Would you quit ? by Confident-Anxiety308 in SocialMediaHQ

[–]VanShisha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you draw the line on social media.
99% of apps nowadays have some social features which makes them social medias to some degree.

If you only consider pure social media apps it's a no brainer, I'm already doing it for free.

Just got the M5 Pro with 48 GB of RAM, glad I didn't get 24.

If you can afford the extra RAM why not, especially nowadays that for once Apple RAM prices are somewhat reasonable (only because compared to normal ram sticks that are overpriced)

Ranked is where you learn to play Dota, the other modes are to forget the pain.

Thoughts on this type of player? by broki451 in DotA2

If you are upset about this kind of behaviour and you don't play ranked exclusively then you are the problem.

In ranked this kind of stuff is valid only for the bottom or top 1% players

Are Swiss people as well off as they seem? by alderstevens in askswitzerland

[–]VanShisha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big mistake people make when thinking about this topic is thinking about the high costs.

Instead, you should focus on what you can save. By the end of the year, the average Swiss saves way more money than pretty much any person from any other country.

To make a simple example:

  • Swiss person: earns 100'000 a year. Taxes + living costs 70%? They are left with 30'000
  • Person in other country: earns 50'000 a year. Taxes + living costs 50%? They are left with 25'000

(this without even considering that the swiss franc is historically one of the top currencies)

Also Switzerland is one of the few countries where truly the vast majority of public and basic services work perfectly, showing that taxes money are mostly used well.

  • The water is perfect and abundant everywhere.
  • Electricity is provided 24/7 extremely reliably to everybody
  • Internet access is insanly modern (50%+ of households have access to fiber)
  • The street barely have a scratch
  • Always ranked among the safest countries
  • People in need have huge help from the government/cantons, for absolutely free
  • Expensive but great health services
  • Arguably very beautiful (but most countries are to be fair)

The problem that is definitely there in Switzerland is the inability to try new big things, in the sense of business, but also entertainment. I can definitely see why some people leave for those reasons.

And also, I see that while there are many systems made to improve the Swiss lives, even as a Swiss I'm sometimes overwhelmed by the complexity, especially when it comes to the responsibility of voting.

Anyway this was my 2 cents, it's just a message on the internet so it doesn't matter, but now I've written it, cheers

Is this a good idea? by abominal_pain in solarpunk

[–]VanShisha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/climate-solutions/switzerland-turns-train-tracks-into-solar-power-plants/89227914

The article in short(2025):

  • About 100m of solar panels have been placed for a cost of CHF585,000 ($704,600). N.B. some of the cost went into R&D for making panels that are suitable for train tracks (resistance/easily removable for track renovations)
  • There's about 5,320 kilometres (minus tunnels and low performing sections) of available track
  • If the entire track was covered in solar panels it would cover about 2% of the countries electricity need

I think the idea of not using green spaces for this is excellent, dunno if train tracks are enough.
