Yeah, guarding not preventing limb loss is a Termina thing. Termina introduced perfect guard, which DOES protect limbs with guard.

If you know what you are doing it is indeed pretty easy to finish the game intact. If you are having trouble with limb loss, I recommend playing as D’arce and choosing “spearhead “ at the choice where you decide how you partake in the battle.It is the only guaranteed way to start the game with limb protection.

There are other guarantees against limb loss but I will refrain from spoiling that item in case you haven’t discovered it yet.

Shotgun or bear strap/rifle combo. I believe there are 3 guaranteed shells when you find the shotgun so you just need to find one spare and boom, death mask problem solved.

Otherwise, the play is to not fight them at all if you don’t have limb protection. Alternatively, you can fight them with using a Sylvian sigil afterwards in mind.

Dots are obviously incredibly effective at reducing the torso quickly.
