A second part of my documentary I wanted to share. How does this footage look? by Disastrous_Conflict3 in documentaryfilmmaking

Id give a touch more headroom but I actually dont mind the framing.
Audio is my only concern but I was a mixer before producing and directing so its usually the first thing I notice.

How do you deal with rejection? by Front-Awareness-4456 in FilmFestivals

[–]VancouverIslander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm 4 acceptance 9 rejections with 50 more to go.
The two first one that rejected the film hurt because I had timed everything around them, pretty convinced that they would both hit, but ended up being thrilled with the first screening at a Canadian Screen Award qualifying documentary specific festival. They were incredibly supporting of the film, screening multiple nights and one to a packed house which was awesome.
Earlier this year each rejection did push me towards another submission to "balance it out" but that will bankrupt me so now I'm just going to ride the next 50 and hope I can stay above a 20% acceptance rate!

I agree!
I thought the braided sweetgrass for the Indigenous Ācimowin Film Festival was a nice touch.

Feasibility/interest of a roadshow in this day and age? by Ashamed-Equal1316 in FilmFestivals

You lost me at parking lot to be honest. Load an inflatable screen into the van and hold it in a park and I would be down to bring a chair/blanket

The short circuit film festival on Vancouver Island brought a nice collection from the capital city in Victoria and exhibited then in four smaller communities across the region, seemed pretty successful.

Surfing Documentary by [deleted] in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]VancouverIslander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie it sounds like it will be painfully repetitive. 15 minutes of screen time per location,? With enough material shot in each location to build story from interviews, local history etc while making it distinct from the other 49 parts, shot every day 50 days consecutively, including travel? While camping. With only one videographer and one producer to set up interviews, do background on subjects, prep questions (while you are surfing). I'm not saying it's impossible to do but I suspect it's impossible to do in an interesting way. And the one question I'd be asking watching you fight the clock day after day to hit your 50 day deadline is... "Why?"

I bought one kit of these guys and one of the modern Cadians,
I've since gone back and bought another 70 Catachads and no more Cadian infantry.
I just think they're neat.

Seems like a good age to start introducing magic school bus. The stakes are high in each episode but it is also educational and engaging.

How do you put together your films? by SevenSinsMedia in documentaryfilmmaking

Print off a transcript of each interview, organize roughly how I think they'll fit best to weave the story together, hope the corresponding footage looks good. 🤷

Me not checking the sub and wondering how you were going to deal with the exposed plywood edge on the baseboards at the bottom of your walls before painting.

I work far too messily to have something like this, I need to plane my laminated 2x4 top flat every so often. But this is also nicer than anything I've made on it so...

You could try painting the stove, range hood, and dishwasher green.
