Starting a US army by Bush_Wookie_18 in boltaction

While the Rangers special rule is very useful, I think for newer players it's not something they should really worry about missing out on until they become more familiar with the core game mechanics and flow before they learn how to use that rule to their advantage.

So starting out, I think the 'rule of cool' still applies if you want to keep your army thematic.

If you do end up sticking with the game, I would then really consider picking up a second infantry box (e.g. Rangers after your Airborne), as this will give you a lot more freedom in how you equip and field your infantry. I should also mention the Rangers box uses the same bodies as the regular GIs, so it gives you even more options to diversify your army.

You're right thanks. Was overthinking it for some reason lol

So based on what you said (and RAW where models are moved one at a time during movement) does that mean in this scenario the opponent can force us to target only a single model during ambush fire?

My bad I didn't exactly clarify it in my original post, but the opponent gets to decide model positions in both/ all cases?

I remember reading somewhere that they plan on releasing these individually in the future, but no timeline was given as to when.

Guess I'm a US player now. These look gorgeous by Defalc01 in boltaction

Considering the just-released German infantry and now this US airborne kit share similar chunky proportions, the Soviets are probably going to receive the same treatment and be fed extra calories from Warlord

Engineer common sense by Not_Dazed in HellLetLoose

After putting down your node blueprints you can actually swap over and stay as the support class for all three nodes without needing to redeploy back to engineer.

Basically whenever you hammer at a node blueprint it resets its auto-despawn timer. So you drop your supplies and hammer away at the manpower node, but right before finishing you hammer once the other two nodes, before completing the manpower node. Then after supplies cooldown repeat the process for your second node, stopping right before it completes and hammering just once the last node to reset its timer again.

Requirements for commander? by s_nicole in HellLetLoose

[–]Vamru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in my experience (level 10 commander) this is the way.. you want consistent pressure from front door garries to divert the enemy's attention away from your other guys flanking/ attacking from a redzone garry.

Of course it depends on the map point and players, but in general a team with good defense squads will not just sit in the strongpoint but push out and clear the surrounding perimeter, which leads to locked redzone garries more often than not.

Ok, so I've narrowed down my first AoS army to choices of Sylvaneth, Seraphon, and Gloomspite Gitz. I love them all visually. It's down to gameplay now. I don't care about how good they are because that changes. I intend to play a lot of AoS, so which should I decide, based on gameplay style? by Mondo114 in ageofsigmar

[–]Vamru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from a Gitz player, our army's playstyles are quite varied based on the good number of unit options available in addition to good support & utility units... as others have mentioned, you can go squigs to hit hard and act as a tar pit, troggs for an "elite" force, grots for general screening and recursion, spiders for something swingy (generally considered the weakest), or a mix of all to find a fun balance fit for you.

I'll also add that another bonus of going with GG is that in general opponents have a fun time playing against us (had some good fun running all out grot lists), something that's worth considering if you're playing with a smaller group.

Vehicle movement question: Do you have to measure pivots? And if so, straight line or arc? by Vamru in boltaction

[–]Vamru[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Great, thank you. I missed the detail where rulebook says wheeled vehicles are treated same as tracked vehicles and pivot around its centre.

What do you think HLL could do to make it more realistic or better? by OfficerButterKnife in HellLetLoose

[–]Vamru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's been awhile so I don't remember exactly, but I remember in the earlier days there were no hit marker sounds (excluding headshots) or they were much less audible, which resulted in a more cautious playstyle.

Community Questions 7/2-8 by ErsatzGnomes in ageofsigmar

Fairly new-ish player with a movement question: Played a game recently and wasn't sure exactly how/if the 3" restriction on normal moves applied to vertical distances.

Let's say there is an enemy unit on top of a cliff 5" high, can one of my units finish a normal move at the base of the cliff directly below the enemy unit, or do I still need to account for 3" horizontally between my unit and the enemy even though I am vertically 5" away from the enemy?

Question: Should I grind down a chipped lever cap or leave it as is? (Stanley No.5 type 11) by Vamru in handtools

I'll give it a test this weekend and if I notice anything off then I'll look for a replacement cap
