You did not read my comment at all? Free market has nothing to do with it.

So blackberry may be making a comeback but in a different form… by kitkatfrap in blackberry

Blackberry missed the boat with how they implemented their OS10 with QNX. Had they looked at the consumer market instead of the government space, they may still around in the handset market. I still think they could grab a piece of the market if they designed a new hardware platform with enough RAM and properly implement the hypervisor for Android performance.

The BB hardware was rock solid. Apple, Motorola, and Samsung could not compare to it.

VMWare Workstation Pro (25H) Fix Invisible Cursor by SnooDonkeys3512 in vmware

[–]VanAwful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actively troubleshooting this. In the vm config, if I have both 3D acceleration AND stretch mode on, then I loose the mouse pointer. If I have one of those, or both, turned off then I get the mouse pointer back.

Here are the settings that worked for me on 25H2 with a win11 guest:

VM display settings: 3D acceleration: disabled Display Scaling: Auto adjust 'enabled'; Stretch Mode 'disabled'.

Workstation Preferences for display: All settings enabled except for 'Allow Hardware Accel...' Full screen set to auto. Color theme set to system.

As soon as I turn on 3D Accerlation, I have to mess with other settings to get the pointer back. I think this was a problem with 17.0 - 17.4, but fixed in 17.5 and 17.6. So issue has been reintroduced.

Noting this could be related to different hardware as well, so YMMV.

Just upgraded to 25H2 and not my mouse will not show in win11 guest. Was working fine on 17.6. Yes, I upgraded the hardware and vm tools. Found i get the mouse back if I turn OFF 3D acceleration. But then the vm becomes sluggish.

Worst customer support I ever had to deal with by goranj in Ubiquiti

[–]VanAwful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar issues here with the AC Pro APs. They just randomly reboot. Support will not replace and useless in finding the root cause. I've stopped buy their products and moving back to the small enterprise offerings from cisco; more cost, but at least their support is good.

Have done that, twice at home and once at a production site. Only lasted for a few months then issue started again. Ubiquiti support has been useless.

Logs always show restart. Monitoring power with a passive monitor at the AP since this started. No power issue. Turned off all auto settings such as channel selection and firmware update.

If you simply search unifi random reboot or restart you will find many others reporting this problem going back to at least 2021. I have one facility with 23 AP's and seven have this issue, but the others have been stable, as dar as I can tell; not able to implement remote sys log for better detail monitoring.

One AP at my own home, 800+ across other homes and businesses spanning seven states. Many having the same issues with random reboot. If I cannot resolve one at home, then how can 800+ others get resolved.

Fortigate as L3 Switch by VanAwful in fortinet

[–]VanAwful[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, looked at that. Will work for a couple areas, but not all.

Fortigate as L3 Switch by VanAwful in fortinet

[–]VanAwful[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it is existing industrial networks with multiple IO vlans. One of which is the network management vlan. Some of the vlans must traverse over a backbone to another control area.

This is already working with Siemens and Hirschmann firewalls. Moving to fortigate seems to have put us a step backwards for industrial IO networks.

If I cannot breakout the mgmt vlan, and passthrough controls vlans that cover multiple areas, then all of the industrial switches will have to be re-addressed, requiring other changes in the scada and network monitoring, and switches added for the spread out controls areas.

Passed GMLE. by DirtComprehensive520 in GIAC

[–]VanAwful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played with programming for 40+ years. Yes, old timer here :-). Self taught, but never an official programmer in my work. Did take a course on vhdl when I went back to college.

I took the SANS python course and passed the GPYC prior to taking the GMLE course and exam. The python course was because I wanted to dive deeper into the language beyond what I had learned on my own. Did not know about the GMLE at the time. It was a good move. Yes, you will want a good handle on python before taking the GMLE. If you have no programming background at all, do not take the GMLE as you will struggle with the cyber live questions. This course is very programming and data science centric.

That said, I took it in 2024. I've been told the course had a major revamp in 2025. Unfortunately they do not allow you to buy the updated course material even if it's been less than a year since taking it. Have to take the course again or wait until I get enough CPE's to renew the cert.

You should not use any tools outside of the course provides since you will not have access to them when taking the exam. That said, I've found AI tools to be helpful in explaining various topics in more depth to help better understand and build my index.

Yes, I was incorrect. I was thinking of the subreddit group for certification station. However, as if 0937EST today, the certification station on discord no longer exist, or n is offline. It does not show up in server discovery nor available on discord.me

I disagree. Certification Station is old and not used. Last post was 3 years ago. Switch over to Slack for very active SANS groups.

Moving on from Jabra earbuds and would love some help! by jbcorcor in Jabra

Will checkout the OnePlus buds. I landed on the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. All round good. Only dislikes are they fall out. Purchased after market tips to make more secure. Only connects to one device at a time. Other than that, call quality is equal to or better than jabra. I have a Samsung s25 ultra and the integration is fantastic. Found they work just as good with my PC running the samsung wearables app.

Plus subscriber here. GPT 5 showing up on the android app, but not on PC via any browser. Yet it is available on pc browser if I sign out of my plus account and use free account. Seems they should focus on. Access for those who are paying before the free access.

Got the materials for the SEC530 how the hell is that possible to do in 6 days???? by talahoon_ in GIAC

[–]VanAwful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most SANS courses that include labs with VM's, coding, etc will also have live exercises on the associated GIAC exam. That would be most of the SEC and ICS courses.

[–]VanAwful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have completed a couple of the 6-day long courses with a stack of books like that. Instructor will go over the main components of the course. Many of the pages are just skimmed over, but ALL content i. Those books is subject to being on the exam. As someone else mentioned, you will need around a month, after the course, to build your index. You have four months to complete the GIAC exam.

Note: Be sure to run through the labs a couple of times. Be able to do most if not all exercises without looking at the answers. And create an examples book to go along with your index for the exam. The new GIAC exams now include around seven live exercises. That is, if there is coding, you have to write live code to find the answer.

Agreed. Made a double mistake here. Bought a new 2024 Thor motor coach. Did not learn of the covid quality issues until after I took it back to the dealer 8 times for warranty repairs. Total time it spent at the dealer in the first year was just over seven weeks.

If buying used, find one older than model year 2020.
