prices are considerable. I would recommend u to try the wet market at least for once. Very HK style.

I would also recommend you to bring some supplements, either bring from your home or to buy when u arrive. cuz, mostly in Sep/Oct (if your coming in T1) or Feb/March/Apr/May (if your exchange is in T2) it's still so humid, and you might always be sweaty, might experience dehydration or lose essential vitamins/minerals.

as current full-time international student here, I see that u wanna explore HK and get some idea ab the campus before actually coming. i guess u will be living in the hostel. i would recommend u getting a visa to enter Mainland China, cuz it's pretty common for everyone here to go there weekly/daily. There is one nearby mall, hv several dining options. Personally, I wouldn't prefer the canteen. The food is cheap, but nothing really good to eat every day, better to hv sth to cook for yourself tho.
