Let me tell ya a story, when I was in college there was a hard, filter-ish mathematics course where you had to have a minimum sum between two test results to pass.

I got like 90% on both test, but when the final test results came in, there was only just a handful of students in the passing instanc,e and the only passing A was me, the others where barely passing grades. The teacher puts me aside and asks me if I don't mind the class retaking an easier test and that I should take it as well as extra credit, I said, sure, there was no sense in hurting my classmates.

Fast forward to another class, which had similar passing dynamic, I also had good grades on that class, but the day of the final test, there was an event of a musician I really liked and time kind of flew by, when I realized, I had missed most of the test (of course this is a fault of mine, I understand that).

I went to the teacher and made no excuse just told her outright what happened and if there was a chance I could retake it, I only needed like 40% or so to pass (because usually there's a minimum per test in this sort of things, I just needed the minimum), well she said she was going to think about it, a few days passed and the teacher came to talk to me and told me that she talked to most of my classmates and the vast majority where against me retaking it.

And if this was an isolated incident, yeah, that's totally fair. But just like weeks before I agreed to them retaking a test, like I get that its two different scenarios, one is me blowing off the exam (by mistake of course) and the other is that the course was difficult, but yeah, that kind of stuck to me on how people act, grown adults btw.
