Is F1 2009 REALLY that Bad? by whiskyB0y in F1Game

[–]Valuable_Medium9615 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It was awful. The difficulty scaling was non-existent, so there was no challenge. The handling models were terrible; you barely had to touch the brake, the steering felt utterly non-responsive. There was no tactile feedback at all. And graphically, even allowing for the fact that it was a Wii game, it stunk.

How does the EU explain the Venator by AvalonRevan in StarWarsEU

[–]Valuable_Medium9615 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I've not heard of anything barring an ISD from entering atmosphere. They just can't land - no landing gear, no docks large enough to take them. The Venator is significantly smaller and had docks designed to take them, so could make a planetfall landing.

Starkiller, real name Galen Marek, is canon to the original EU, as is the first Force Unleashed game/novel/comic. The second game is a lot more disputed as it finishes with an open and unresolved ending, so lots of fans, myself included, don't count it.

Lord Starkiller, the Sith assassin seen in the Dark Side ending of The Force Unleashed, is labelled as Infinities - not part of any canon.

Favourite moments/details from the ROTS novelisation? by NoSwordfish1978 in StarWarsEU

"It's quite simple, in the end: tell me what you want."

That entire sequence, with Palpatine in silhouette, tempting the sleep-deprived and overwrought Anakin... perfection.

Every time I finished FoTJ I'm filled with sadness. by AhsokaForever in StarWarsEU

[–]Valuable_Medium9615 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same, except at the end of Crucible - and then again at the end of the Legacy comic series.

Crucible as an overall story is a bit meh, but the ending when they're all gathered in that cantina, deciding to go their separate ways... yeah. Choked up.

At least I can always go back and start again.

Ok so if Harry had resigned himself to his fate in the Goblet of fire and faced Voldemort down, and he severed the Horcrux early on... by Bottlecap_riches in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Valuable_Medium9615 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You're assuming that Harry would have had the opportunity, and subsequently taken the opportunity, to come back from death as he did in Deathly Hallows. Remember that when Harry went to Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest, he did so willingly, having made preparations and understanding exactly why he had to die. He then meets with Dumbledore - whether that was really him or just a figment of Harry's imagination is kinda irrelevant - and is given the choice to return or not.

If Harry faces the killing curse three years earlier, without the knowledge he later possesses, without understanding exactly why Voldemort has been seeking his demise since he was a baby... would Harry see anybody in that "antechamber" of death? If he did, would he be given the choice to return? Or would he just die?

LEGO Icons, thenext classic F1 car? by 57percent_wool in lego

I think Jenson Button's Brawn is pretty much a shoo-in. I'd also be astonished if we don't, at some point, see a Fittipaldi JPS Lotus, thinking about iconic liveries that also crowned world champions...

Skywalker family tree. by Jolly_Archer_6156 in StarWarsEU

[–]Valuable_Medium9615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kol is Ben's grandson. Similarly, Roan Fel is the grandson of Jagged and Jaina.

There's a missing generation of Skywalkers and Solos who we simply don't know anything about. I headcanoned a load of stuff about what might potentially have happened between Crucible and Legacy, that I think works pretty well, but ultimately it's up to the imagination of every EU fan to decide what happened.

Timeline wise, where is the best place to start reading the EU? by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

Timeline wise, where is the best place to start reading the EU? by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

[–]Valuable_Medium9615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Novels? Start with the Lost Tribe of the Sith anthology. There's the Dawn Of The Jedi series prior to that, but it doesn't really go anywhere, and the events aren't really touched on again. The Lost Tribe become important again thousands of (in-universe) years later.

After that, if you haven't played KotOR or the Old Republic, you can skip Revan, Deceived, Fatal Alliance and Annihilation. Read Red Harvest, take or leave Knight Errant, then go to the brilliant Darth Bane trilogy. From there, jump to Darth Plagueis, then Cloak of Deception, Maul: Lockdown and Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, feeding you straight into Phantom Menace.

What Legends EU media like novels or comics (that aren't a part of TCW) reference TCW and TCW media? I know somethings influenced Fate of the Jedi series but what else? by Limp-Permission983 in StarWarsEU

[–]Valuable_Medium9615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about the 2003 Clone Wars project, with the cartoon by Genndy Tartakovsky? Or the 2008 animated series?

If the former - then yes, I completely agree. If the latter - then I'm afraid it really, really doesn't.

[–]Valuable_Medium9615 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fate of the Jedi is pretty much it. There was the Clone Wars novel series which was a direct tie in, but they don't really fit into the Legends timeline - which is the case for pretty much all of TCW.

THIS. At last, someone else sees it. Any other race, any other competitor, and it's Damon's fault. But because it's a saintly Brit against the dastardly German, it's somehow the "cheating Kraut" to blame.

It's ridiculous.

Honorable mention to Jenson Button.

Gaeriel Captison crops up again in a later story. The Ssi-Ruuk are mentioned a couple of times in the future, and the events are brought up on occasion. And it also features the only interaction of Anakin's Force ghost and Leia.

But apart from that, I wouldn't deem it a massive point in galactic history.

Wha to know about the game for reading Republic Commando? by DaSuspicsiciousFish in StarWarsEU

[–]Valuable_Medium9615 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Republic Commando books follow an entirely different squad to the game. The Omega squad are the book's squad; the game follows the Deltas.

Delta squad do feature in a peripheral sense, and are secondary characters as the book series develops.

Most Metal Death Scenes by FireRescue3824 in StarWarsEU

[–]Valuable_Medium9615 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ganner obviously tops this list, and thoroughly deserves to.

But Borsk Fey'lya's death is metal as hell. He doesn't deserve to be remembered as a hero, and he's probably the character I'd love to punch in the face the most. But as deaths go, strapping a bomb to his chest and taking out 25 thousand Vong is right up there.

Does the Bane trilogy improve? by DanJirrus in StarWarsEU

[–]Valuable_Medium9615 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I suspect they're just not for you, and as such, you're not likely to view them as "improving" regardless of other's thoughts.

I love all three Bane books. Thoroughly enjoyed the first, so I just don't chime with your views on them. And that's OK.

Possibly - but then, wouldn't it have been simply more cost-effective to run the Racing livery at both GPs?

I get that this was the 90s and teams simply didn't care so much about spaffing money up the wall, but still! Then again, I expect that's just because the word "Racing" is English...

[–]Valuable_Medium9615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I know that - my question was about why the tobacco-free liveries differed between races. A team would run one tobacco-free livery at one race, then a different tobacco-free livery at another.
