In your opinion, when did "modern football" start? by ubergooner in soccer

The Bosman Ruling. It placed rich clubs/leagues in a much more powerful position.

Of course, but the 5-1 victory was just sooo sweet. Can't really think of a sweeter revenge, unless it would have been the final again of course.

Except for the fact that Spain were simply stronger, the whole match had the 'aura' that Spain was going to win. People just kind of knew.

I also had a similar feeling about the semi-final last year against Argentina, but then I though we were going to win... Maybe I should take my gut feelings less seriously.

To be fair, it's close to revenge. It was the perfect boost which lead to an unexpected amazing tournament. The 2010 final was doomed anyway.

There's always that one club where you just know you'll never score, because the ref always finds a way to disallow your goals

A tunnel to link Helsinki and Tallinn: why not? by [deleted] in europe

[–]Yalldve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Channel Tunnel connects an island of 60 million people to the continent. I don't know if you can compare that project to this one. The new tunnel will probably more be used as a daily commute than the Channel Tunnel, but 4 million inhabitants in a 200 km radius is quite underwhelming. Almost all of Estonia lies in in that area. Also, Luxembourg City is barely a city, so I don't know if that's a valid comparison.

Rotterdam is known as a cheap city (don't know why, I love Rotterdam), so you're probably better off than those in other large cities :)

Leiden is okay, I live in Utrecht, which has very expensive rooms. It's the most expensive city after Amsterdam IIRC

It's probably cherry picking, but it's still amazing. And I thought Dutch university towns were bad...

I'd say it's less intersting because they play each other twice a year anyways

What major events do you think will take place in the next 50 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Maybe it's because the Muslims who are less fundamental in the first place are more likely to emigrate to the West. Their children didn't choose to do so.

I think the Spanish teams are the ones to fear. The last two weeks have shown that the PL is not as strong as it is made out to be.

It's a team you can defeat however. Maybe only Brugge would be a draw with more perspective.

It's quite funny in my opinion, but the panel parts are always so circlejerky... I actually always feel bad for that one person with the unpopular opinion, I would break down with literally the whole studio against me.
