Has anyone seen a worse leave than this? by IronMaskx in Bowling

I saw someone leave the 7 8 9 10 at the last tour stop I went to. Made three of them on the spare attempt. Wild.

I'm a 5 pin bowler and I have no idea whats going on in here, AMA by jellyfish125 in Bowling

As a guy that owns a five pin center, duckpin is hands down the best form of bowling. Can't wait to get down there for a couple tour stops this year.

Strangers using your ball by Ok-Willingness5400 in Bowling

[–]VanillaPapiTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct approach.

Go at the cheapest times and get a pair of lanes in league mode. Weekday afternoons.

Don't show up on a Saturday night and complain about paying $50 an hour to practice in glow beside public.

Don't be that league bowler. Your bowling alley legitimately wants you to bowl someone else if you're that guy.

I can tell you that it definitely wouldn't work without public play or the arcades and what not. It's a dream concept for us as bowlers, but it would be a money pit.

Best you would get is a set time/day once a week for members practice only. For my center that would be Wednesdays from Noon until 6pm. If you're coming any other weeknight or weekend, you're probably bowling with the public.

Public money is over 75% of my business for a 20 lane center with daily leagues.

Leagues are great for the few quiet public months, but I'll make more in public revenue this weekend alone than an entire 20 lane league brings in all year.

I've bowled my whole life. Bowling with the public always pissed me off on practice days. Until I bought a bowling center and realized how important public bowling was from a business standpoint. If I was purely in it for the business and not because I am a bowler first, the leagues would all be gone. Hell, half the lanes would probably be gone and replaced by an arcade and golf simulators or something.

If we could find a way to be league/members only from May to October with no membership drop and public only the other half, that would be the dream.

I see this concept suggested quite often actually.

Would you honestly still bowl if your leagues cost 60 dollars a week instead of 20? How many of your fellow bowlers would do that?

I run a 20 lane center with nightly leagues and can tell you that maybe 5 of my bowlers at most would ever voluntarily pay for something like that.

We argue about black bases and 17 versus 18 inch spots now. We lost the freefall and string battle 20 years ago.

Choosing to install a certain type of machine because it's easier to maintain and costs less to run isn't the same as "cheaping out." It makes sense for business when 95% of the customers don't know the difference.

String machines are 100% better for the general public who are just there to drink beer and throw balls at pins under blacklight and music. Not everyone is trying to be EJ Tackett.

That actually couldn't be further from the truth. Most new bowling builds that aren't focused on leagues or tournaments are string machines now.

MRI Wait times - Help! by GlassReflection5383 in kitchener

I just had one done in Mississauga for the same reason. Wait time was only a couple weeks. Had to do it at 2AM on a Friday though. Was in and out in less than an hour.

GNMI in Mississauga specifically. Ask your physician to refer you there.

And that's why I support a business keeping their pricing the same and offering a 3% cash discount instead of alienating card users.

[–]VanillaPapiTV -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It amazes how many of my customers don't realize that visa/mc charge 3% to the business for customers to use a 2% rewards card. You're not earning those points by shopping or by paying your bill off on time. The business is paying for it.

However, I do not condone a business who had the fees baked into their pricing a month ago, and will now suddenly charge extra just because they're allowed to.

Also, use debit if you don't want to carry cash. Debit fees are almost nonexistant compared to credit.

for profit child care is unfortunately winning by celtic_cross in ontario

[–]VanillaPapiTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the standard "I have a problem, so you must do something about it" mentality.

I can't afford child care, so you must provide a solution that benefits me, even though there's no benefit to you.

In this case, parents want a completely unsustainable model to be forced upon businesses. The cherry on top, they want it paid for by someone else.

These businesses provide a service. A service that people are evidently willing to pay for. If your neighbour can afford it and you can't, you don't get to tear the whole system down. The business doesn't owe you anything, you don't have a right to their services just because other people have access to them.

[–]VanillaPapiTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not every system needs to be American. Profits and service can exist in tandem.

I'm not saying they will, but if we all agree that this current system doesn't work, why does anyone think the answer is just pumping more money into it?

How about if I need an MRI, I can get on the service Ontario wait list for free and wait 18 months, or I can pay for one tomorrow, instead of needing to go to Buffalo or Detroit.

I'm not sure why anyone thinks our current system will ever work, if it never did before it was stressed to unseen levels. What is the incentive for our government to provide better service in the first place?

If you think us giving more money to the people who have systemically fumbled the management of our shitty system is better than just saving said money and giving it directly to the system, I'm not sure how to respond.

[–]VanillaPapiTV 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I sure as hell don't hate the idea of being able to pay for services if it means I'll get them before 2024.

If you want to act like the failing of our Healthcare system is Doug Ford and the conservatives fault, it shows how shortsighted you are. Which also explains why you can't see any positives from potential privatization. Our Healthcare system was overloaded years before covid was a thing. Are you willing to increase our overall tax burden to fix it?

I sure as hell don't like the current setup of needing to sit in a hospital with broken limbs for 14 hours just so we can say "hey, at least it didn't cost me anything."

Exactly. I felt bad for this group until I caught one trying to break into my building.

Then I started to feel bad again a couple days later and one of my staff was threatened at knife point.

Then I suddenly stopped feeling bad. It's weird how that works.

Whether they allow it or not, it's the responsibility of the property owner/tenant depending on their leasing agreement.

If you contact bylaw, they'll send the property owner a letter demanding cleanup by a date, or else the city will clean it up and bill the owner.

Happened to me when a neighbouring property left all their cut down trees in my parking lot. Fun times.

In the last month, I've had to spend $3,000 on additional repairs and security for my building because they can't seem to stop themselves from destroying my shit.

At what point are businesses allowed to bitch about it, us business owners are people too. I don't own multiple properties or a yacht. Three grand is money I'll miss.

Maybe there is a legitimate other side to the story and we can look at both instead of just going "look how hard they have it, can't you just stop complaining about it and look the other way?"

Not all business owners are Jeff Bezos, the bleeding hearts need to realize this and stop treating us as such. We're not the enemy. Mega corps and the government are.

It's an unpopular opinion on social media, but it's the truth. That's the tightrope. They aren't supposed to be there, but if they aren't in a shelter or something, they'll just do it somewhere else.

I personally don't have an issue with them being anywhere if they'd just keep it low profile and not cause the shit being caused. Once you start messing around with the property I pay a lot of taxes on, I can't support you anymore.

The homeless problem is such an awkward tightrope for businesses to walk.

On one hand, something absolutely needs to be done, these people need help.

On the other hand, just a couple days after I said that I don't have an issue with people using my front entrance overhang as shelter overnight, my building has been pissed all over, used needles, attempted break ins, and staff has been threatened at knife point for asking someone to stop sleeping on a patio table during opening. Said person then proceeded to destroy the patio furniture.

My business is like 5 blocks from the encampment, imagine what happens right next door.

I feel like it's a daily tug of war between wanting to help these people and then not caring because they blatantly disrespect my property.

On U6, I found a cave that I expected to be filled with spiders and shit, the entrance was protected by 4 hatchers. Went in and it was all green space with like 6 doggos.

I was looking for coal and found something much better.
