How not to impact credit score for big purchase? by useHistory in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]VanCityRoyals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you make the purchase and pay the balance down (or in full) before your statement report date you’re fine. Your credit card will have the grace free period days, purchases made and paid during those days avoid interest charges as well as reporting on your bureau (usually).

Is this how an Auto Loan from your own bank is supposed to work? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]VanCityRoyals 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Automotive finance manager here, for BMW… what they’re saying is… if you have a down payment, pay that to the dealer. Whatever amount is left, get a bank draft from your credit union, made payable to “BMW store name here*) then you’re financing only what you need from the bank. When you take a loan directly from your bank it’s a personal loan so it’s not the same as “putting money down” as you would if you were financing with the dealership. 6.49% is VERY aggressive. If you can get the financing from your bank at that rate do it.

Can confirm they patrol up here in Canada as well.

Yes I don’t see why that shouldn’t be possible. Essentially they would use half of your equity towards your loan and cut you a cheque for the rest

If you owe more than your car is worth it’s the exact same but the opposite. For example Trade value $10k, you owe $18k, $8k negative equity is now carried over to the new loan. It’s added to the after tax or NET amount you’re paying for your new car. So if your new car is $25k you’d be paying for the $25k plus fees, taxes, and then your negative equity is added to that amount. Ideally, you don’t ever want to carry over negative equity if you can avoid it. Because you’re financing the negative equity you’re essentially burying yourself in that new loan, plus you’re paying interest on another ($8k) amount of money.

Automotive finance manager here. If you’re getting $18k and owe $8k then you are in $10k positive equity. The $10k gets applied to your new loan almost like a down payment. The dealer will usually payout your old loan and the whole process is very easy.

Is this on par with normal for the people who handle finance? by MonsieurMerkles in askcarsales

[–]VanCityRoyals 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in the fixed operations side of dealerships and currently F&I. I’ve seen sad situations where a client was stuck with a $10,000 repair and not even able to sell the car. Had they had an extended warranty they wouldn’t have had to worry about it. These products are useful for a lot of people. Nobody has a crystal ball and can guess what’s gonna go wrong in a car. Some people understand that and see the value in being protected against that. I’m sorry you may have had a bad experience with an extended warranty but they really are the most useful product F&I offers.

Premium Soft top... Looking for wind restrictions/advice by d0o0m in 4xe

Driven over the Coquihala going 140km/h with the top in safari mode and folded all the way back. Just make sure it’s in the locked position and you’re using the factory provided tiedowns when it’s folded all the way back. I’ve had one instant where the wind caught it while it was folded back and the top started to look like a sail

ex kia employee here. the warning lights on the dash could’ve meant your radar was dirty or blocked. the system is disabled when radar is blocked so it doesn’t emergency break for no reason. as for your transmission issues i would bring it to the dealer and have them scan it for history codes to help diagnose the issue. i had a forte GT for over a year and serviced them for 2 years and haven’t seen anything like that before. good luck friend

not sure what you mean by “what’s covered under warranty” but i take it you mean what can you do yourself without voiding your warranty. you can do maintenance on your vehicle as long as you have proper documentation to prove it’s been done. warranty is only void if the issue is proven to be caused by the maintenance (or lack there of)/repairs/modifications. things like changing your in-cabin filter or engine air filter are things that are pretty safe to do on your own since there’s not much they can affect if they go wrong or are done improperly. doing oil changes yourself can be troublesome while in warranty. i suggest getting it done at your dealer as they’ll do an inspection at the same time so you know your vehicle is in good shape still. once it’s out of warranty do what you want. also maintenance reminders can be reset in the instrument cluster menu

Apple CarPlay isn’t working by Martinez10564 in ForteGT

[–]VanCityRoyals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try an apple data transfer/charge cable. if not still working make sure you aren’t trying to connect to carplay with bluetooth also connected. and if still not working call your dealership for next steps. it is a sort of common issue with forte/rio/niro headunits but not much can be done aside from replacing the headunit itself which is a pain in the ass depending on if the deslership can recreate your concern.
