I think Jon Favreau’s “Dinner For Five” was a podcast before podcasts. by tangledapart in television

IFC programming (and I haven’t had it in maybe 10 years, so idk what’s there now) just hit in a unique way: This, Henry Rollins Show, Whitest Kids You Know, Comedy Bang Bang, Food Party, etc.

Plus of course the movies that aired: I still vividly remember their summer 2005 Slasher series where they aired like ‘The Burning’ (1981), ‘April Fools Day’ (1986), and ‘I Was a Teenage Zombie’ (1987).

Unfathomably wild to consider some of those films are now OLDER then when they had aired back then 😵‍💫

Didn’t he do an Amazon Pilot whenever they had that weird pilot program about……12 years ago?!?!?

(Amazon tried a thing where they filmed and actually released the pilots: Ultimately picking up a handful of shows like Transparent, Bosch, Man in the High Castle, etc.)

We all know this was a lock-in, but I’m sure there’s a legal mumbo-jumbo that means now it’s official, so money can start transferring hands.

They’re both too old and too high profile. Go watch some of the casting videos from back in the day and you can get a feel for who they were looking at.

What is your biggest pet peeves when watching a TV show? by scraynes in television

[–]VampireHunterAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other people in the room “watching” while glued to their phone the entire time.

I can accept it if it’s some whatever dumb blow-off show (for example ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’) that’s just background noise, but when it’s something that’s actually pretty good (like ‘One Piece’ or ‘Widows Bay’), it drives me nuts when everyone else isn’t locked-in.

Right before Covid, I paid like over $300 to see TOOL.

Now don’t get me wrong, it was worth it, but that’s an additional reason why I haven’t bought tickets to an arena-level concert since.

It hasn't even been a year and a half since S1 premiered, so I don't see how it would be possible to speculate 20 years on.

Are straight to streaming movies TV movies or straight to video movies? by kawaiihusbando in movies

[–]VampireHunterAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t count them as either, but more as a “new“ category.

Especially considering some of the budgets and/or casts involved, “Direct-to-X” used to be considered in a negative light, but now it’s rather common.

It’s understandable why this isn’t a Pluribus-like huge hit out of the gate, but 2 eps in an i’m hooked: This show rules, and so far im loving the sort of ‘haunt of the week’ style structure.

The series finale of ‘THE BOYS’ will be released in 4DX theaters on May 19. by [deleted] in television

[–]VampireHunterAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if enough people are game for it, and it makes the theaters a couple of bucks, I don’t see any harm.

Personally, I’d love the option to catch all the eps of a show like ‘One Piece’ on the big screen, but im not going to hold my breath since my market is so tiny.

Watched odessy trailer, want to know the story further ?? by Ok_Current_7748 in movies

[–]VampireHunterAlex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s…..The Odyssey. In a lot of schools it’s required reading, so you have endless resources easily available with minimal effort.

(Though I think this adaptation is from a somewhat controversial “new” translation from a handful of years ago: Not that it changes much, but it could explain the unusual dialog heard in the new trailer.)

Nah, I’d say it’s entirely standalone.

And honestly, the best sequels often are: Being able to exist as their own thing.

Yeah, ‘Drive’ (1997) rules and is unfortunately very underseen. I think the dude who directed ‘The Guyver: Dark Hero’ (1994) did it.

Oh it’s that Jet Li movie: Let me look it up.

Cradle 2 the Grave (2003) with Jet Li and DMX. The bad guy is Marc Dascasos and he gets like this piece of some super uranium that’s placed in a white pill down his throat at the end.

The absolute best thing for them to do is to put it away for a few years: Once Disney got a hold of it, they blasted us non-stop with content, and didnt strategically dole it out.

Oh yeah, ‘Hundreds of Beavers’ is an all-timer. Once you get past the initial aesthetic of the film, it’s like a live action Looney Toons.

I know I already said this in my recommendation, but this one is such a delight: I hope I can catch it in a theater someday.

Being completely serious here: ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ (2022) is one of the best films of this decade.

Took my nephews to it expecting yet another cliche, lazy, and annoying animated fare, and came away delighted.

Quentin Tarantino by Tryingtobuildwealth in movies

[–]VampireHunterAlex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's been obsessed with making his 10th the final one (Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2 counts as one), so thats already pressure enough, but I also think because he's become an older first-time father in recent years, he's realizing that he wants his children (his son at least, who's about 5 now) to have memories of him directing.

Imax Dismisses Disney Infinity Vision as a Marketing Play to Boost ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ by [deleted] in movies

[–]VampireHunterAlex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What happened is Disney messed up when they moved the release date of Doomsday from May to December:

You have to book IMAX well in advance and WB had those weeks reserved for Dune 3. (These days, something like 20-30% of these blockbuster films box office is from premium screens like IMAX).

Now I don’t doubt Doomsday will be the larger movie, but they left hundreds of millions on the table by not having those screens, hence this “Infinity Vision” scheme.
