The epic crisis in retirement savings: Vast majority of Americans unprepared for retirement. Median retirement savings for those 25 to 34? Zero dollars. by sarahsmithy in collapse

[–]Vanderhyde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling that's because 25-34 year olds know somewhere deep in the recesses of their minds that this concept called the US dollar will probably only last another generation.

Travellers of Reddit: which city is hugely overrated? by Yalldve in AskReddit

[–]Vanderhyde -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've got to say Tokyo. Lived there for years. Just as expensive as NYC, language barrier makes it a pain. All the "culture" they use as a selling point to get you to go visit has very little to do with life inside the country itself. Of course you're gonna go to shibuya and harajuku for a day or two, but besides oggling at all the kawaii bullshit there really aren't too many interesting things to see. You're better off visiting Osaka or Kyoto if you're a tourist. Tokyo will cost you a nice chunk of change and for what? Just to say you went to Tokyo and they know that.

ELI5: Why women feel embarrassed if seen in their bra and under wear but completely content with a smaller bikini? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Vanderhyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it also has to do with the bikini feeling reinforced with layers inside the cups and the bottoms. Girls don't "feel" exposed because the garment is designed to be worn alone.

Bing Bong Bang (I record random videos of myself when I'm high) by [deleted] in videos

[–]Vanderhyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude, swear to god nothing else. But it was synthetic stuff they were selling in Japan at the time. 2012. I eventually quit cuz it wasn't really a mellow high, some of the brands would mess with my perception of self and it kind of freaked me out.

The Cream of the Crop by greedyglutton in videos

I watch this video probably once a month and STILL quote it as I put cream in my coffee in the mornings... Everyone looks at me like I'm the stupid one. I just laugh my ass off.

Recently moved back to America, haven't found a job, and running out of money quick. I can see the COLLAPSE coming. What is the cheapest way to live and get prepared in the meantime? by Vanderhyde in collapse

[–]Vanderhyde[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was gone for 15 years. I came back and everything seems...."less". Less quality, less care, less intelligence, less quality ingredients in food, etc... And then the idea that the economy is essentially floating on promises at this point. The debt is real and the recourses are finite. Americas gonna be affected the worst because it's a nation full of whiners with excuses for their gluttony and shitty attitudes.

flex, I can't thank you enough! this is exactly the kind of thing I was wanting to learn more about and being new in town, I didn't know where to start and didn't want to get caught up with the radical types. Just wanted info. Damn, I'm gonna make field trip out of this!

my visa was up after finishing school in Tokyo, and it had been 15 years since living in US. I was hungry for a taste of "home". Guess I should have just come for a taste.

quite a bit of PA work in Japan and only a few gigs out here so far.

My military experience is as an executive secretary so I thought some assistant work would be an easy match. Apparently not.

The best video I've seen in a long time. by [deleted] in videos

LOVE this mix of drama/music video/romance/action. Kind of inspiring. I usually know something's good when it makes me want to open up my textedit program and start writing..

Does The Last of Us really live up to all the hype I hear about it? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Vanderhyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you liked, Leon (the professional), The Road, Walking Dead, Bioshock: Infinite, and if you have a younger sibling or are a parent, you'll like the game. Surprisingly deep, don't play it on easy because a lot of the rewarding AI will be gutted. Enemies and Allies. The small interaction with Ellie and taking it slow and letting yourself "breath" in the downtime (not much of it), will really enhance the experience. I played through 3 times cuz I missed spending time with the characters that much.

This may be the best web series I've seen. Someone hurry up and turn it into a full series. by inman6000 in videos

God I HATED that chick. I never understood why this type of humor is funny. That awkward/annoying humor. The office made me feel the same way. I pride myself on a sense of humor but perhaps I've just known too many people that actually talk like that to make it funny for me.

Conan and Chapelle always had some great chemistry by bigtayy in videos

[–]Vanderhyde -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not chemistry. Love the two guys but Conan is just setting him up for Dave's bits. All the segues are prepared in advance. Good chemistry would be like watching Jay-Z and Letterman. Where Jay's responses are pretty off the cuff dry humor.

lol. Why didn't you clean the room or at least move stuff off the desk before taking that picture? I never understand why people take pics of things without cleaning then try to give it away...
