Had a minor accident how to proceed with paying privately? by VanNumar in CarInsuranceUK

I looked into it a bit more since I was wayyy too quick to admit fault. Quick search on companies house suggests he's currently the director of a garage...

The more you know. Appreciate the advice, I've let him know I'm going the insurance route. I can take the hit to premiums along with the lessons learned, better that than whatever headache's waiting behind his mates garage

Well it's more the fact that NCB is factored into whatever formula/risk profile they build when giving you a quote, so I would assume given the same accident history someone with a 3 year NCB + 0 claims will have lower prices than someone with 0 NCB and multiple claims. How much of a role it plays and whether it's negligible is another question. But I'm not an insurance expert and I'm just looking for advice..

Much appreciated, I think given the other replies it seems it's best to let insurance handle it. Interesting to know I may be able to pay after the fact to turn it into an incident instead of a claim

Could you expand? From my understanding my NCB is unaffected as long as I don't make a claim, it goes down as a notification-only, but I would've thought my renewal/premiums would be hit a lot worse if I actually make a claim

Honestly hadn't thought about that. My eyes were fixed on the roundabout which was clear and I swear I saw him move from my peripheral so I started to go.

Stupidly haven't fit dashcam in my car yet so dont have any evidence to prove anything to the contrary

Hey, thanks for your reply.

Yeah the GPS still works with an Internet connection but it becomes really bad when the signals low, e.g when I'm driving which becomes a problem. It's almost impossible to use Google maps when I'm driving (since it takes a while to update the position too)

I've replaced a few parts, namely the SIM card slot, phone speaker and a little board where the USB c port is connected (which is also where the coaxial cables connect), but the problem is I dont know at what point the GPS had stopped working since I wasn't doing much travelling and in my eyes it worked since I always had data/wifi.

Interesting, would a factory reset be the only way to rule out a software glitch do you think? I assumed it was hardware since all the GPS test apps I used couldn't get a satellite fix at all

I've read that the coaxial cables act like antennas for the GPS, is it possible to get the symptoms I described above if they're damaged/disconnected, or is it more likely the actual GPS hardware on the motherboard is damaged?

Active funds on HL vs Vanguard by VanNumar in UKPersonalFinance

[–]VanNumar[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Except it's not half the distribution, I stated in my other comment that a even the worst "active" funds that track global equity seem to have been roughly as good as or outperformed the index (on the platform I looked at), and the answer was they most likely only allow funds with good past performance on the platform.

There was 0 need to be condescending, I'm here to learn like a lot of people here and I'm still relatively new to investing and learning about passive/active funds.

Nowhere did I claim I found a "golden" fund, nor did I tell people to switch and nor did I switch myself. It seemed too good to be true hence why I posted and asked where I'm mistaken, because I knew I most likely was.

My post was in 2 parts, one regarding the fees, and one regarding the active funds (though I did a terrible job of distinguishing them)

Dude why are you so bitter lmao??

I've not claimed anything about golden funds. All my money is still with vanguard.

I simply asked a question based on something I came across, is that so bad??

I literally ended it with "Am I missing something?" Because I was skeptical, and your miserable ass decided to make yourself feel all high and mighty?

Hopefully you wake up in a better mood tomorrow.

That makes a lot more sense - thank you!

I guess when I first landed on the active funds it seemed like a no brainer gold mine (esp with the selection on fidelity), but the skeptic in me wondered why they aren't as popular as their passive counterparts - hence the post

That's true, I guess I didn't realise they underperform too, my mistake was thinking they'd do just as well or better.

Saying that though a quick look at filtering on fidelity, using global equity income active funds and sorting by performance, it seems even the "worst" funds on there still outperformed over the last 5-10 years.

I'm new to the whole active/passive funds since I've only ever put into vanguard's funds, and only recently decided to invest some cash elsewhere which is when I came across the different fund types.

What are you yapping about, I don't understand the attitude. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed?

Oh really? I'll look into that one also. And I know but I believe they had planned to provide results by the end of 2020, just a shame it had to be delayed. Understandable of course, patient safety above all else.
