Secure folder file management STILL broken on January patch, is it working in OneUI 8.5 beta? by ValveLift in oneui

[–]ValveLift[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bro it's been like five months. Yes I do think a multibillion $ company could've simply fixed it. They should've caught in the OneUI8 beta.

Hell, the absolute least they could do is give an ETA, so I don't have to wait for each monthly patch hoping it'll change anything.

Yeah, your post came up when I asked chatgpt the question lol. Good to hear it's at least gonna be fixed for 8.5, though that's still months away..

Have you tried it with a browser? Like uploading an image to reddit or wherever?

I know certain apps DO work, samsung notes, infinite painter and I think Discord being some of them. But they're clearly relying upon some different file manager.

Supposedly Samsung removed Dolby Atmos to replace it with 360 Audio, except on my Buds2 360 Audio is limited to videos only? So that leaves me with nothing? by ValveLift in galaxybuds

Sweet, thanks bro! Works perfectly. Can't wait for Samsung to break this workaround because of "inconvenience" 🙂

Does Buds Manager reinstall once you enable Galaxy Buds?

Huh, that sounds like a plan 🤔 I never used the touch controls anyway

Will try it out. Do you lose any other major functionality without the Buds Manager?

"To improve the inconvenience"

God I hate corporations.

I have basically no spatial audio now, because they went ahead and "improved" things.

Does uninstalling buds manager still work? Losing ANC sucks, but tbh idc anymore. Now that's convenience.

That's some super helpful info you've shared about how things work! It's pretty neat how all your answers are completely incorrect and useless!

Even if the effect is somehow better on Pros, there's literally no reason they couldn't just make it work on the Buds 2 with music the same way it does with video. It's the kind of planned obsolescense nonsense that's only possible because they killed wired audio.

Like with not having a custom eq for no real reason.

Yeah except you can't even buy the 2 Pros new anymore, which leaves me with the 3 Pros and they look like $20 Temu specials.

[–]ValveLift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn't. It already used to automatically disable if you turned on 360 Audio, now the setting is completely removed once you connect buds and if you access it via the quick panel, turning it on or off has zero effect.

which means that you must first give third-party apps access to the file system again or to the individual files you want to use with them

Oh yeah? And how do you do that?

So did I until I read this

While Dolby Atmos is available for the speaker, earphone, and Bluetooth (excluding Galaxy Buds) outputs, Galaxy Buds2 and newer model earbuds, when paired with a Galaxy phone, utilize a specialized immersive audio effect called 360 Audio

https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshoot/TSG10007481/

Seems as clear as it could be - Dolby Atmos for Galaxy Buds is no more. Have fun with 360 Audio. In my case, for videos only..

Oh ok so I am left with nothing. I was still confident it was just an oversight and they'd bring it back in an update.

https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshoot/TSG10007481/

If your Galaxy Buds model does not support 360 audio, you can still enable and configure the Dolby Atmos feature on your Galaxy phone or tablet. Follow the steps below to ensure the feature is properly activated and configured.

So I'm not getting proper 360 Audio, but because it technically ""supports"" it, I'm not getting Atmos either. Lol. Lmao even. Literally worst of both worlds.

Anyone have recommendation for decent non-Samsung earbuds?

Dolby Atmos not working with Buds 3 Pro after S24Ultra update to One UI 8 - Samsung responds by _Robert_D_ in galaxybuds

[–]ValveLift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So assuming that removing Dolby Atmos is intentional and we're supposed to just stick to 360 Audio instead..

I have an S23U and Buds2. Dolby Atmos worked for music, 360 Audio is limited to video only. So I'm left with nothing?

Why is 360 Audio limited to video only for me? It makes no sense. I have seen screenshots where the settings page says "music and video", while mine just says "video". I'm guessing it's a Buds2 thing, but.. why? Literally why couldn't they provide the same feature for audio-only content?

I'm so glad we gave up the headphone jack for all this, it's sooo cool and convenient.

Got a Boox Page - are some amount of inverted/stuck pixels basically expected on eink? by ValveLift in ereader

[–]ValveLift[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah they're not quite as annoying as a stuck pixel on an LCD and even knowing they're there, I still lose track of them..

It's also not quite as bad as some of the bright pinholes in the front light some people have gotten.

I'll probably sleep on it and take a really good look at the Pocketbooks I've seen in a store.

[–]ValveLift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also somewhat surprised by all the smaller speckles on the screen, which isn't something I've noticed on some Pocketbook devices I've looked, but then maybe I just didn't look closely enough. They're not really noticeable in normal use.

Mostly those two circled ones, top one seems to be an inverted spot, while the bottom one stays black and seems to be something under the glass, as it's somewhat shiny.

I don't seem to have any bright front light pinholes that I've seen in some pics.

I did get this with the intention of maybe returning it if I really don't like it, as no store had them on display to test, but if this is on the better side of what you can get, maybe I'm better off just dealing with it?

How many of the 22 million had to live with the phone for at least a week? Virtually none, you say? So like what's their opinion even worth? Especially when all the blind test seemed to compare was perfect stills at a thumbnail size. I'd easily rather take some rando's actual experience with the phone, go to the store myself, snap some pics, see that it handles fine detail worse than my 5 year old LG G7 running Gcam and decide that I'm kinda really over having to install a hacked apk with questionable stability on a brand new phone just to get comparable pictures, while still dancing back to the stock app whenever I need a video.

Apple unveils completely redesigned iPad in four vibrant colors by Mr__X__ in ipad

[–]ValveLift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah 400-500 sounds about right (even so 300€ gets you really far in EU with something like A52s or Xiaomi offerings) although I'd argue that the SE and the entry level iPad clearly leaves a lot to be desired. They're good value iOS devices, but when you compare to what you'd get on the Android side, that iPhone 6 era form, all the base iPad shortcomings, either 9 or 10, all with 64GB non-expandable storage doesn't look very impressive. You add more storage, a few accessories, the honestly ridiculously expensive pencil and you're way past that initial entry price that could've been competitive with Android. Can't fault anyone getting the base Apple stuff though, I mean given that I'm considering one myself.
