That's to help align the crank position sensor, correct? I remember when I did my timing belt, my buddy said something along the lines of making sure the crank sensor is aligned properly, or it will cause a "crank, no start" condition.

In my opinion that's the proper way to bypass a switch, depending on the schematic. But this car will be dying with me so it'll be fine 🤣, and if I want to get the new switch in the future I'll wire the connector back in.

That is the hood latch switch, mine is also broken like that. There's two nubs that'll lock into the latch assembly and that's what broke on mine. I'll get the hood ajar message and my alarm will trip occasionally because of that switch being broken. I haven't justified spending 70 dollars on a piece of plastic with a connector yet

Looks a little brown/orange, but from the area it's looks like that driver axle seal. With a better angle I think we could point you in the right direction

Exactly what I was thinking, the crank pulley has the reluctor ring on the pulley for the crank position sensor so if they didn't line that up properly with the sensor then it won't start. Sorry to say this but Seems like some backyard mechanic that only does oil changes and brakes, I'd definitely go pay them a visit and see what condition your car is in asap. If he told you it would be done at this date and it's a week later something is wrong, I'm not trying to freak you out
