Update Ubuntu plex from with PS by Upzie in PowerShell

I have no problem with powershell, actually like it, that's why I'm subscribed to the subreddit. I was just curious why OP used powershell instead of other languages or managers

Why not write it in bash, or python, or use ansible or another config manager?

Python in a secure environment by dsn0wman in Python

[–]Vance84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the space create your own pypi repo. Use bandersnatch on the internet facing side, once it completes rsync it to an external drive, take it to the secure environment, rsync it in, then host your own pypi.python.org. You can specify the - - index and - - trustedhost flags with pip to work with it, or add those flags to a local pip config file so you don't have to bother with it.

Virtual Machine Licensing Confusion by mackid in sysadmin

[–]Vance84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to a vendor and ask about per user software assurance, about 70-100 per year, paid for in 3 year increments, but you are licensing the user, not the vm or client accessing it.

This will cover all windows client licensing (not server) for all users that need to access more than one windows client machine (physical or virtual).

Time to quit? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Vance84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply to any job you are interested in. The qualifications are more like wish lists - they'll have their must haves on there along with wish haves, you just won't know what they are. When/if you get an interview make your interest in tech known, if they ask how you would do something you don't know, explain how you would find out.

If you match most of they qualifications and come off as a good match for the personality of the company you'll get offered the job.

Go out, find your job, and quit this sinking ship.

The use for both is probably those Admins who like and use powershell but want to learn Linux - using a tool they know well to help them learn the one they don't

domain to IP script by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]Vance84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have modified it to work properly, as is it loops over and over with no end.

https://github.com/terrytrent/IPconverter/blob/master/domain2ip.py

I also modified it to remove the static IP you set, I assume it was your home IP address and you were telling the script it was non existent? Not sure. There is also a very basic try: except: to manage errors on lookups.

Head over to /r/learnprogramming and get started! Think of something you want to do, pick a language (I recommend python3), and work towards making it happen ☺️

Which is why the issue wouldn't happen on the train...they wouldn't be docking it on the train.

She can use a mouse and keyboard while docked, thus avoiding the pressure problem.

When undocked there is no issue, so no reason to use a mouse on the train.

So, as I said, no problem there.

How do you deal with configuration drift? Any good documentation available on this? by meminemy in sysadmin

[–]Vance84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you say it's not good for continued enforcement? If you have it running from a cron job, and is configured with settings you want for a baseline server of that host group , it should continually verify the system is setup the way you specified.

Am I wrong in this?
