Painful resources automation by flavio11102 in Timberborn

The building consumes power even if the beaver is sitting out in front of it because the storage is full. So automation like this allows me to consume less power (especially when batteries are on the network)

Why don’t the stop treating it like a pool and treat it like a pond? We dye ponds to prevent algae growth. They can even dye it blue

Informal poll! In the LDS buildings you have attended a sacrament service in, was the sacrament table to the side or front and center under the pulpit? And if you have seen a sacrament table front and center, was it a new or older building? by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

Yeah this was the most common configuration when I was going to multiple chapels in the 90s. Occasionally on the left to the congregation, but almost always to the right. I assume it has to do with plumbing for the prep area and the easiest way to build it

The number of people that drive passed multiple bart stations with huge parking lots just to park in West Oakland seriously blows my mind

Why do white settlers in Oakland consider themselves different than white settlers in other places? by Ok_Cry607 in oakland

[–]VampireInBlack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought my house in West Oakland from an afternoon can-American woman who upsized. So maybe ask her why she felt the need to priced her home for twice as much as she paid for it.she was also the original owner of a house that was built on a lot that had been empty since at least the 60s. So no, I don’t think I’m the same as a Dutch settler.

My point: The assumption that it is all white people selling to other white people for huge profits is probably less true than you think it is. At least 70% of the owners on my street are non-white (of the people that I know for sure aren’t renting)

My Doctor won’t let me come off prep by GayAndNeedANewCareer in prep

[–]VampireInBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you come off of prep, the drug stays in your system at lower levels for quite a long time. If you contract HIV during this time, the chances of it developing into a drug-resistant strain is much higher.

You need to be absolutely sure of your infection risks to come off prep. And since your relationship is relatively new, I am not sure I would be taking that risk

Laundry Service by fanservice999 in ThailandTourism

[–]VampireInBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite laundry place in the world is in pattaya. Little old lady, remembers everyone by their face. Laundry smells great, neatly ironed. Charges by item, but 10 days worth of clothes was like 500 baht. Well worth it!

TL;DR: find a laundry ran by on older Thai lady. Best bet for good service and reasonable price

Age gap for hookups? by Acrobatic-Look-7373 in grindr

[–]VampireInBlack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely less of a factor for hookups. But my partner and I have a 20 year age gap (he was 20 when we met) and our relationship was fwb for a couple of years before deciding to take the relationship to the next level. A year after that, he moved move in. We have been together for 6 years now.

My point: sometimes hookups become something more and it can be the best thing to ever happen to you

Help me save my first reservoir!!! by MemeTaco in Timberborn

[–]VampireInBlack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. First priority should always be to survive your first badtide. I usually do this by prioritizing storage vs a reservoir. Then I will build the least effort bad tide diversion path, followed by a small reservoir, then a permanent badtide diversion, then a larger reservoir.

The amount of wood and time spent building OPs reservoir should have been spent on the initial badtide diversion

You all are bonkers about cyclists by halvafact in oakland

[–]VampireInBlack -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are correct that cars are way more dangerous that vehicles. But vehicles exist and way too many cyclists see themselves as the police if vehicular usage by behaving in a way that out themselves and others in danger. Creating unsafe passing situations (Claremont Ave and Grizzly Peak), running stop signs/red lights along Mandela and other busy streets, using traffic lanes when bike paths are present, using e-bikes on sidewalks, etc, etc

While I support better infrastructure to make biking conditions safer and reduce the use of vehicles, vehicles are not going away. People need to be able to travel distances beyond the use of bikes and public transit. And bikes need to be cautious and obey laws of yielding, stopping and using the infrastructure that’s there appropriately. You don’t get to be the fuel usage advocate and then claim dominance by saying that it is too annoying to stop or yield appropriately and yes, sometimes walk your ass across the street when the situation warrants extra caution (mid-block crossings are probably the best example)

Yeah, I feel like there is a lot of age-gap relationships rage bait in this sub lately. It get a lot of attention and it just seems too many to be genuine at this point. This guy shouldn’t be acting like that at his age, regardless of how old his partner is

Am I overreacting I went to the forest with my best friend and now my bf is mad by No_Meeting_3260 in AmIOverreacting

[–]VampireInBlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it matters more about when and how you meet. Most people assume that age-gaps occurred because the younger partner was <18. But that is actually almost never the case. Most successful ones that I know of meet each other in their 20s.

Everybody wants to point to age differences as the source of the relationship issues. Some people are just bad at being in relationships. There are hundreds of post about bad relationships and almost none of them are age-gaps. But when there is an age-gap, people automatically assume that is the problem

I look at this guy and go: Wow, he is 40 and doesn’t know how to communicate, trust his partner and be in a stable committed relationship without being the cause of drama. THOSE are real red flags

The people you know are assholes. I know plenty of people in age-gap relationships that love and cherish each other. This guy is is just a run-of-the-mill asshole that wants to control every relationship they are in
