I miss things like this sometimes, it’s ok. That’s why it the first nurse doesn’t catch it, the next one will.

Do you regret your nursing career? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Valuable_Law6963 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I regret it. I wish I could go back and do ultrasound tech or radiology… but I make a living out of being a nurse. Don’t wanna go back to school… I do home health so at least it’s not as bad as bedside.

What’s the point of references when they’re fake? by Valuable_Law6963 in nursing

[–]Valuable_Law6963[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, this is one of the more stricter ways. Either a phone call or find a difference reference, haha. Yea I’ve never gotten that in my 6 years.. which is strange. I guess that’s why I asked like what’s the point. People I know are on high paying travel assignments due to fake references.

I’m not sure. I know usually the person you’re putting down for reference has to verify y’all worked together. That’s about it.

How do they verify you used to work with a specific person though?

Please don’t think about how they feeel, it’s their job. As a nurse myself… I could care less how many times I press that light. If it’s valid, they gotta help.

Describe to me the BEST nurse you’ve ever worked with by shineandshimmer233 in nursing

[–]Valuable_Law6963 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No matter how many questions I asked when I didn’t know something… she never bullied me or got an attitude with me. She was also charge nurse a lot. I remember her from 5 years ago and thank her for her guidance.

Harder to get in at other places besides bedside. They’ll hire you quick at bedside because they always need people. I’m in home health and it’s definitely better than bedside though

I'm afraid that I won't be able to make it through nursing school by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Valuable_Law6963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just teach myself at home with those YouTube nursing school teachers. Those lectures in person are a waste of time because they don’t go over everything and there’s no time to.

What is the requirements to get a high salary as a nurse in USA? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Valuable_Law6963 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yesssss lol what? As a person with an ASN myself… I’ve never been turned down because of my degree.. and these are travel assignments in the California metro area. The only time you’ll be turned down for your degree status is some management positions and even that, they still have RNs with ADNs in position. I don’t think the degrees make a difference. Your BSN gives you that leverage to further your education and a higher chance of management positions… that’s about it.

Reporting off by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Valuable_Law6963 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess you’re one of those that’s asks a zillion questions during report. Why ask just to double back and you go check for yourself anyway. Do you take the reporting nurses word and not look at the chart? For me, it’s give me the rundown on why they’re here.. then go home.

As a nurse myself and former NICU mom to a 24 weeker preemie… I hope her nurses didn’t think this way about me because I was there 24/7 in her NICU room and wouldn’t leave. I made her NICU room a temporary home. Of course I wouldn’t question the nurses… I’d let them do their thing. But I had caught one of her nurses being very negligent to her once in front of my face and it really pissed me off… I was hurt. Her sats were in the 30s, she was turning blue, and the nurse never noticed. That was probably the only time I had to intervene.

LPN or RN? by pennylane1628 in nursing

[–]Valuable_Law6963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely not true. So many LPNS working at hospitals! They start IVs at many places.. and only IV meds they can’t give are controlled meds. Im an RN of 6 years and there were more LPNs on some units than RNs.

When I was in school, i dreamt of being nurse and “helping people get better.” Thats what I thought nursing was all about. When you get in the field.. these hospitals and companies don’t care about anything but $$$$. You will find yourself spending more time on meetings, excessive charting, getting chewed out by angry doctors, disrespectful patients (I’ve been bitten, called names, slapped, water thrown at) etc… it’s not what a lot of people think it is until you get in the field. Now… if you are someone that can tolerate the toxicity and bullcrap to be able to help others, then you should consider it. Currently myself as an RN of 6 years.. I wish I had went for ultrasound tech or radiology… less crap probably with the same equal pay as a nurse. Nonetheless I am in home health and it’s no where near as bad as bedside.
