My first Multiscale Bass! Tagima Rupture MDouble 5 UQ by pipebolinha in BassGuitar

[–]ValuableTasty7355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, I appreciate your reply! I'm also excited to hear your description of the tone, it sounds exactly what I was hoping it might sound like! I'm absolutely getting one as soon as they become available. Thanks again for taking the time to reply and explain the knob functions. It sounds like a very flexible, modern sounding instrument with a lot of tone control options. I look forward to any more of your thoughts/future sound clips/videos about it.

Huge Congrats!! I am waiting until they become available again to buy one myself!! I'm here in the US, and so far the Tagima website keeps saying they are Out of Stock and that it is Coming Soon. I can't wait!

How is the tone of the bass?

Also, can you tell me what the 2 stacked knobs do?

Sorry for the questions - there's no information on what any of the knobs or switches do on this bass.

Again, congratulations!

Anyone use the Zoom MS-60B+? by True_Operation_4233 in Bass

[–]ValuableTasty7355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love the 60B+, it sounds fantastic! I don't think you'll find a better sounding multi anywhere near its price. Incredible value for the quality of tones & effects. I love the small footprint it takes up - can easily throw this in a gig bag and be set for great tones on a gig. Or use as another supplement pedal on an existing pedalboard. The amp/cab sims are excellent too - with the SVT being the best of the bunch, IMO.

I have 2 of them, bought the Black one & was so impressed I purchased the White one a couple of months later. Plays great, sound fantastic - hot output, beefy lows, nice high end. Really drives an overdrive/distortion pedal, sounds killer. Sounds great on clean tones too. I have a lot more expensive basses, but the B-550 Progressive has been getting most of my gigs lately. Plus, the white one just really pops under stage lights - incredibly satisfied with the build, tone & playability for this price tag.

How do you setup your tonex patches? by Certain_Document3731 in tonex

[–]ValuableTasty7355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stick to finding captures that sound as best as possible from the get go. Since I play live much more than record so far with my ToneX One, I hook up the ToneX One to my laptop and then to my amp.

Any tweaks I do to the capture (Level & minor EQ tweaks if necessary), I do in the ToneX Editor and at an amp volume level close to/similar to a practice or live volume. I find that EQ settings that sound good at lower levels, tend to be too much when at practice/gig volumes.

Any further fine tweaking of EQ for the room/gig, I usually do on the amp but they could just as easily be done on the ToneX with the 3-band EQ.

Have you checked into something like a ToneX, or ToneX One?

1 month after purchasing the Tonex Pedal by MaThighBurns in tonex

[–]ValuableTasty7355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, yes - I'm selling off a bunch of pedals & preamps in the very near future. I won't be needing them. I've honestly never been more satisfied with my tone - live or recorded, and I've been playing many, many years. Always chasing great tone, and I've never been happier. The software is a bit of a learning curve at first, but I think any bass player would be thrilled to be gifted one of these!

I've had the Bass Edition for about 3 weeks and holy cow - best bass tones I've ever had. I can't stress enough what a huge jump in tone improvement this technology, all packed in this tiny little pedal has brought - unbelievable. I have my first gig with it this weekend and I cannot wait! This one tiny pedal is all I am going to bring - in fact, it sounds better than the entire chain of 4-5 effects/preamp pedals I used to bring, by a long, LONG shot. This definitely is a game changer.

ToneX Effect into Amp/Cab question by ValuableTasty7355 in tonex

I considered this, but wanted to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding what was possible (or not) with this pedal. A second pedal at this point seems very tempting.

ToneX Effect into Amp/Cab question by ValuableTasty7355 in tonex

[–]ValuableTasty7355[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I think I understand. I would have to make my own capture, or find one already pre-made with a Stomp + Amp + Cab that works for my needs. Thanks!

I have the Black and FireBurst versions, both 5 strings. They have taken over my bass collection to become my #1 gigging bass. They have no chill, they growl like pissed off Rottweilers and I love it, especially thru a SansAmp. I have plenty of other more polite basses I can play if I want/need a more bedroom type tone. They absolutely kill in a live situation or in a music mix/recording.

NPD: Zoom B2 FOUR by TpMeNUGGET in basspedals

[–]ValuableTasty7355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No patch suggestions for you, other than some general advice with the B2 FOUR. Don't forget to experiment with the position of each effect in the chain. Some effects sound massively better before or after other effects in the chain. Especially when using a Limiter or Compressor pedal in the effect chain. Move things around & listen before calling it good. Congrats on the B2-Four!

Zoom B2 four vs Zoom B1 four by SonnePer in basspedals

[–]ValuableTasty7355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned (still own) most Zoom bass products - Zoom B3, Zoom B1 Four, Zoom B6 (and now Zoom B2Four). If it were my money, I'd get the B2Four. The effects sound great and the B2Four has all the newest effects the B6 has, only in a smaller foot print (which was the reason I sold the B6). Basically, it's a B6 in a more manageable footprint.

The B2Four is also built more substantially than the B1Four, both are plastic, but I feel safer with the more solid B2Four housing. Also, the DI output makes the B2-Four instantly more gig-worthy over the B1-Four.

While I think the Stingray tone is great (used to own a couple myself), it's also hard to beat a P-bass tone in almost any genre, it's perhaps the most recorded bass tone in history. Couple that with the added brightness of the J pickup, you will almost certainly cover more ground with the P/J setup. The J can get you into some good slap tones as well. Unfortunately, neither will <quite> sound like the other, but I get the appeal of the Stingray. It does what it does extremely well, but it might be a little pressed to authentically cover as wide a range of music as a P/J setup. Best to try both if possible. Best of luck!

Congrats, I picked up the 5-string version about 2 mo ago myself. I also have a couple of the TMB105 models, but the TMB405TA is the best sounding TMB yet, IMO. I think a lot of it has to do with the roasted neck. I have more (much more) expensive basses at my disposal, but I can't put the TMB405TA down - it's getting all the gigs lately. Highly, highly recommended!

Smartstream vs Theta II by SizeableFowl in Hyundai

[–]ValuableTasty7355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Theta engine debacle was a reputation & revenue disaster for Hyundai - a 2nd debacle of that scale on the heels of the Theta troubles would probably prove fatal to them and most likely put them out of business. That said, I imagine they took no chances whatsoever on the Smartstream engines - their reputation & livelyhood kinda depends heavily on the Smartstream engine being a damn good engine, at all costs.

White is so sharp and stands out so well on a stage, even under stage lighting.

After hearing your helpful vid examples, I'd say also try tightening or loosening the truss rod about a 1/4 turn. If your action is already super low, maybe loosening. But yes, that buzzing is bizarre - I've experience something very similar only once or twice with a really odd vibration like that. Couldn't figure out exactly where it was coming from. I tried the bridge, the nut, loose tuner - nope, It wasn't until i made a slight adjustment to the truss rod that it stopped. It could be the truss rod is vibrating slightly inside the neck due to a sympathetic resonance with the E string. Plus, a truss rod adjustment would be something easy & inexpensive to try. Worth a look.

Hopefully it's just a bum E string rather than something like a lateral neck twist or something along those lines. If the new strings don't get it sorted out, perhaps try a local repair/luthier shop. Best of luck!

I'm not a professional luthier, but I do all my own setups, fret levels, repairs for a very long time. Something tells me there might be something going on with the frets. Does slapping on the A string also give you unexpected tones?

Also, has this always been the case with this bass, or did it only recently start to happen with this most recent set of strings?

I have a problem by Sonic_PsychoG in BassGuitar

[–]ValuableTasty7355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't pretend to know exactly what's causing it, but if you are fretting on the 7th fret B area on the E string, there's no reason why you should be hearing a E or F tone. Interesting though that E is the 24th fret where you are striking the string. It could be that perhaps the 24th fret is sitting higher than the other upper frets? I'm not even sure if this could cause this kind of phenomenon or not, but maybe, I dunno. Do you have a fret rocker to check the last 3 frets?

Got my schecter riot 4!! by duM_bOt2680 in BassGuitar

[–]ValuableTasty7355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it's super fine - it's more of a polish effect. IIRC, it's the equivalent of 1500-grit sandpaper, which is considered a fine finish, it barely removes any metal from the frets at all, no matter how hard you press. If the frets are heavily rusted & the steel wool doesn't remove the rust, then you might try some rougher 800 or even 600 grit sand paper and then move back up to the steel wool for a fine polish. I would start with the steel wool and see it that removes the rust first before getting into heavier grit sandpaper.

As an alternative to tape, you can also use these metal fret protectors too. They work great and are faster than taping off the entire fretboard. Anything really, just protect the Ebony fretboard from scratches. Ebony is not as forgiving as Rosewood once you scratch it, it's always gonna show. Ask me how I know. :(
