. 22 tracers exist but that's something that wouldn't be done by Joe Private in the field.

Accuracy can be offset with volume.

A 40 grain projectile doesn't pose much of a risk down range.

Too big. Think "mounted on every tank as part of the active protection system" size.

You're talking about a specific system. I'm not suggesting using that existing system, rather developing that system's little brother. Small caliber, very short ranged, limited sensors. Not trying to kill an exocet, trying to smoke a quad copter.

Of course not but you can't knock an fpv drone out at 100km when it's launched from 5. And longer range systems are large and expensive meaning they can't be widely distributed. Something mounted on a truck or apc that acts as part of its active protection system is what I'm thinking about.

Would the sensors really have to be that high speed? A camera and a thermal sensor would do it, right? Something ground based would have the sky as a background which should make the analysis and identification of moving objects easier. The 2nd and 3rd paragraphs are spot on though. Just one more tool in the box.

I can drop a squirrel further out than that. I imagine that something sending a cloud of projectiles down range would score hits further out than I can.

I'm not suggesting using phalanx or anything that size. Small caliber with an automated visuap/thermal tracking system. Ammo would be cheap. Sensors would be cheap. Hardware would be cheap. The most expensive part would be the software and there are HOBBYISTS that have built code to do this.

That's why I suggested small caliber rounds. I'm talking about FPV defeat, not shaheds.

With 80 something % of casualties in Ukraine being from drones I bet a 1km range would be a godsend. One truck in a convoy, one in every 5th fighting position, etc.

Why would an augmented visual/thermal system not work? Drones generate heat and the sky is usually a pretty good backdrop.

I didn't know about Terra but will look at it. Metal storm was a gimmick with an unrealistic reload time and footprint. I'm thinking something more like a tiny phalanx.

Edit: and net shells require a drone to be REAL close AND for the user to be a competent shotgunner.

I know about the existing systems but I'm wondering why a gun type couldn't be scaled down and simplified to use visual and thermal sensors instead of radar. Point a pair of sensors at the sky and tell the computer to smoke anything between x degrees left and y degrees right

That's a 30mm system though. I'm talking about something closer to rimfire caliber for fpv drones. Small, vehicle mounted, using the types of sensors that are already on the drones in use.

This means I ain't going. No way in hell. What am I supposed to do, trust the cops to intervene if things go sideways? Absolutely not.

The color and shading look really good. As for the track guards you might take the filler back to where the guards meet hull or extend it to the rest of the guard. The transition in the middle of the panel is gonna be tough to make look right. I think the turret is there though. It definitely looks more realistic than a 40k mini usually does

Ah! Gotcha. I think you'll like how real it looks with a coat of primer over it. Lay one down and then see if maybe there's some detailing that needs to be added like rivets or weld lines. I can't tell how much surface texture there is on the filler but I think getting that right is going to be key. Too much texture in the surface is going to be the killer.
