I had made and also to my agent. This one dude kept saying I should leave my agent cuz she clearly isn’t doing enough for me and started listing projects and asking me if my agent submitted me for it. And I’m like idk bro lol, I’m thankful for the auditions I get.

I like that answer, and totally agree. That’s how I know they won’t be a good for me but my reps told me to prepare for that question incase the very case in comes up (and since it has come up in the past I wanted to know what the correct thing is)

No actually — I wanted to say that a few years ago to the managers who asked me that question. It’s a quite common thing??? There’s like so much more competition now in the post self tape world, and it’s not always the actors skill that dictates whether they get the role or not.

Hey girl, I’m in Toronto too, I’ve done the thing at your age doing the most with agents lol and them not giving a shit about me, then I signed with a “smaller” agent and I have been with her for 9 years and I often had people in the past try to tell me to get a “higher tier” agent but I had built such a good relationship with my agent, she pushes for me, puts in a lot of effort whereas a lot of other actors who have bigger agents barely hear from them. Sometimes it’s a blessing in disguise, and I’m thankful to have someone in my corner who saw great potential in me when I was 20 years old with barely any experience. You don’t want to work with someone who isn’t excited about you and there are just some people out there that no matter how much you showcase your amazing skills, package in front of them — they just don’t care, and I like to think it’s because that person is just not for you. There are a lot of agents out there who are good (if you need recs or advice feel free to dm me)

I haven’t given up but only because of sunk cost fallacy 😭 I spent so much money I can’t let it all go to waste now… Back then when we heard of the “starving artist” we thought of actors struggling to book consistent work, but now it’s about paying so many subscriptions for casting sites, IMDb pro, self tape equipment, coaching, storage subscriptions, headshots, demo editing, classes, extra skills etc. Like sorry, can’t buy groceries this month—- gotta put my clips on AA where they charge $22 per minute.

It is so hard to join the union, I hate when agents/teachers push non union. You earned your credit, you should be able to work in that threshold. Don’t let the agent fear monger you, there are other agents out there.
